@@andrewkear5639 My interpretation of it is that you considered the person you know as a friend, that you would do anything for them. But you realized too late that they never considered YOU as their friend. So in the end, that person is the friend you never had.

@@aldancyrcayetano1564 I interpret it the same way and it is really my life story. I so much cared for somebody, not like I needed them, but like I so much felt close to them, and felt a deep warmth when I was around them - but I never told them. That's it, I just wished them well and respected more than anything, they meant the world to me - to find out that that person actually would have been glad if failed and had some prejudices about me that I couldn't see nor understand at the time. That broke me to pieces - three years passed after we saw each other the last time and they still don't know what happened inside me - and huge things happened.
I know that what I've written sounds strange taken alone, without the whole story, but it's like this song is written about it. Maybe I also feel the song deeply cause I was born just a day later than Finneas, so maybe we're somehow alike emotionally, sometimes it feels I hear myself.
I think this year I will tell that person what they meant for me - but surely without emotion, cause after things get ugly, you feel nothing anymore. Then get strong af

i think about that lyric often. i’m generally a very realistic, practical person. i wouldn’t say i’m an optimist but i just see things as they are. while falling into a place of overwhelming sadness, i have the ability to assure myself that its “just the moment”. but even so, it’s such a melancholy, lonely, and hopeless sensation.
such a simple lyric that embodies a complex feeling so perfectly. finneas is pure genius.

My best friend killed himself last summer, we knew each other since we were 6 (now im 17), he had so much problems, but i was always there for him, my only friend, now i'm alone, i have no one to hang with or even have a laugh. This song makes me think a lot about him, and i cried very hard the first time i heard it.

Oh, dear. I lost my friend bc of the disease (we knew each other since 8 yo, she passed away at 23, 5 years ago) and I lost another friend the way it's spoken in this song - betrayal and etc. And you know what? After these years I feel like I didn't really lose anyone. Like, the girl who betrayed me never was my friend for real and this girl who is not with me right now - she is still my friend. We have our memories, I still have all her lights she gave me so I don't feel like she left me or whatever. It's like long distance relationship and we will meet again sooner or later.
I love Billie. If someone gave me the chance to choose to meet either her or him though.. I would meet him over everything without thinking twice. he is just so. inspirational. artist. unbeatable singer. therapist. friend. hero.

I just lost a friend, she was like my sister i loved her very much. It had been 6 years since i met her at med school yet she lost contact with me a year ago. It was really sad to know that she was gone far away but then she came back a month ago. I called her but she replied with a message and we went everywhere she wanted. I was so happy at that moment until i told her that i was gonna continue my studies abroad and she told me to stay. I was so enlightened, but then she told me that she was gonna get married to another man. I didn't know him until she told me that it was one of my colleges at med school.
