Quick update. As per the previous version, this will ONLY work with Raw files. Adobe have not yet supported jpeg, tif, etc. ALSO, the Denoise function has issues with compressed or “small” Raw files. I believe it only works of FULL Raw files. I’ll test this out and do a follow up video.
I tested this feature out on a raw file that was enhanced using super rez. However the settings are coming up saying the DNG format is not compatible with the denoise AI.
@@jackprice7828 Ok, thank you. The denoise will only work on an original Raw file. Unfortunately you can’t apply both to the same file. There is work around I use. Denoise first, save as a tif, then apply the Super Res to the tif. I haven’t tried this with the new version, but will have a crack soon 👌🏼
Outstanding update to cover. Thank-you for the calm methodical examples. New subscriber looking forward to going through your videos. Mostly an EM1X user for wildlife, and S1R user for everything else, noise is the only issue with these cameras for me at 1600 and above.

Great video, thx! Are you using Camera RAW standalone or inside of Photoshop? Secondly, after restarting PS, does the Denoise function still create a separate DNG file? And third, what is the preferred workflow assuming LRC is your baseline app?
@@1duesy Thank you and good questions. This is all done within Photoshop. I believe at this stage it is a Photoshop only feature. After the restart, a DNG file is NOT created now, it acts as a normal slider that works directly on your RAW file ( which is great ). I do still prefer LRC as my preferred starting point because it’s quick and easy. But, I switch between both quite regularly as LRC does not have everything I require. In the case of high noise images, I will go directly to photoshop as of this update. My biggest issue with the denoise is that every image is adjusted differently. So seeing the denoise in real time is just so much more efficient. Thank you
@@photosonthebay9341 thx for the prompt reply! Currently, I use Topaz Denoise as a plug-in with Lightroom. It does a superb job but unfortunately it generates a separate file in Tiff format resulting in 2X of every photo in my catalog. And edits in Photoshop generates yet another duplicate! Any suggestions to avoid so many duplicate files?
@@1duesy Yeah, Topaz is a good option, but that’s why I like this new photoshop update, it’s doesn’t create a new file, just works on the original. I don’t think there is any way around it until Adobe include it in LRC, which will hopefully happen 🤞🏼
Thanks for sharing this new feature. Step in the right direction. Agree on the super rez function. Would love to see Adobe do a lot more on sharpening. I'm not happy Topaz. You can sometimes get ok results with the old legacy sharpening or smart sharpen. But Adobe could do a lot in that arena.
@@jackprice7828 Thank you and agree 100% with sharpening. Topaz is very hit and miss. I recently printed an image 3200mm x 600mm and plan on doing a video about the upscale process I used. But, I did use Super Resolution and when I tried to recreate the process after the update, the results were worse. Think it’s something I’m still playing with
Great video, but my upgraded 2025 workspace is different to yours, ie it does not have a 'cog' on the topright hand corner. I needed to use the search to access the deniose function. I am using Mac M2 Sonoma.

The Windows and Mac versions are near identical , so everything should be in the same place. Another option is to access ACR from the preferences menu. On Mac I believe this is when you click on the top left “Adobe photoshop 2025”, in the “File Handling” tab there is a “Camera Raw” option. Good luck and let me know if this helps. 🤞🏼
I have updated PS and LR to the newest, and clicked on the AI square like your video says. Then rebooted and reloaded. But when I load a raw file (.CR3 from Canon), and click on the Filter>camera raw filter, the camera raw program comes up, but under the Detail option on the right side, no "denoise" option is available. It is as it has always been. No denoise at all. What am I doing wrong?
@@gordonelwell7084 I have heard of an issue where small or compressed Raw files do not work. Is your camera set to just RAW? And not compressed Raw? Even though it is a Cr3 file I think only “full” Raw files are compatible. Let me know 🤞🏼
@@photosonthebay9341 Try opening from Lightroom to Photoshop as a Smart object then once in P/S double click the smart object to open Camera RAW. I was having the same problem & this fixed it!
@@photosonthebay9341 I found the problem. I was opening the raw files via Lightroom and then using the Filter>Camera Raw menu selection. I went on a trouble shooting site and the answer was that ACR will function fine when opening the file directly into PS and not with LR. Apparently when opening the file via LR, the lightroom settings go with the file, and only a limited set of ACR features are available (since it is, after all just a filter at that point). When I went to Windows Explorer and opened the file directly into PS, all the new Dehaze features were available just fine. I don't think this limitation is mentioned anywhere, despite (I would guess) about 90% of PS users use LR as their file organization program, and routinely open files in PS via LR.
Does not work using ACR Filter using M2 Silicon. Only way is to use Open as Smart Object in Photoshop so can use native ACR. ACR Filter Plug in is still a vector based editing program.

@@photosonthebay9341 I know this. The difference between ACR Filter and ACR native is what I'm on about. Native ACR operates on a RAW file whereas ACR Filter operates on a ACR Rendered file held in a temporary location. If I open a Raw file directly into Photoshop say from the desktop it opens in ACR: similarly if I Open a Raw file in Photoshop with Edit as Smart Object in Photoshop and then double click the SO it Opens in ACR. However if I open a Raw file from Lightroom or Lightroom Classic as Edit in Photoshop it opens in Photoshop but as a Rendered file which is not the original RAW file. If I then go to ACR Filter the options such as Beta Profile and the new Denoise are not available as the ACR Filter Plugin is still a vector editing based program c.f. native ACR which as a Raw Converter/demosaicer is a pixel based program. I have been on the forums and this view is supported that ACR and ACR Filter are different beasts with totally different MOs.

Theres nothing massive about what Adobe have released this year on all their products at Adobe Max, in fact I`ve seen many other photographers refer to it all in one word, `underwhelming`!
@@stevejarvis186 I tend to agree. Even though Adobe call this their major 2025 update, there is very little that interests me. The majority of the updates are a.i, and I have no interest in that part of photoshop. To be fair, I pretty much only use the tools I’ve been using for the past 10 years. So generally speaking, the past 10 years have been “underwhelming”. But, every small improvement is an improvement.
@@photosonthebay9341 I actually have been using the colorize neural filter in PS a lot! It has been a huge game changer for me, I even used in a recent video!

Thats fine for artists, (although they should be worried) I`m a Photographer and look to make changes to my photos pure and simple, end of!!!!!
Actually, Lightroom had the Denoise feature for a while, and you could also see in real time if you change the amount of denoising. Perhaps it's the other way around. And it is AI driven.
@@julianrozental525 Yes, LRC has the original version of denoise, and has for well over a year. You only get a small “preview” which is pretty useless to be honest. And yes, it uses a.i. to Denoise your images, but it’s a completely different thing to replacing/removing things in low resolution like the other a.i features. I am not seeing this on my system I have the new 2025 version and use Windows
