Exposure Blending Basics
Watch me out in the field and then in the editing studio. I run through a very basic exposure blending technique. Capturing multiple exposures in camera and then blending in photoshop.

Days like this are Rare - EPIC Sunset
Переглядів 19521 день тому
In this video I dust off the old Canon 50D. The plan was to Photograph a Sunset and explain camera settings, composition, and finally edit the photos. Mid way through, the sky exploded, and my plans changed very quickly. This was the most amazing sunset I have photographed and even managed to capture it all in a Timelapse on the GoPro. Is the Canon 50d still good? ABSOLUTELY #canon #sunset #lan...

Neil Can you help? I'm trying to locate the fallen log, with the hand shape pointing up (48.34 on your video). Perhaps because it was high tide, but I couldn't locate it; can you point me in the right direction? I'm hoping to try some shots this coming Friday at sunset. Hope you can advise the location. Mike
@@mikekay6288 It’s on the beach near Eli Creek. Look for the Yellow Yacht and head south along the beach
Thanks, Neil; the shots were great and your informative style were ideal. Can't wait to get to Point Vernon and have a go with my new camera(Lumix G9ii). The one of many values with living in Hervey Bay. Looking forward to future posts. Mike in Oz
@@mikekay6288 Thank you very much. Point Vernon is amazing, hopefully we’ll see each other out and about soon 🤞🏼
When doing panorama, what aspect do you use(4/3 or 16/9) in portrait mode? Enjoying watching a photographer in action. Thanks Neil. Mike
@@mikekay6288 Thank you. I use 4/3, in portrait mode. I’ll do more in depth video on Panorama photos soon. 👌🏼
Nice tutorial, thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience.
@@peterhamilton8913 Thank you very much Peter ❤️
Thanks Neil, this is an area that I haven't really played with to date. Appreciate the explanation and demo.
@@UpandAboutPhotography-2025 Thank you and no problem. Looking forward to catching up. You’ll love Hervey Bay 😀
Excellent video. This tip is great. I saw it on one of you vids. Doing that creates a luminosity mask correct?
@@teagaphoto Thank you and yes. It creates a luminosity mask without the need for additional plug ins.
@photosonthebay9341 Awesome thanks!
@ Thank you and my pleasure 😀
Excellent video giving useful information on location, then following with post in Lightroom and Photoshop. Looking forward to further posts on UA-cam. Thank you, Neil. Mike in Oz
@@mikekay6288 Thank you very much Mike. Welcome and really appreciate the feedback ❤️
Great! Love your presentation!
@@ashokan134 Thank you very much. ❤️
I am 84 years old and have health issues. I can't stand for very long or walk very far. Solution is to shoot everything from my van. I have a geared head that attached firmly to my window which I use for long exposures and panoramas. My main subject is panorama sunrises. I encounter the bowl horizon daily. I had never considered straightening each individual and then to Photoshop and it looks like a good solution. I use Puppet Warp but I think you are using it better. I will give your method a try. Your sunrise is very beautiful, well done.
@@leuallen3000 Thank you. Great to hear you still enjoy your photography. Panorama photography is a great way of capturing those beautiful sunrises. Definitely try straightening all the images and then taking them into Photoshop. It does make life a little easier. Thank you again. Very much appreciated ❤️
Great transition 👌
@@titobobby5511 Thank you. Was fun putting it together 😀
What a photo! thank you for this information. I never heard of or noticed the puppet warp tool. I have been using the ruler and drag technique.
Thank you. Glad you are enjoying the content. The Puppet Warp tool is a life saver 😀
Nicely explained, thank you. One thing I don't seem to find now is I can't zoom in tightly to see specific sections of my raw photo after I used Denoise.
@@painterj6289 Thank you. Interesting point. I know there has been a few more updates since this video. I’ll have a look, it could be a bug.
Thanks
@@LyndaRossi Thank you. I’ll have to take you here. It’s amazing ❤️

@ Thank you. I appreciate the feedback ❤️
Thank you very much! Always good to learn something to streamline and improve the work flow, I’ve spent a lot of time on this issue with other PS tools and this seems the best approach by a long shot

Do we have to use phot shop to blend
@@Jwitherow1964 You can use the HDR function in Lightroom to blend 2-5 photos, as long as the images are aligned pretty closely. If you’re looking at blend in two different images, only Photoshop can do that.
@@photosonthebay9341 ok thank you ate amazing
I wish you would just show how to merge photos, instead of explaining why we want to, I still don’t don’t how to merge photo. After watching. I know why I want to know how to. Please don’t take this wrong. Thanks for trying, it’s probably me. I think most people take for granted that we know the basic of light room, everything is so hard to understand
@@Jwitherow1964 Thank you for asking and totally understand what you are saying. I have another video on merging photos in Lightroom. Give this one a try and maybe skip the intro. Thank you 👌🏼 ua-cam.com/video/iCxeIUOANqI/v-deo.htmlsi=zHO5YYJqscuTFpNB

Hi. Hope you have success.
@@PamTincknell Thank you Pam. Not the night I was hoping for. But was nice to be out.
You can sent your raw image from LR to photoshop as a smart object. Then you can use PS ACR on the file.
@@ronceton8363 Yes, that is true.
Honestly I’ve been doing bracketed photo’s because it’s set & forget, (the lazy way) but thinking about the camera life it really does make sense. Thanks
@@LyndaRossi Thank you for the comment. Nothing “Lazy” about it. Many professional Landscape photographers still use bracketing ( but they can also afford a new camera every few years ) It is a very good option, it’s just not “necessary” all the time. This was more of a test for myself to see if I should be doing it more often 😂
Also, I didn’t mention your shutter life. 10,000 photos = 30,000 shutter accusations. That’s a quick way to wear out a camera.
Great tip, thank you
Sorry about the Audio. Sounds like my Mic was not working. Hopefully the next stream will work better. 🤞🏼

Thank you, definitely something worth trying with the right image. Works really well with Seascapes.

Im pretty sure all the adjustments made in Photoshop can be done in the new versions of Lightroom with their masking tools.
@@philadler9171 I think you are right. I know Lightroom keeps updating pretty regularly. This was more designed for people who only use Photoshop over LRC. And for those who are just getting started in Photoshop 👌🏼
Yes, I think you are right. LRC has come a long way and has some nice masking options now.
Another excellent video mate, makes me think i need to go back over my photos and get editing 👍
