Thanks for this video. Just got my first pup and will use your techniques in preparing for hunting.
Great to hear, hope what I'm sharing is helpful and you have a great time starting your pup!
I sure can see how she gets distracted with that many squirrels. That one went up a tree lets go get the next one...
I like to live trap squirrel then take the trap and pup and let the pup work the squirrel for a bit then turn the squirrel out and let the pup tree it. I also make squirrel feeders so I know the pup can find them easy. I'd like to have Maggie!! Lol
I've considered trying the live trap to get her really into squirrels but I'm still on the fence. I may try that soon if she still isn't treeing. I've got feeders in the backyard but not as many squirrels as I'd like.
I think I'd love having a squirrel dog.......but what is it like at home? What is having a squirrel dog as a "pet" like? I would only be able to go out on the weekends or some weekday mornings
I've got two. Max is high energy and needs exercise and stimulation, he can be a handful when we don't go out as much. Maggy is much more even-keeled and loves to just sleep on the couch when we are relaxing. For my situation, they are both great house dogs and very affectionate to my family. I don't have a ton of squirrels running around my backyard, but if I did I could imagine it being both a blessing and a curse. I also only go out on weekends and some off work hours but make sure they get daily exercise and play to help drain some energy. It all really depends on the dog you get, because both my dogs seem to be complete opposites yet they are squirrel dogs.
@@MountainFeisty..... You can definitely tell the difference between the two of them. I would basically only be able to take a dog into the woods on the weekends also. Something to consider and start learning more about.
