  • As a DJ, it's important to keep your music organized so that you can access the best tracks when you need them. To help me do this, I have an annual process to clean-up tracks that I never use or have no use for. This not only purges / deletes un-needed clutter from my library, but also helps me re-familiarize with my library. I typically identify opportunities to play certain tracks more or think about new crates I need to make (I do this live in the video actually!)

Tags + auto playlists are great tools that all (digital) djs should use. And they also exist in traktor ;)

Many great tips to clean out your library. I ask myself the same questions you do when doing some housekeeping lol appreciate this video and process.

This just helped me out a ton. I've had Rekordbox 2 years and poor file management has caused quite the clutter on my mac. I'm gonna try to re-organize everything and do something with all these duplicates. Thanks for sharing knowledge bro. Subscribed. Stay cool👊🏻

A lot easier to get rid of music these days with streaming options

True it can be a good backup. Don’t think that streaming is a good primary solution yet tho

I prefer to own my music, and sometimes you may be DJing without a solid web connection. A usb drive with a few backups just incase is my preference. However I can see the potential use for streaming in certain scenarios such as taking a request at a wedding when you don't have a copy of the track. Just my opinion, don't want any smoke👊🏻

Very interesting and informative as always Kevin. Seasons Greetings to you and Best wishes for 2022.
How long do you leave it before you move playlists/crates into your Archive folder and do you always keep the playlists from all your events?
With the song Hey Ya! how do you manage mixing in and out with it having an unusual beat. Is there particular tracks you tend to mix it with?

Appreciate that Craig! Happy holidays to you also!!
After an event I love the event crate into my archive for later reference. Right now I keep event crates and histories for ever - but I need to come up with a purge system because my rekordbox music library database file is getting big - over 2GB at this point.
Good question about Hey Ya- it’s almost 160 BPM. There are some great high BPM jams to mix with it that I’d use for a hype crowd - Mr Brightside, All the small things, Mickey (Toni Basil), Can’t Hold Us, Everytime we Touch, Sk8er Boi, Can’t Hold Us is in key as well I believe.
OR you could half the BPM and I might mix in Game Over, Bottoms Up, Shake it Off, Bye Bye Bye… endless great opportunities!
