I purchased this from eBay, had channel mods, worked OK, I just had to restore it to factory condition.
The radio had pin 10 tied to the Fin pin through a switch to give it the +128 channels, so I decided to investigate this modification and try to understand why it works, and also clear up why there are various versions of this modification which all work, just in different ways.

I used to clean RC car tires with furniture polish. Just spray it on, let it dry and just fall off. It might work for mic cords.

When powering up, do you limit the current from the psu before you switch your radios on?
No, any device should manage its own power inrush, the power supply shouldn’t limit it.
if it was me, restore radio to factory, install Mark's rotary encoder system :-)
