My Cousin past away last week. He was a country & western singer. But he did songs from way back from even his fathers time. But the only song I ever heard him sing that wasn't country was this. And I had never heard it before but of course I loved it.
I was born in '63....three years old when ELUSIVE BUTTERFLY came out....vaguely recalled it when I first heard Aretha Franklin's version of it (from 1969) about 3-4 years ago. Back then, "pop music" included such a wide range of music...even instrumental..and some spoken word!
Bit saddened to just be hearing of his, Bob Lind passing here. He is a Great musician. “Elusive Butterfly has always been well among my very favorite tunes, that I have Ever heard. Must be very proud to be a cousin of his too. Late regards.✌️😎
I had the pleasure of watching Bob Lind perform at the Glendale Icehouse back in 1967. In the audience was Neil Young. He was invited on stage and the two performed a song . What an evening.
I am 67 years old and Elusive Butterfly has always been my favorite song. Blessings to Bob Lind for giving me such joy from this incredible song. I have always wanted to meet him.
Odd how a song comes to mind after 50 years and not hearing it. I was thinking about my sweetheart whom I lost in June and this song came to mind. Not that it had an special memory but, what the song did, was remind me of love lost and any thoughts of sharing such deep love again will forever remain elusive . God Bless
Back in the days before internet, and long after Bob Lind's initial popularity had faded, I hand wrote him a letter to express my appreciation for those first four album releases of his in the 60's that meant so much to me. I received back a handwritten letter, which I still have somewhere, in which he thanked me for my response to his music but in which he said that he was so much prouder of the music he was writing at that time for the likes of Richie Haven, and that the music he wrote in the 60's didn't mean as much to him anymore. That disappointed me so much to learn that it meant more to me than it did to him! But it didn't change my attitude toward that wonderful poetry and beautiful arrangements on those 60's albums. In fact, I still play them to this day, and they still mean as much to me as ever.
Thank you, I have listened to this on AM Radio.....it was all we had back in the 60's. Bob Lind is a Brilliant Song Writer .... I always remember this song when I feel I need comforting... Thank you,, Mr. Bob Lind . For you are beautiful! ♥️🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🇬🇧
Thanks to Amazon Music that bought lots of past music so beautiful that I had never heard of even though it was in my time. This is one of the best and I listened to it every morning. Never my love was my second most favorite.
Wow! How special! Butterfly was sheer 60's poetry! Didn't know his writing was so prolific. Wikipedia: Robert Neale Lind (born November 25, 1942) is an American folk-music singer-lyricist, who helped define the 1960s folk rock movement in the U.S. and UK.[1] Lind is well known for his transatlantic hit record, "Elusive Butterfly",[2] which reached number 5 on both the US and UK charts in 1966. Many musicians have recorded songs by Lind, who continues to write, record and perform.
What a beautiful song. I played it the other day not knowing what it was - until i heard it! Im 58 and live in England and definitely remember hearing this as a kid but not heard it since. Cant stop playing it and could also imagine Glen Campbell covering it.
I have tears in my eyes, watching Bob and his Butterfly. A video to be treasured. Your butterfly has stopped the time back to that magic moment in 1966, end of summer. Be sure, your butterfly will always be flying...
Wow! I have been wanting to sing Bob Lind's 'Butterfly of Love' for a long time at karaoke. I have always loved that song since my High School Days. I'm not a professional singer but, hey, nobody's on a label at karaoke, and nobody paid to get in. 😄 Bob you are a GREAT person, entertainer, and professional!!!
I worked at the Analyst in 1965....Al Chapman was a great boss!....I remember Bob singing heart fully on the small stage...WONDERFUL times and thanks for the memories!
It sounds trite as hell but Bob Lind's music changed my life. Bought all four albums in the mid to late '60s and played them all to death. Still listening to the music from those albums today. I didn't know any other Bob Lind fans so it was just me and him over and over and over again.
@@danring1340 I love his poetry. Always thought it was more brilliant than Dylan's even. So sorry more people didn't come to appreciate him beyond "Elusive Butterfly."
BOB LIND STILL GREAT AFTER ALL THESE YEARS ... I AM 67 YEARS OLD AND BOB LIND WAS AND STILL IS A TRULY GREAT SINGER-SONGWRITER-PERSON !!!!! Roger C. San Diego 06-04-2017
So many of Bob's recent compositions bring his thousands of fans a valuable insight into the life and emotions of this great performer and even greater wordsmith. Get listening to 'Magellan Was Wrong' and 'Finding You Again'.
When I heard this I was just a toddler, but it stuck in my mind as one of the most beautiful songs I’d ever heard, of course I hadn’t heard many songs yet, but I clearly remember the sun shining through the window 🪟 just with butterflies flying just as I had heard it. So awesome to find this beautiful watercolor of a song. Thank you for writing singing and making it so memorable .✨
Back in the sixties, I fancied myself as a budding lyric writer. That is, before I heard "Mr Zero" by Bob and realised that this what I was aiming for but could never achieve. I haven't written any lyrics since.
Yeah, that song had a special meaning for me as well. Love it to this day. And, like you, it convinced me that no one could write lyrics like Bob Lind did.
Fantastic song, just the other day I made out 16 songs for yet another playlist and Butterfly of Love was an automatic. But it's the lyrics I would like to know about as they are so good, so deep so strong so intimate... just a few years ago my fellow Irish man Val Doonican who had a big hit with Elusive Butterfly back in 1966, that's the version I love, died 2015 aged 88. It reached no. 3 in Ireland. If you asked me do I think it's fair that Val made a bundle out of the Elusive Butterfly, I would say 'No' I don't but I don't make those crazy non existent rules. In fact I have just learned that Val's hit here was before Bob's in '66.

Thank you Bob Lind … Elusive Butterfly represents so much to a certain generation in particular. It will stay with me all the days of my life. 🦋

I was in grade school, I would say this song is one of my top 10-best, so powerful song to many people.
Elusive Butterfly by Bob Lind is the most beautiful song I have ever heard. It is so haunting.
oh I agree 100% with you!!
I agree with you, but he did many other beautiful and haunting songs on the same album, and on the one that followed.

Riding in the back seat with a young marine heading to Vietnam was the first time I heard this song. And , yes, he returned home.

Check out the cover of his album, "Don't Be Concerned," or check out a live performance of the song in 1966 on youtube.
A song that spurned my own singer-songwriter era that began in 1970.
