- I held the Worlds Fastest Front Wheel Drive Tamiya speed record for quite some time, and it's been beaten a few times now. The was with an FF01, so now it's time to get that record back! Part 1 of the Fastest Fwd Tamiya on the planet. This time with an FF03!

Finally, some tamiya appreciation on a RC channel that isn't tamiya dedicated 👍 Looking forward to seeing this build as I'm considering getting a ff03 myself
Pretty sure even stock that Tamiya is faster than the D15 Civic sitting on my driveway :'D
😅
😂 💀 A.F
for giggles, try two 100 mm EDF units inline to stuff the intake,
might give you 4 lbs of zero lag boost, that wont upset the ECU.
rough potential of 30% more power at whim for under 200 bucks?
b18 swap it. i blew the d16 in my 2000 ej and slapped a b18b and 5 speed out of my buddies wrecked 94 dc4.
@@modelnutty6503 sounds legit 🤣
One of the best UA-camrs. Can review ANYTHING and it doesn't Matter if it's a bad car or not ITS ALWAYS A GOOD VIDEO 👍 GOOD JOB...
Appreciate the kind words Zerrick. 😎🤟
@@TomleyRC Know problem
Hi Phil! Great stuff mate, this is going to be an interesting project! I have the FF03 Civic, the kit came with the turnbuckles, full ball bearings and oil shocks. The Diff is also a ball diff but it has plastic outdrives!!! If yours has them you may need to swap them with metal ones for all the extra power you are gonna install! Go for it dude - 90mph here we come! 😁👊👍
Oh… sounds good! I’ve got some Yeah Racing shocks for it.. and just between me n you…. I may have bought a NIB FF03 Civic as I think most of the screw holes on this are chewed up.
@@TomleyRC Nice! I love the Civic body, looks cool in boxart. I added a little toe-in on the front of mine (the rears already have toe-in as standard) and that calmed the twitchiness down nicely. The Yeah Racing shocks are a great upgrade too. I'm already looking forward to the next episode to see what you come up with. 👍
PS congrats on 80K!!!!
Thanks Mark. I am looking forward to having a go at the record… it’ll be nice to build the chassis up from new, rather than getting frustrated with damaged threads and possible broken parts.
Please keep this one going!!! Great vid as always!!
Man, I used to have one of those EG hatchbacks with a motor swap back in the day. Sure brings back some street racing memories! Thanks for the awesome video, mate!
Yes, they were pretty popular! K20 swap was the one
Congratulations on everyone over 50mph 🏆👌🛩
my FF03 goes straight like a rocket on the track .. like you said check out the front assemby cause the rubbing in the steering and the steering angles don'T seem right. Great project :) nearly makes me regret that i'm going to sell my FF03
Yes, I need to make sure it’s dialled in
That was a nice one to watch, I've never really given front wheel drive much thought. It looks like a nice little chassis for it, very compact and tight! I'll definitely be looking forward to seeing more of this! Would be cool if you actually get that record and put on video for us!
Cheers dude
Great project! Definitely a step up from the entry level Tamiya stuff with the quality of the plastics, standard turnbuckles, cva’s, bearings etc…. I’m in the process of building a 306 Maxi on the FF03 chassis. I’d recommend universal shafts to help increase the usable steering angle. Makes a big difference. Can’t wait for part 2! 👍
Good shout on the UJ’s 👌
Definitely a cool looking car. Can't wait to see what you do for modifications
Great looking car. Fun project and best of luck with it. Look forward to seeing this develop. 👍🏼
I really love the way that looks! Big Civic fan, I’ve had 4 hatches in my life.
Nice
I love these type of cars and drift cars they look like some realistic cars and the u can really have fun with it u really go way out and make it look so detailed.. great 👍🏽
Awesome channel. I really get the genuine vibe that you are following your passion and not just creating clickbait. Keep it up :-)
I love going Overkill. The quote Jeremy Clarkson speed and power
Yes haha
My FF03 is one of my favorite touring cars. It tracks so straight. Great little cars. I can't wait to see what you do with this one.
Always wanted an FF03
Hey Tomley Dude, What An Awesome Video And Nice Project Haha!!! 😄💙😀💚
Thanks dude
Great... Saw your GT1 so ordered one... Now I want an M-05.... You're channel is costing me loads !!! 🤪🤣🤣🤣🤣
Haha
Interesting project 🤔
looking forward part 2👏👏👏
I love the FWD cars, not had a Tamiya one, but I currently race a 3Racing Mini MG Evo at my local club, and it's pretty good. Can't wait to see how fast this thing goes!! Also, I'd love an FF03, great looking chassis👍👍
Loving this project Phil, I went down the fwd speedrun rabbit hole (tamiya m03 53.4mph on 2s) 3 years ago . Work got in the way but I'm back on it now , longer aero body, flat under tray (essential!) and foam tyres (also essential!) . Looking forward to part 2 .
Yes, it goers addictive! Foam tyres are certainly a must!
Three years ago I built my ff03 into a 1100 gram monster for usgt use.
My only real trouble with it, was by getting the weight so low, the cg ended up pretty high.
It was a solid car.
My desire for low weight sent me to build the same thing, but in a mst tcr chassis. Total weight.. around 900g.
Nice!
I am reviving my little FF03 Civic at the moment too!, can't wait to see your next videos on tips to make my little beats better.
Yup Yup Yup. Got a few to tighten up..Speed time Hello From V&b speed a rc community 👍
As a Honda guy, I love it
It will be amazing to see this ricer do 80mph. This is something I definitely have got to see. 🔥👍✌️
"So fast I lost my scuttle panel".... a highly underused euphemism....
😅
This is definitely interesting ☺️ I wasn't aware of fwd rc cars. Reminds me of the F&F craze back in the day. 👍
They are certainly a little different to drive
Love it.
As a 90’s boy racer this is up my street
I now know what a scuttle panel is. Learning With Tomley.
Haha
WHAT ARE THOSE WHEELS!!! those look like some really rare Hayashi Sakura Cherry Blossom
Wheels
Yes, they look like Cherry Blossom ones
When I seen this thumbnail I was hoping so much it was front wheel drive 👌
For increased rear end stability you’ll need to run some toe in
Thats a definite shelf queen.
Oohhhh I’m looking forward to this 😍
Loving the K20 heat shield, Good Luck for the JDM Type R missile!
Looking forward to viewing the next part as I'm thinking about tinkering with my Tamiya NSU TT on a m-05 chassis and I'm sure you'll give me a few options to think about. 👍
Poor Mini 😢
Very cool. I had no idea that they made front wheel drive RC's. Servo on the side wow... Good job getting it up and running. You seem to be able to fix anything.
I can't wait to see this build
That civic looks just like my 93 si lol same color I had polished rims also took me back to when I was 18 I need to build one ty for the inspiration
Also put the rear shocks in the upright position to do a speed run and to get rid of the twitch toe the front tires out.
Cool! I love a Tamiya, AND I love a project! Woo hoo!
you deserve more subscribers man!!
Cheers dude
Gear diff is the way to go...
Here’s someone who’s got experience… I’m coming for you 😅
@@TomleyRC Looking forward to seeing it bud👍
I love making Tamiya’s go fast especially Lunchboxes
Love the Ff03, Try and get a oil filled gear diff and geBox casing, the ball diff doesn't like alot of power
Good to know 🤟
awesome! looking forward too the next episode
Pretty nice work , Tomley! Really beautiful car! 😃
Looking forward to see what you do with it!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Thank you
I still have my FF01 with Clio Williams shell. It ran a 17t triple and whatever the biggest pinion i could fit on it. It went through tyres pretty quick 😩😄
this is gonna be great
Hopefully 🙏
cool looking rc and nic run, have a great weekend brother
Cheers mate. You too
@@TomleyRC thank you😁👍
I follow the Boosted Boiz and PFI speed they have some very quick 1:1 scale front wheel drive drag cars.
Cant wait to see what you achieve with this.
Boosted Boiz make some crazy vehicles!
@@TomleyRC world's fastest MR2, the Odessy is awesome too
Love them civics definitely the best one they done other than the Jordans one my m8s used to have a full scale one 😉 but was an animal of a car anyway looking forward to see what you do with it great video and car 👌👍
The Jordan was a bit weird when they first came out… but ended up being a bit of a collectors item!
Nice 😊👍🏻
Awesome car, awesome project!
That civic is cool, I like the ef's better but I'm biased to em 🤘y'all have a badass day🤘🍻🤘
When can we expect part two my friend? Love this car.
Real nice
Look into giving it parallel steering or even reverse-Ackerman in order to possibly reduce understeer while on power and at high cornering loads. Formula 1 uses reverse-Ackerman in order to turn harder since a tire with more load can withstand a higher slip angle before losing lateral grip. It's also better while in a drift as the trailing tire will not cause drag on the vehicle, and will point more into the direction of travel, hopefully pulling the front end (in the case of FWD) towards the direction of steering in a more stable fashion with less chance of overcompensation since reverse-Ackerman functions as "toe-in while turning."
Hey Tomley Great video! Awesome to see some more Tamiya action on the channel!
What is meant by the term ricer?
Cant wait for the full stripdown rebuild video in part 2!
Keep it up👍
A car or bike from Japan :)
Cheers dude. It’s a term used to describe a poorly modified car…
@@TomleyRC Lol okay thanks! We all know you'll do a good job of it Tomley!
Yeeeer 5 spoke compermotives.💣💥
Gotta love those civics
Go for it 👍💪🍻
cool civic ,looks awesome 😀 👌 👍
Dude where is the rest of this project? Need to see part 2
I have 4 Tamiya ff01 front wheel drive cars. All of them are Volkswagen new beetles. I also have a Kyosho Maxxum FF front wheel drive off road car. This is a very rare car. The Kyosho is a disaster. When it jumps is always lands nose first. That is no surprise . The motor is in the front. It might work well on a dirt oval track. I was considering getting a Schumacher front wheel drive on road car kit. However, that kit is expensive and does not include very much, which will make the car even more expensive to complete. Thoughts?
The Kyosho sounds interesting! But no surprise it’s no good at jumping
Absolutely love it mate looks amazing.. the civic shell on them rims looks sweet as .. I have one myself red civic shell on black wheels.. would love a set of them rims.. oh and brushless too but not fwd it awd 😜
I’m gutted I broke a wheel 😅
Oh nooooo 🫣
Probably help stability if you add some weight in the back. Looking forward to see what you end up with!
Yes, a little bit of weight will certainly help
Doing an Abarth (like my real car) on an M05 chassis at the moment, so will be following closely for tips. If it did 30MPH I'd be happy...looking forward to yours going over 50MPH! :)
I’ve had my Mini M05 to about 30… a cheap brushless set up will do that 👌
I have the Tamiya Mo5 with a little Audi body on it. I will show you in a short vid later. I agree front wheel drive feels a lot different. Its my only Tamiya. They are too fragile plastic. Not Delrin. Brittle. Shiny. Hard to screw into as well. I remember how popular the Grasshopper, Lunchbox and Hornet were when I was young, but I never had one. I had a slow Kyosho Javelin lol barely ran through grass lol
Learning from Kevin that there is never too much power!
That WUD be my favorite shell IS MY FAVOURITE HONDA. But to run on my tt01 chassis if i can get it in 110 scale theEG HATCH CIVIC il be definitly looking out for one
It’s a classic 👌
I modded my M-03 into an FF-01 previously, and have gotten it to 88 km/h before.
Maybe I'll enter my hat into this speed race.
I used the same ESC
HOW DID I MISS THIS!?!?
I want to get one of those and do it in a Time Attack style
Nice one 👍🏻 I’ve got a fwd banzai and it’s not bad 👍🏻 difficult to speed run though 😂
Haha
This is awesome! I know it’s an old post, but why don’t you get and actual EG and mod it by putting a B16 or even a K series motor. Would love to see an actual real car project instead of a measly rc car. I can tell you driving an actual EG hatch is much more fun than playing with a rc car. I do miss my EG hatch.😢
i think running on a sidewalk will help build up good streeing an the work on speed what do you think about my therapy i hope i spelled that right
Trying to decide between this one t the Tamiya VX-2. I leaning toward this
They say you learn something new each day , I didn't even know you could get a FWD rc,
How good would it be if it had a functioning hand brake to lock up the rears 🤔
What a beautiful car!! 👌👌👌
Is that the only brand that uses a Civic hatchback body??
Alright there Mr tomley, dont mind can you share the details on the castle 7700kv motor, where did you get it from?
Would a small gyro help you out?
This looks like a hoot.
Have fun.
Maybe a little yes
Need a new chassis for my M03 Mini too! Whereabouts did you get the chassis component from? Been struggling to find one online 😞
Well enjoyable.
they should make a prelude with 4wd
95 honda prelude now those were good times =) =)
I had 2 Preludes. A JDM SiR, and a UK VTI
YEAHHHH
You should black it out and add green underglows for the fast and furious vibes lol
Haha
I would add a little weight to the back to maybe help it stay more planted
Always start by moving the weight you have before adding more. Be efficient when trying to go fast.
It's easier to push a lighter wagon that is loaded correctly.
Have fun
80mph!!!!!!!!!!
Coooooool
😎🤟
@@TomleyRC fwd able of 80mph is going to be mad
Big fat rubber needed me thinks haha
Front wide arch style
I need a fwd rc car now
What’s the rules Phil ? Are we allowed 3s ? As I’ve an FF03 cavalier here and I’d like to see if I can get close to the world record
No rules other than it has to be stock gearbox… ie no cutting/modding to fit bigger gearing.
@@TomleyRC ok that’s cool , I know you can get smaller spurs for them
@@evo4ralliart As long is you don’t start cutting anything, the rules are pretty basic. Speed has to be recorded with no edits to be taken as legit
@@TomleyRC brilliant thanks mate , look forward to the progress of yours
For you tamiya guys . Is there a universal assorted screw kit I can purchase for tamiya vehicles ?
I have some old Tamiyas I want to upgrade or finish out with electronics.
I can only find kit specific kits for lunch box or clodbuster for example .
Phil how much are these or what's the value of one as I would really love a Honda and good luck beating the record
Very cool, do you have some foams for the front?
Wait, your name is Phil??!! So then where did the "Tomley RC" name come from?
Nice!!!! I have an Accord, a 19 year old one from 2003, 😅 but hey if It was a girl everyone would want It!! 🤣🤣 Anyway I have always liked the Civic, so I really liked this one mate, I really hope the parts are cheaper over there cause un here omg I cant even find them, only on eBay, I just broke 1 of my front knuckles and there are only one set available AND It costs around US$60 and the aluminum ones around 75 - 80 US$ 😞😓😒 I'm going to try and get them printed, hope It works 😅😝 the prices for the tamiya parts are insane un México 🥺
The older Hondas are the best 👌
There has never been a better shaped Civic, and probably never will be judging from their recent massive sedan type direction..
I do like a good parts bin rummage
Don’t we all 😎
