So again, nitro sucks?
user error. didn't run it in and and over revved and overheated it. these engines are really good actually
Nitro works just fine. If you have mechanical sympathy they can be long lived. Just like in the real world, there is a place for ICE and EV.
That’s the scx24 v2 radio lol
not atall, It is being overrevved no cooling, Had nitro engines for years set up right and treated as any engine should be no issues.
Im pretty sure that nitro motor with that high rpm range those rubber tires would drift no problem.
You didn’t cut any cooling holes into the windshield of the body. No wonder it’s over heating.
Yea I was seeing all the cars he has and I’m like he never had a gas powered? Like wtf lol
It is a ready to run car though, surprised they shipped it out with a closed body. An inexperienced person would do the same thing.
There something called taking it to hard
Overheating
As a nitro fan, Kevins nitro videos are both horrifying and hilarious at the same time.
You said exactly what I was thinking
Only the first :-)
Its not funny for me when people waste money..
It looks like,he have no idea how nitro engines are running ;-)

Hey Kev, i just noticed that at 6:34 when you were rebuilding the engine, you swapped the conrod
You were supposed to put the conrod with the small canal facing internally in the engine.
That way the conrod has no lubrication, therefore youu blew it up
The "small canal" doesn't have anything to do with it, but which way the OIL HOLE faces DOES.
@@davelowets that's the same thing, canal means oil hole, which redirects to the conrod, lubricating the shaft
@@davelowets and i'm not English either so imperfections in the way i express myself are to be expected
I have seen this mistake made on larger 1 cyl engines as well
Let's give it up for that pull start🤣🤘🏻 that has to be the strongest pull start I've ever seen on a Nitro

I agree
Kev easy trick for body posts is to dab a bit of paint or tip-x on the tops of posts. Line up body gently drop on to posts then it will leave a mark on inside of body where to drill holes.

Great tip!
The hpi nitro rs4 racer I use for drifting has a piece of fuel tubing zip tied on the controller grip behind the trigger. It normally allows about 1/2 throttle. If I need /want more revs temporarily, I smash the trigger and it goes to about 3/4. You can play with the EPA to suit. It has ran like this for years and it keeps the revs in check when just tooling around. I've even let young children use it like this and it's fine.
Thats a really good idea. I thought the engine might of over heated from revving out without the car moving all that fast. Air cooling is only as good as how fast you are going. Revv limiting though? That is cool
Great idea! Glad that you brought it up! I would never have thought of it.
Not the same, but similar. I underclock my PC, I'm running a 12900k/3090 which when left unrestricted cheeeeeews through the power and gets super hot. I do a 10% underclock and it really makes no difference in the games but uses about 2/3 of the power and generates about 1/2 the heat. If I ever play a game that bottlenecks the cpu or gpu I can just go back to 100%, but in the mean time I'm saving energy and not turning my room in to a furnace.
Long story short. With RC cars, computers, anything really, if you buy high quality items you don't need to run them at 100% to have a good experience. Gains in most applications (HP, GHz, et al) is not a linear response, the last 10% is usually 50% of the heat/power/stress placed on the system. Your manual limiter for your RC car is a genius idea and has the benefit of having a pseudo override by "smashing the trigger" back. Gonna give that a try myself. Thanks mate.
Peace from Oz.

You will want a RC eventually!!!!
Saya juga
I'm not in the hobby, but I did get a off road rc quite expensive. I like this guy's videos too
Although this is a good reminder to always break in your engines, this was an extremely resilient engine
Well off to buy a nitro. Missing the old t maxx. Thanks Kevin
This makes me appreciate electric RC so much
How? Never seized a nitro motor in my hobby years (20 years), but just burnt esc on my arrma under 10 battery cycles... And they aren't cheap. actually, you could get a whole engine on that kind on money... Of course you can destroy anything at inapropiate use as this, but I would but my money on nitros if runtime between failures would be measured. And lets not go in to the batteries. There is so much junk on market that it is unbeliavable.
@@TheGhostman132 Also when little kids want to use my truck I can either put it in beginner mode or pop a Nickel battery in and it's to slow to break anything
Man I really miss this I used to work in a hobby shop once I would love to get involved in this again. I am so happy I found your channel brings back some really cool memories for me
The lack of a break-in process caused that engine to seize up and get destroyed. Despite that sad ending, it was a fun video to watch!
More so the fact the engine had little cooling with no vents cut in the body
I love nitros. The noise they make. I converted the pull start into a drill start using a 12mm socket and the original casing, worked a treat.
For someone who just has electric cars how fun are gas to actually use it seems like working on them like a tiny engine just seems so cool.
I really like how you don't get angry when it blows up like some people do. Great videos
He will not get angry. he knows that he is just damaging that nitro car
When you got cash to replace it why would you
I expect, after a year, Kevin will become the first in the world in the rc hobby. He shoots movies with all his heart, laughs, teaches, breaks, mends, and gives everything he owns to his friends who are with him. You really revived the hobby again throughout the world.
Kev What you should of done is richen the high speed needle maybe a 1/4 of a turn anti clock wise straight out of the box it would of then got more oil at those high RPMs.
YES A DRIFT CARR!! HE DOES SEE MY COMMENTS AHAH that subby boddy is sweet!!!! but now you got to build a 2wd drifter now!!!
More drift coming too!
love the video, with the push rod they go in a specific way round, they have a small hole on the bottom end and that faces the clutch on the engine so it can stay lubracated.
You almost had me convinced until I saw your spelling of the last word
The work he puts into his videos is so cool
do you like when a nito dies? What a human are you?
@@suchenderw9890 its a toy... But not breaking it in wasn't a good idea but he can just afford a new engine.
Thank you Kevin for all your thoughtful content I enjoy it so much! My friend (@Richard French RC's and More) recently got me back into RC cars by buying me a RedCat EPX Drift RTR, to honor my Dad who passed away at the end of 2019 because we both had a massive love for rally and RC when I was a kid . I bought a Bugeye WRX wagon and this summer Im going to finish my widebody conversion(STI/WRX sedan rear doors and fenders). Im going to be picking up a Subaru body for the RedCat when I can afford to get one, I love this platform so much the sheer adjust-ability is insane. I look forward to more drifts in it but also rallying it a bit to. Thank you for reminding me of my Dad, I truly appreciate it!!!
The engines needed to be broken in before full sending them also u needed a temp gun to properly tune them little engines
Tuning without the body, then putting the body on often fucks up the tune/temp anyway.
best rc car guy ever
It's critical to run them in a certain way. I could teach you a thing or two about resolving overheating problems. there are a few modifications and hot ups not standard you can do to make them go hard. Haven't played with a nitro RC engine for awhile. 2speed kysho V1-S was heavy but awesome handling, changed it to a factory ported force . 12 Engine home made high stall lock clutch.. and a few other mods, the venom racing tyres weren't cheap replacing them Every 2nd time out. it Would run with the best 1/8 scale engine, car you could buy at the time.
The FORCE .18 engines tend to run quite hot so you have to be quite careful with them. I loved the .12 Hobao engine it used to be pretty epic and the HPI T-15's were nearly indestructable

A trick I learned for the body post alignment is to use toothpaste on the posts so it marks where to poke through.
Give em the ring of confidence.
Hey all you rc cars and also your monster truck is very awesome keep up your work
It's odd Kev. On one hand you built that Monster truck, which takes quite some engineering nouse, and on the other, specifically with this car, I'm wondering if some of your ancestors were Pikeys.
Fun vid, I really have to get a nitro car some time.
Tomley ran his in, no problems....Talbot goes all out and the engine chews itself .... There's a moral to this!

Hey Kev, every video is amazing, keeping the entertainment for everyone! Keep it up, you’re amazing!!! 💯👍
yeah, that was so funny! Great vid!
Anddddd once again Kev shows us all what not to do with nitro engines 😢 Sad day
i generally like your channel, but sometimes you take it too far. when the engine is brand new, all the surfaces are not seated properly. and THAT is why we run engines in, since the rod bearing takes some time to sit in its place and make a great working point, and then can be run hard. also, the idea of putting a broken piston into the engine is terrible by itself, but especially with the two stroke, because its channels are operated by piston skirts, and they need to be the correct size and shape. an i know you say you are not in it, but then you cannot be suprised than stuff does not like to work like that, and even if the engine will run, it would probably run worse, since now you might have messed up the filling of the crankcase. i like your videos, but sometimes you should respect mechanical principles and not act with inteligence of a beer bottle, if you do something like this with that hemi engine, you will most likely see a rod exiting the engine block...
Cheers👍

Hello mister... LOL Another secret for you.. the heaviest side of the piston pin circlip is where it is open it is now advisable to put the clip opening upwards because the opposite side is heavier it prevents it from turning even better.

Unfortunately I don't like loud noise these days. Still very cool stuff.
Nitro always strikes a cord being an actual lil engine, especially if you are a mechanic ;D
Even after the new connection rod I was thinking “man it’s been a long while since I’ve had a nitro, I’ll get another” then you blew it up again in the same 13 minute video and I remembered why I don’t have nitros anymore. 😂
How to break in a Nitro Engine: Drive it like you stole it.
And that's why I learnt to service my engines, even the new ones. 😆
As said already. Break in is a must for any nitro engine. True skill to break in and tune nitro. Smoked many engines in my early years.
Love your channel.
I love playing with the nitro RC’s but I gave up with them years ago. It’s too easy to slip a Battery in and go with the electric RC Cars. Nitro can be a total pain to work on if your not in the mood for them that day 😅
Use the 14v cooling fan we use on our brushless motors. Mount it to the body right next to the engines cooling head with a separate mini 4s lipo. I have done this with great success. The consistent temp keeps the tune running well, so you aren’t struggling with adjusting for fuel air ratio as temp exceeds the allowed tolerance.
Kevin the first problem is no break in prosses.... and a big holle in to the front window for a ventilation of cilinder colled🔥
Break it in fast… break it fast 😂
It's fun!

You wreck them so we dont have to! What a legend!
One tip I always use for Nitro Longevity. If you hear fuel sizzling when you shut her down it may be a tad lean. If you ever say it's running better than it ever has then it is two seconds from a melt down.
I'd love to have one of these. Looks like loads of fun.
Loving these nitro videos! What are the odds of your buying/building a real nice modern nitro car? Electrics are great, clean, powerful, fast, easy, but nitro is special. I’d love to see you do a proper nitro video. You know one in which the engine isn’t over revved, over heated, and IS properly broken in.

Kev I bet you have loads of broken stuff and random parts. You should build some epic Frankenstein rc with what you have lay around
To line up the body posts you can put a dab of grease on the top of the posts and then sit the body on and the grease will transfer onto the body. Ezpz 👌
Proper break-in the engine!!!
I think my favorite videos from you are the ones of you working on the rc or monster truck love watching rebuilds and you tinker
The pieces missing or dents in the combustion chamber are from detonation and running lean. There is no spark so richen it up a little. Ive seen exact same thing in 2 stroke mx bikes.
All and all, that Force brand nitro engine is built like a tank! It handles extended running at full rpm with no break-in WITH 25% nitro fuel from the start. When the piston skirt shatters, you just remove all the debris from the inside and let it rip! When the conrod bushing goes, you just replace the conrod (usually you have to replace the piston and liner with it, and possibly the bearings, because of the damage the metal debris from the conrod will make to these) And let it rip again! You only managed to kill it by leaning it while at full throtlte with the wheels up. That's a solid engine in my book!
Not to mention the pull-starter, which should have snapped long ago 😂
The Subaru body looks great!
