3. The Lady Wore Black [Queensrÿche - Live in Tokyo 1984/08/05]

- This is Queensrÿche's 2nd concert in Japan and outside North America, luckily for us fans it was captured on film -- it was later released in 1985 on VHS and Laserdisc, but has long been unavailable and out of print. This having once been officially released on video, it was originally edited so the tracklisting was different (see the playlist link in the bottom), and it contains some vocal overdubs (like Geoff laughing in the beginning of Nightrider, as well as other bits throughout the show). This bootleg is already to be found on UA-cam, but in rather poor quality, so I thought I'd upload a better one.
The concert itself is great, the band is playing fiercely and Geoff is screaming and wailing to the best of his ability, nailing those high notes.
All of the songs are great versions, even if they contain overdubs throughout.
Enjoy!

Tate in his prime was untouchable.
Completely agree. Geoff is the best rock singer ever in my opinion.
Absolutely.
@FatalPies i'll pass......
@@freyawildesciencefictionau8156 No, Dio and Steve Perry are the best rock singers ever.
Dio,Perry,Tate,Halford,Plant My top5 in no particular order@@luamoliveira3467
The sheer POWER of Tate's voice, something to behold at his peak.
1 word "Perfect"
No one could touch Geoff at this point of his career. Incredible vocal range, and the stage presence to match the voice.
@pbr6430
If only one could, and it's Michael Kiske, 3 years later in this wonderful Helloween concert:
ua-cam.com/video/9S7CwDMtDAc/v-deo.html
The high registers and vibratos of Kiske I like more than those of Geoff and the rhythms of voice also. But for me both are the best and very similar in their tone.
I would also say that Bruce Dickenson is up there as well
he was a beast
And still to this day very few if any can match this man. I personally like Hansi Kursch and think he is the best and closest comparison to Geoff tate that currently exists in rock music.
You are exactly right
Geoff Tate at his peak had a perfect voice
How is he able to sing this well live; I can't tell the difference between this and the studio version! Insane!
I seen them in concert early 80s. Definitely sounds like this in concert, just like you were listening to a studio recording...Incredible and unforgettable
When you have that talent and work ethic...you can do that...
Great vocalist always sound great live!
Rehearsal! With will and intent...
Insane vocals indeed. The best ever in my book.
THAT VOICE STILL GIVE ME CHILLS AFTER ALL THESE YEARS. HIGHLY UNDERRATED.
you got that fucking right
Never underrated !!! Always awesome!!!! Still has it !!!
His voice was unreal!! Simple perfection!
I was very lucky to see Queensryche at the Hollywood Palladium during the Warning tour. The band was so tight and Geoff was stellar. This video reminds me of that concert. For those who haven't tried the Palladium, it is slightly larger than a high school gym in comparison. I agree completely with pbr6430. No one could match Tate's voice at this time. There was a time in the 80s when it was important to have a great vocalist in a metal band, like a Dickenson, or Halford, and I was into Maiden/Priest. My brain just exploded hearing Tate live.....not many bands/vocalists can reproduce their studio sound live, but Queensryche could. It is a lost art these days.
That show is on the channel by the way! 😊
Question: did they play Warning in the song order as it was intended, to be as a concept album?
@ Thanks for highlighting that concert. I am now a subscriber QB!
@@Ifyernotawakeyet I think so. I remember that they did play some songs in order because I had memorized that album, being a hardcore Queensryche fan. I started listening to them when they came out with "The Lady Wore Black" then I was hooked. I was a solid Maidenhead/Priest fan at the time living in So. Cal, and going into Hollywood to see new bands. Hell of a time back then. I remember seeing Poison in Hollywood and walking out on them because they looked like chicks. We weren't into glam back then, just big drums, dual lead guitars, and most importantly, stellar vocals.
You DICK 😡🤬😡 I'm genuinely Jealous. I pay anything to see them in there PRIME!!! Music is a virtual time machine & will take you back to where you first heard them. 👍👌💔
My husband, a rock guitar god in his own right, had never heard of Queensryche. When I introduced him to them somehow my Queensryche CDs became his CDs. Lol
Damn .... who sings like this firstly and secondly live !!!! Incredible
The greatest footage of recorded music in the history of mankind. Thank you God for saving my life.
Geoff Tate always amazing ❤️
Damn .... who sings like this live !!!! Incredible
I have never seen someone sing better live than this monster called Geoff Tate, circa 1984.

@@butcher_0392 Michael Kiske was Never even Close to Geoff Tate in His Vocal Range. Kiske Screeched, Tate is actually Singing. Probably Due to the Fact that He was Opera Trained. Just Sayin ! 😊
Ministry Of Truth yes 👍🏽
Saw them live in Detroit in 1984. Incredible.
Dio/Rainbow in Europe '76 was wild.
The vibrato in his voice is tight...just perfection with his vocal octave range...
Best of the best without of doubt QUEENSRYCHE Forever.
My opinion Geoff Tate is the greatest vocalist of all time queensryche is in a league of their own just that good
They were brilliant. Better live than studio. Now.?Not so much
much better with all the original members
Best line-up QR ever had!!!
Geoff
Chris
Michael
Eddie
Scott
Don't know what to say apart from the out of this world Geoff's range here
Just so damn good. Every band member kicked ass at their specialty. What a treat it was to be in middle and high school at that time.
I agree! The whole band was tight! What a powerhouse.
Yes! They were tight!
Hell yeah. I was just starting the 6th grade when this show happened. We got to grow up in the greatest era of music ever.
The 80's & 90's were a great time to be young if you were a metal fan. So many great bands at their peak.
@@Powermad-bu4em Yep. I was just starting 7th grade, lol.Great time to be a kid
Top 5 metal voice ever… no way !!! ❤
Number one yes way !
That is some of the best live music ever captured.
Plus, Tokyo had the best sound system in the videos!
I agree and I'm not a huge Queensryche fan. This is the single greatest live performance ever.
Oh hellz yes! Hadn't heard this version til tonight! So fucking awesome! To anyone else who's here enjoying this excellence, I bid you extremely well! Rock on & peace out!👍🤟😎
Wow can't remember the last time I heard this song before tonight. That voice is so haunting and beautiful at the same time. Excellent live version...
These people at this show were blown the fuck away . . . .
I'm sorry !
What a fuckin show this musta been !
Love this SHIT!!! First heard Queensryche on one of those Masters of Metal cassettes and was immediately hooked. “The lady wore black” is just such a great song. Couldn’t afford to buy the music at the time so I luckily had a buddy that had the EP, The Warning and Rage for Order. I recorded them onto some blank cassettes and I just found them and they still play, not great sounding but still pretty damn cool that they still play. Seen them open for Metallica in Philadelphia and then later seen them headline while doing the whole Operation Mindcrime album. Brings me back to my youth, I’ll be 50 in a few months and I am still a headbanging metalhead. lml
You’re a pup, I’m 69 pushing 70 and…….here I am…… .
(just messin with ya since your my son’s age, 51 this month)
One of the great albeit underappreciated metal vocalists, period.
Thumbs down?.... Seriously.... This is an absolute masterpiece
Must be from fans of jon bon Blow Me!

PERFECTION !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey Danny Wasted, seems everytime i search YT music to Bluetooth in my car i find your site!
Good on ya mate! Cheers from Milwuakee Wis 🍺 🍺
Doesn't get any better than this
Absolutely Greatest vocalist ever.
Great Band,Great Singer
Just sheer perfection. Geoff Tate was Queensryche!
None can take Geoff place he will always be queenesryche
First saw Queensryche in 1985 in Bakersfield CA. They opened for Kiss. Though not knowing the songs, their sound and Geoff's voice was mind-blowing, and the bands stage presence was amazing 🤟 🎶
Yes sir all these guys were untouchable
Geoff singing DeGarmo's songs was a winning formula.
I got the pleasure to see them live. They played their hits and the entire Mindcrime Album. Absolutely Amazing.
This man is a rock God!! I don’t think anyone could compare with his tremendous voice!! Maybe Chris Cornell. Jesus he can sing!!! Tremedous
Good god what a voice
Just brilliant!!!! Way ahead of their peers!!!!! A lot has been said about Tate...but the others are just as stupendous....DeGarmo, Jackson, Wilton and last but NOT least...Rockenfield...man...the dude is a monster on the skins!!!! Mindblowing!!!!
Eddie Jackson is one of the most underrated bassists ever in my opinion.
@@tracescalf3293
He has probably my favorite bass tone of all time.
Completely agree.
Indeed !
All of them alone were Queensryche though
This was a magic band
I mean just listen . . .
if any element is missing or replaced
the magic doesn't work the way intended
Fantastic voice, The best vocal of rock
Their brand of rock was ahead of their time, long live the Ryche !!!!!
Amazing performance all around. Extra props to Scott's drumming in this. Perfection!
Geoff Tate’s voice was so distinctive and unique reaching the highest notes flawlessly. First time seeing them was opening up for Dio with The Warning tour in 1984. Been a huge fan ever since.
Such an underrated band which is just ridiculous to me since he has that godly voice.
Amen, bro. Powerful stuff.
Most people don't know about the Early Truly Great Metal Queensryche . They judge it on their later Pink Floyd Mind Crime where Geoff stopped singing high notes and dist all their Metal Roots.
Yeah, this happens when bands age and lose their energy. Thanks for reminding me to listen to this again. Wow. The changeup at 3:28 just slaughters me!
Sorry bro he doesn't have a Godly voice, when Geoff Tate sings God sits back and shut the fuck up out of respect
underrated in ignorant countries, yes!
Excellent we wore black to Operation Mindcrime
VS Collusion Diesels Pittsburgh ❤️🔥💗💋
I am still claiming this to be the best band at least 'in MY lifetime'
God I miss Queensryche! There will never be another like them! So far ahead of their time, never got their due!
holy crap!! I grew up on this!!
Me too! Helluva decade!
Blessed to grow upon this best time for metal
Early 80s to Early 90s was the golden age of metal
PERFECTION !!!
I’m just speechless ❤️
Geoff Tate has the greatest singing voice ever🤘His vocal style is truly UNIQUE 🤘to think this guy is a baritone truly shows his talent.A TRUE METAL GOD🤘 LISTEN TO THAT POWER🤘
mike11pisano, So true! The new vocalist for Queensryche Todd La Torre tries to copy Tate's style of singing the high notes but notice he never ever tries to copy Tate's low register notes because he can't. Tate's vocal range is so wide starting at the very low range to killer sonic highs!
I saw Geoff this summer. He is still amazing live. I will see him in the spring. I think Todd is much better when he sings like Todd.
This whole show was incredible. I can’t believe how good they were. Just amazing. Wish I had been there.
The change they made in keeping the tempo slower during the chorus was a huge improvement over the studio version which sounded a bit rushed.
I noticed the same thing, I listened to the live version first and then the studio version, studio version was underwhelming because the chorus vocals seemed rushed.
really the only difference in the studio version and this live version, I said that to my son the other day, I said the only difference is the studio version seems 1/64th faster
Amazing he sings here so effortlessly.. Incredible, to say the least and I'm glad that I witnessed these shows live from 1985-95 some of his best performances imo!
The vocals here are in another level.
TRUE STORY: That whistling Geoff does at the beginning of the song was never intended to be included in the original recording. It happened by accident .. The band was listening to a rough playback of TLWB in the studio and Geoff started doing his whistling along to the intro but everyone was unaware that someone accidently hit the RECORD Button in the studio and it caught the whistling. So of course when they played the whole mix back and realized what had happened, they decided to keep the whistling in the mix because it sounded great.
How do u know that?
The best voice ever n the best live shows. The good old days. These are all getting played at my funeral. Lol. For real. Some of the best memories of my life to Queensryche soundtracks. Have seen him once since the "break up". He was amazing as always.
Something about this group is epic, eternal.
T Mst for e verrrr
2021 still love queensryche
1983...16 years old, cruising with buds...both kinds... listening to 101 KLOL METAL SHOP in Houston with DJ Linda Silk at 11pm. She introduced the Queensryche EP on her show and we were hooked...got to see them in concert with "Axe" and "Quiet Riot"! Flipping badass show when we were the youths of those day!
Dig it, saw them in New York same tour. Now all my kids and my granddaughters are into Queensryche. Raise my kids right
I remember those days..
kiss wishes they could have been as talented as these guys.
Wow! I wish I would've been at this show. Every video that I've seen of it was a flawless performance from the whole band!
I have seen Queensryche 3 times.
Geoff Tate in my opinion is the best vocalist in Rock! Ann Wilson and Layne Staley are up there also.
First time I listened to this tape i was blown away by all four of those songs on that e.p. Then came the warning and legends were born.
So much of their music has so many cool transitions like this and Roads to Madness. Great singer and great musicians..
This was absolutely my favorite album by Queensrÿche. It was the first time I could remember ever hearing a 'concept album' that wove an intricate story within its lyrics, and that it hearkened 'back' to a more medieval time with fantasy elements such as sorcery, immortality and undeath was the icing on the cake. God damn if I haven't been waiting forever to see this adapted to some sort of movie or book or something, it's that damn good!
Vocals and song perfection 🖤🖤🖤
The best and worst days of my youth all had Queensryche playing in them......i miss those days.......and this music......thanks for uploading this clear version.
Perfection
Just killing it
Best live performance...i love the druming part.👍👍👍
Have been with them since the beginning- pure magic
I was there from the beginning, too, but the loss of Geoff and Chris have not been good for the band.
@@calmnsense I couldn't agree more ❣️
At age 15my appreciation level was Nell. But now at 51 how awesome it was to grow up in a time of the best and greatest decade for metal long hair and people.keep cool see you in 2069!!
A friend of mine back in '84 said "Hey, listen to this" I said Holy Sh-t!! Been a fan ever since, 🤘
hell yea they were great live in the 80s
Absolutely awesome! It's more than just his vocal range which is so Superior but there's a tonal quality that is so unique that you know it's him and it's freaking awesome. That whole band was meant to be, even if they weren't around as long as the rolling Stones or whoever these guys were so unique and absolutely incredible. 💥
jUST SO COOL
This was beyond epic it's not a hard song to play but man the vibe and execution raw Ryche when they were kids! bad ass
Pure class.
Why on Gods green earth isn't there a live recording of Crimson Glory on this level of quality.
Amen brother!
Its actually hard to believe at times this is a live performance. Not a flat note anywhere. It is slightly different at times from the recorded version so you know its live, but wow. What a singer. I watched an analysis recently from Ken Tamplin about Tate and why he lost his range in later years - great analysis on head and chest voice.
I said the exact same thing just in different words . . . . .it is a virtual carbon copy of the studio version with only some tiny variations , so much so I would almost swear it was played over this performance !
BUT IT IS NOT !
this is pure perfection !
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Rare !
Kinda like what RUSH does in concert . . . .note for fucking note perfection !
My first concert, the Warning Tour- they opened for KISS during their Animalize tour. I was hooked as a Queensryche fan from the start.
I to seen them on that tour....I already been listening since the EP but saw them live on The Warning....I still say live, especially Tate's vocals are the best I've ever seen live.... sounded just like the album.
Caught that show in San Diego. Incredible
And they realy wanted to play after that perfection?
Same same, location too as that other guy, ☝️I was there to see Queensryche.. anything after that was a bit of a let down..
Such a perfect sound for a young band....
That
Last
Note....
Breathtaking.
The best years ever.
Thank God for this quality audio/footage.
I'd like to thank my Uncle Joey, who also happens to be my best friend.... Thank you for teaching me about great music at an early age. If it weren't for him.... I'd probably be listening to Motley Crue or Poison. (I was born in 77) 😂
Classic Ryche !
My all-time favorite song. Heard this and "Queen of the Ryche" when it came out during my senior year in high school. Bought the EP and They've been my band since. I may have a Scorpion inked on my arm (my former #1 band), but this band is the shit.
~S
Best band I ever saw live in terms of all round sound clarity, helped of course by being great musicians.
splendid ! .... many many thanks ... 🥰🥰
This is the closest I have heard live sound this close to studio. Even better than Priest Live Vengeance
Such amazing....will see Geoff in a few months nearly 40 years after this amazing show in Tokyo
His singing voice is second to none! a true vocal Good from day start!!
Nothing better than when you're at the top of your game
Such a fine drummer
Listen to the album " Warning" after listening to the band live in this concert. They are so spot on it is incredible. I bought the album when it first hit stores in 1984. Needless to say I was completely blown away and instantly became a lifelong fan!
such a tight band. Fuck they sounded great back then and right on the money. That's what you pay your hard earned $ for. A band who can sound as similar to the record as this and better. Rockenfield one of my all time favorites.
Anche a questo Live ero presente, pensa quanto tempo è passato
Nothing against Todd Latorre but Geoffrey Tate set the bar high and nobody else has reached it yet, he was untouchable in his prime.
Doubt anyone ever will
