  • How can light have momentum if it does not have mass?
    Can light really push you?
    Well the answer is... quite frankly yes! As per Newtonian Mechanics we know that momentum is the product of mass and velocity but to be honest it has some restrictions.

    "There are photons that have been traveling for 30,000 years, and I'm... snatching them from this journey and planting them into my digital detector. And then I started feeling bad for the photon, and I said maybe it wanted to continue but I got in its way. But then I said, no, those are probably happier photons than the one that slammed into the mountainside that will go unanalyzed and will not contribute to the depth of our understanding of the universe." ~ Neil deGrasse Tyson

    I have a question regarding photon , this question is roaming in my mind for many days the question is photon don't have mass but they split into electron and positron so how this is possible photon don't have mass but the produced electron and positron have mass from zero mass how photon can splits into electron and positron. Is this violating conservation of mass ?

      Dude, I had the same question... I don't remember the accurate answer right now, but it's something related to Higgs Boson... You should probably check it out 🚀🔥

      Its not about the mass its about the energy pf the system which can be converted into mass or vice-versa

    I’m a grade 9 student who only learnt basic electricity, heat and reflection refraction of light, but I just wanna ask that in special relativity you got E^2= p^2+c^2 but you can’t further simply the squares because LHS and RHS are different unknowns squaring, can you?

    • @PointofUncertainty
      @PointofUncertainty  2 роки тому +2

      Actually, your concern will be addressed in 11th grade when you will learn about dimensions. It doesn't mean what you are doing, you dimensions must match in order to make a correct formula. And in special relativity, the dimensions of LHS = RHS.

    1. 0:01 given by 0:020:03
    Energy of photon can be given by this equation e equals hf.
    --> E=hf
    ㆍㆍㆍ
    photon 광자, 광양자
    (ㅅㅈ) 빛은 파동성과 입자성 두 가지 성질을 지니고 있다. 파동의 성질로 본다면 빛은 전자기파에 해당하며, 입자의 성질로 볼 때 광자(광양자)로 명명한다. 광자 한 개의 에너지는 플랑크상수(h)에 빛의 진동수(f)를 곱한 값, 즉 hf이고 운동량은 hf/c(c는 진공에서 빛의 속도)이다.
    2. 0:04 and 0:07 which 0:10 10 0:12 and 0:15
    It was given by professor Max Plank and here h is plank's constant which is 6.626 into 10 to the power minus 34 joule second and f is the frequency of the photon.
    ㆍㆍㆍ
    h = 6.626 × 10^(-34) Jㆍs
    Js = joule × second
    (ㅅㅈ) 한편 파동성에서 진동수와 연관을 살피면, 일정한 진동수의 빛은 그 진동수에 플랑크상수(h)를 곱한 값이 한 개의 광자의 에너지(E)이다.
    여기서 J는 에너지의 단위인 줄이며, s는 시간의 단위 초이다. 한편 진동수의 단위는 1/s 이다.
    3. 0:17 0:18
    So now let's take an example to find the energy of a red photon.
    4. 0:21
    The red photon has a frequency of 4.3 into 10 to the power 14 hertz.
    5. 0:27
    And according to the equation we just have to multiply the frequency with the plank's constant and when we do so we get the value as 2.849 into the 10 to the power -19 joules but now let's take a look at the wider picture.
    0:40
    Later Einstein proved that e equals m c square where m is the mass of the body and c is the speed of light.
    0:47
    So now
    .

    We can no longer say light is massless because we can't prove it . All we can say is that it may be massless or it might be none zero mass below a certain level. Your figure may actually be correct.

    எனவே, ஒளிக்கதிர்களை உருவாக்கும் ஃபோட்டான்கள் அறிவார்ந்த மனிதர்களைப் போல் செயல்படுகின்றன: சாத்தியமான அனைத்து வளைவுகளிலிருந்தும் அவை எப்போதும் தங்கள் இலக்கை விரைவாகக் கொண்டு செல்லும் ஒன்றைத் தேர்ந்தெடுக்கின்றன.
