You didnt just make Effie’s look, you made a recreation of an Alexander McQueen look!!!! And those dresses are so intricate and it’s expensive! You made it absolutely perfect!!! Im definitely gonna make an 1890s version of this look with flat butterflies climbing up the dress skirt and whole 3D butterflies on the sleeve puffs and in the wig.
"...a recreation of an Alexander McQueen" Exactly! And that in itself is no small feat. It's just lovely. And using a glue gun with such tiny pieces. Yikes.
@@Lint_Julep I’d love to make this look too but I dont think I can find a thousand or so butterflies so I might make a gown with monarch butterflies on it made of rhinestones since those are sparklier and Im like a magpie for sparkles.
I love how you take on fun challenges and are so upbeat! I use to sew my own clothes when I was younger (many moons ago) but life gets in the way sometimes. I just retired and find that I have time to rediscover many of the crafts that I use to enjoy. There are also a lot of crafts that I'm just learning about also. There are so many resources now! It's almost like my life was black & white and is now in color. Thanks for being an inspiration.
Great job! Love the enthusiasm. On a history note, this is a look from "her" S/S 2011 collection. McQueen died on February 11, 2010, and that collection was Sarah Burton's first full collection as creative director of McQueen. So you made a look from a female designer! Win!
omg this is the best type of comment - definitely give it a shot!!! I have no formal sewing trailing - it's all just trial and error and learning from your failures!
I absolutely love this dress!!! I think that few months was so worth it!!! You have inspired me to make dress designs/make dresses inspired from others! Thank you :]
It's a little too late now, but if you ever have any future big hot glue projects, I've been there with my own feathers! Tip - getting some heat proof gloves are super worth it to save yourself fully burnt fingers 😭
In a bizarre twist, I actually have a McQueen sample dress from around this period, it's satin but has all the pen markings from being put together to test out the concept - and it has that exact same tapered-to-extra-wide-bell shape!
Excellent work! Your butterfly dress is stunning! Effie would approve. I have some gorgeous monarch butterfly fabric that I had planned to make a retro 50's dress inspired by Effie's ensemble (complete with headpiece & 3-D butterflies). It has been sitting in my stash for longer than I care to admit. Your video has lit a fire under me & inspired me to get to work on my own creation.
The best: Outfits - Hunger games Editing - Harry Potter Humour - Guardians of the Galaxy Little details - Wednesday Christmas movie - The Christmas Chronicles
This is without a doubt my favourite of all the things you have made, its absolutely incredible and the faithfulness to the original is just - perfection! I was so excited to see you made a longer form video on it!
The dress is absolutely stunning!! The dedication you have when creating different dresses, outfits and costumes is so admirable and I adore the creativity you have. I'd be very interested to see you recreate one of your old creations to see the improvement you made 🤩
The dress looks so good! I love how you captured the patterns of the original and the little heart. :) Can't wait to see the next wonderful thing you make.
I was wondering, if you haven’t already, make a video explaining on how you got in to fashioning design and dress making? That would be amazing! You are my idol!
You’re a creative genius!✨ I am also a huge fan of Effie’s butterfly dress & I love how deep you looked into the original & replicated it with such detail
This is by far the most impressive dress you've made!!! I'm so amazed and happy you were able to pull it off! Those patterns are not easy to follow and tricky to spot with the eye.
This is so absolutely beautiful and amazing, loved seeing the process. It absolutely baffles me how people can just make stuff like this, the make up, hair piece and butterfly wings on your arms and face as final details really made it come together fully. Keep it up!
This video cheered me up since I love sewing or making clothes for myself but also because Effie's dress is so memorable, I think it's one if not, my favourite when it comes to modern movies. It encapsulated Effie's personality, bubbly, selfless, kind and courageous, trying to put on a smile even in the most sad situations.
When I fist saw Effie's dress i was amazed, and seeing somebody recreate it just makes me happy and youre to talented and creative, I really really admire you :)
I was obsessed with this dress since the moment I saw it and I haven't seen your video yet, but I can already see on the thumbnail that it turned out perfectly - you're so talented!! 😭💗
Came across your channel as I was trying to find ideas for Effie and love it. I appreciate the way you share your artistry so that others can also learn and be a part of the joy. I had to subscribe 😊. You have a beautiful future ahead.
Next time you need to glue something to cloth you can use a fabric glue and just a small amount of hot glue. The hot glue will hold it in place for the fabric glue to dry. The fabric glue is flexible.
Honestly, I’m pretty surprised nowadays that other people use Ali Baba too, it’s pretty great when it comes to prices. The dress ended up being absolutely STUNNING! I love it so much and your videos!
I'm a guy and not into fashion. But when I read the books I found the fashion part of it quite interesting. In the acknowledgement the author wrote that she isn't interested in fashion but had some help by a person. I think the reason why I found it interesting and even was looking forward on how the movie writers interpret the dresses was because the author is not really interested in fashion. I think the movie one looks a bit more 3D because they used bigger butterflies and the ones sticking out covered a bit of a wider area on the movie dress. But yours is a bit more colorful. As a whole it is a very pretty dress and a well edited video. :)
I love this!!!! Esp the butterflies you put on your face and eyes! They look beautiful! Ingenious idea and I'm so glad you got the butterflies disassembled so you didn't have to cut them. It's a work of art! Was it roughly 1,000 whole butterflies or 1,000 halves ? Amazing I love it!!! Thank you so much for sharing your talent, it's so interesting and your videos are so full of interesting information and genuine creative talent and ideas - you are a true artist and this is true artistry - like no other! Never change 💕💖💕💗
it was 1000 butterfly wings, so 1000 halves! I bought 1000 full butterflies so i ended up sending the other half to another artist who wanted to make her own dress!
@@crescentshay Oh that's so lovely! Hey shay, thank you so much for creating content for us to watch. I love the hunger games and your dress looks so good! Hi Shay! I just wanted to thank you for inspiring my halloween costume if 2023, you did such an amazing job i was very inspired. My mom made me my dress so i wanted to credit her aswell. I am also a really big Hunger Games fan, like you! Thank you so much Shay! ❤
Kudos to you. A few months ago I played Keeri in the musical Firebringer and I had the idea to attach those same butterflies to my costume. I had a few on my crop top piece and then a bunch gathered on flowers on my skirt and those butterflies became the bane of my existence. One inevitably broke every show and I was always in the green room frantically supergluing or hot gluing them back in place. I even accidentally superglued a wing onto my thumb one night because I was in such a hurry. XD I can't imagine working with that many butterflies.
I've seen this video a cupple days ago and I said "wow cut dress" Now I just finished watching the hunger games and I said "that's were the dress comes from"
The dress being constrictive was actually intentional in the books and the movies, the people of the capital wore nice bright clothes compared to those of district 12, but if you look closely… They’re very constrictive. They’ve tight, hard to move in. They’re also under the oppression of President Snow and his government. They’re not starving or sick like the most outer districts, but they can’t move as freely as the others can.
The butterfly dress is so beautiful and stunning i cant imagine how youd make a masterpiece. And you kind of look like Emma Stone, youre very beautiful.
Seeing you spin in those shoes at the end had my ankles quaking in fear 😂 What a stunning dress and piece of art! I love your dedication to all your projects-. You really do give them 110% - and it shows 💗

I love this dress so much! And oh man, I wish I lived in a state that allowed purchased from AliBaba. 😭 many projects of mine have been priced out of my budget (or just made way more expensive) because my state banned them from selling to people here. Bulk buying components for cheap is so much harder without that option. Some things you can find for reasonable prices elsewhere, but others are just crazy expensive in comparison. I had used a workaround in the past (you can use a service that gives you a shipping address in another state that then forwards it automatically to you) but it was slow, risky, and kind of expensive, at least back when I tried it, so I just gave up on them.

Question: do you have a place where you keep all of your creations? If so could we maybe have a tour? Love your videos btw:)
She puts them in her attic
a few summers ago I built a place to store them all in my attic! I've got to clean it up a bit, but I'd be down to doing a little tour sometime :)
Question, will the code for Boksu work at other places like £ bc since she said it take 15$, I wondering
I can’t ruin the likes in this comment also totally agree I think there so be tours so people could admire the beauty of her creations
