    you are perfectly correct about the shippers throwing it. i worked in a warehouse and literally if they could frisby a box they would.

    I use paper “water activated tape” (WAT) which is also sometimes called “gummed tape.” That stuff is FANTASTIC because it practically bonds with the paper on the cardboard.
    Most of my stuff is light enough to mail First Class, so I’m grateful I can avoid the reinforced tape (I also really hate using plastic)!
    EcoEnclose (not an affiliate or sponsored or anything - I just really love their products and customer service) has LOTS of eco-friendly mailing options! Hope this helps someone!

    You should use paper tape too! I recently switched over and I love it! I use the reinforced gummed tape, same shit amazon puts on their boxes and it works wonders

    Not much space on the top & bottom of the box. UK Post office recommends 5 cm packing all round. I think your box is a bit shallow for this. If you hammered on the top I think it may have broken. It could of course be the camera angle that makes it look shallow. Love your videos! Happy holidays.

    If you had it that second box from the top it would have broke! Definitely need more room on the top, all sides!!

    I tough you would do an extreme test to your packaging, like kicking it and throwing it, I´m disappointed... but not so much :)

    My big issue is when there is more than one piece in a box. The only broken pieces have had fellow pottery travelers in same box. I try to put stuff in between. Hrrrm

    Thats a 60's era hammer. My father had a hammer like that. People make fun of my inherited old school tools. I can't find my hammer. Were'd you get that hammer?

    • @EarthNationCeramics
      @EarthNationCeramics  3 роки тому +1

      I'm pretty sure it's my great-grandfather's hammer. as a general rule if it's not broken and it still works I'm not going to get rid of it for something shiny and new.
      So when this got handed down to me I just kept using it

      @@EarthNationCeramics That sounds about right with our age differnces and i thankfully just stumbled across mine. I always knew there was something about you I liked and now your family too. So many will go out and get the new thing just because they added a little glitter to it. Best in the new year.

    What is "priority mail"? I see these boxes for free on their website..not looking to pay extra on anything "priority" though?

    • @hygs8952
      @hygs8952 3 роки тому

      Priority mail is used for anything over 13 ounces. Packages under 13 ounces can go First Class, which is cheaper.
      Some companies, like Pirate Ship (love them!) have a deal with the post office to give you a discount AND increase the weight of First Class to under 16 ounces (a pound).
      As for the Priority Mail boxes - yes they are free, BUT, you can only use Priority Mail when shipping, regardless of weight.
      I’m no expert, but I’ve had the same questions when I first opened my Etsy shop. So, I hope this helps! 😊

      @@hygs8952 Do you generally prefer Regional Rate A/B for shipping your pottery? I'm just getting into shipping my pottery and noticed the significant price difference between Priority Flat Rate and Regional Rate A for things under 10lbs (generally my stuff is small 1-3lbs, but the post office clerk said flat rate would be better. I checked the cost again at home with click n ship and Regional Rate STILL shows the better deal! Any tips or insight to what you use? I ship from OR. Thanks in advance!

    • @hygs8952
      @hygs8952 2 роки тому +1

      @@f.sanchez5723 Sorry, but I don’t have an answer for you regarding Regional rates. I don’t (currently) sell pottery, and what I do sell is rarely over a pound per order. (I’m a really small shop! 😅)
      However, be careful about blindly following the advice of the postal clerk (or anyone, really!). Not all of them are familiar with the differences between the commercial rates (available through Pirate Ship, Click n Ship, Etsy, whatever), and the retail rates (at the counter). It is NOT a flat percentage discount across the board.
      I hoped this helped, even a little. Good luck!
