Sadhviji's Mother's Birthday

Yesterday was Mom's birthday! We had such a beautiful celebration. The day began with us singing with her in her garden, after of course giving her tilak and flower garlands and doing her aarti! Karen can sing all the oldies but goodies that Mom LOVES. We even got Mom tapping along and even singing along at some places. She was really enjoying herself. Then we took her to Ganga aarti and then to satsang with me. After satsang, we had a special cake and ice-cream celebration and a zoom call with family and friends to wish her Happy Birthday. She kept saying "Wow," after she heard people say their names on the call. While she didn't eat the cake and ice cream in the midst of the crowd (I think it must've been a bit overwhelming) she enjoyed it deeply in her room afterwards. The amazing young women who took care of her dressed her up in new clothes and new shoes. It was just beyond sweet. A year ago, as I stood over her bed at Providence St. John's hospital, 3 weeks after her stroke, I never could have imagined we'd be here a year later. It has been a year of grief, of acceptance, of expansion and of learning a whole new way to love - one that doesn't depend on sharing a common sense of time, place, situation or relationship. It's been such a blessing to have such an amazingly love-filled ashram family who just ADORE her and shower her with love and affection (and sweets!)
