Thanks Morgan, @ 41 hours both forks on my xc leaking like the Titanic. Knocked out service and new seals today with the help of your video.
I think I'm actually starting to under stand how forks work after watching this most recent fork video you've put out. I've seen a lot of them you have done. I've just been mostly confused until today.
Sure makes it easy to measure spring preload. I like the design.
Whoooo! Perfect timing. I’m changing just fork springs tomorrow. 😅
Good stuff, im so looking forward to getting the conversion done on my 89CR250R hopefully in the next month maybe
I usually wrap the threads in Teflon tape. probably overkill, but it makes me feel better about it.
Thanks for the info, Morgan. Great instructional video!
🤘🏻🤘🏻
Been waiting for this! YEEEEEBOI
I have a 2024 250xc and have no trouble using all the fork travel for c level hare scrambles. That is a first for me as I never could use the last 1-2” of travel on the air fork.
7/8 deep socket will go rt over the rebound adjustment plug In the bottom. No need to remove the red adjuster
Thanks!
Thank you
Drill some 0.1 millimeter holes in the hidro-stop. That's a tiny drill but they make them. .0039 basically .004 inches (4 thousandths) hole.
Nice one👍
Cartridge oil capacity is 174ml
External oil capacity is 390ml
This information is out of the service manual specs.
Thanks. The literature in the box calls for 370 in the outer chamber but doesn’t say anything about the inner.
I put 390ml in my outer. May be a bit harsh… Good to know I can can go down to 370ml though. 🤜🏻🤛🏻
20ml difference in outer oil will only effect bottoming.. last couple inches of travel
Hans and Franz haha!
Thanks for the video! Where I can find the tool to loosen the inner chamber / compresión valve?
Is that a huck valve similar to the lucky cartridges at the bottom there? You call it the hydro stop?
Or turn it down slightly shorter on the lathe. Just use a part off tool.
I wonder if instead of turning the hydrostop down it would make sense to drill some progressively smaller relief orifices in it?
really have to clean the locktite out of the threads.
Ah I get it now. You don't need to set oil height on closed chamber. Is that correct? Nice video. I have a 24 300 xcw.
Yes. That’s correct
wait till you tear a 24 xcw shock apart. Things just don't seem to add up
Hint, when the rod is fully extended, you want the ICS to be under pressure..
Silly ask, what is an ISC?
@@bikemancody2752 corrected .. ICS internal compression spring.
Hi Morgan, Thanks for excellent content i am learning a lot ! I want to ask Two questions about 2021 AER 48 air forks ..first i would like to service my air chamber i dont have any issues but would like to re-grease as you advised in your vlog my problem is which grease is suitable ? Secondly in the manual they offer a variation of the amount of oil to refill the outer tubes of +40 what will the extra oil do (i am thinking more resistance ) so i am 95 kg should i raise the oil amount? thanks again if you do manage to answer this i would appreciate it ...Keep Vlogging
I actually now add a little 10/40 motor oil in the air chamber for lube. About 5-10 cc’s. Adding oil will increase “spring” pressure so stiffer.
Little off topic but do you have a video on replacing seals on the older KTM 50mm up right or what ever forks they are thanks
I don’t think I have filmed that
Definitely dive into the hydra stop video. I rode my 24 300 XCW for the first time over the weekend.
I did a 25mm lowering job. Im 215 without gear. .48 fronts 8.0 rear. The bike beat the sh#$ out of me. Even with the compression out all the way front and rear. Still have almost 3 inches travel left on front forks. Can u comment to that? Lol
That’s crazy. Your spring rates sound way off to me
@@highlandcycles come to find out the shop that put my 25mm lowering kit in, put the stock oil amount back in. I took 50cc out.
Thoughts on cutting an 1 inch off the hydro stop?
@@bikemancody2752 I think it could be good
Hey Morgan. Quick question for you sir. I have an old set of CC forks from 2012 or 2013. How did those compare to the new WP forks or the 6500s? I’m thinking of fixing them up to put them on my 21, 250XC TPI. The AER forks have been pretty good but down here in Georgia they get rough later in the day in the woods. Thanks.
The old CC with the bladder are my favorite forks personally. They are what the Dal Soggio spheres are based on. I would dial those in for sure
@@highlandcycles Thank you for the fast feedback and I'm glad to hear that you like the old CC forks. Made my day. Cheers
Looking for that fork cap protector tool.
www.highland-cycles.com/store/highland-cycles-fork-protector-tool
can you pull a spacer out above the spring to decrease preload? Or will the spring flop around?
I don’t think you can. I’d need to get back in there but I’m pretty sure you need them in there
@@highlandcycles thanks. whats the oil capacity for the damper and the outter chamber on the new CC Xact forks? Can't find this in the manual.
Is the 6500 upgrade worth it compared to the stock 24 stock set up?
I don't think so. I think with a little work the stock 24 stuff will be just as good.
Hey dude! Im doing a bottom end rebuild on a 98' ktm 125 , I need a primary gear holder that's custom to the bike but I was just wondering if there any aftermarket kits that fit a variety of different sizes? I'd rather have a kit and have tools to fit other bottom ends that just one that costs 60$ What would you recommend?
Thank you?
I’m not sure. Probably going to be tough on that year of bike
can you change springs without oil didnt c any when you took springs out thx
No you can’t
Are these '24 forks the same as the Gasgas '24 forks on a xc350f? I'm about to do a thang...
Yes
Morgan, I want to do an early oil change on my 6500 kit. If I am only changing the outer chamber oil, do I need to unscrew the nut at the bottom of the fork shoe and remove the cartridge to drain all of the oil? Thanks
if you want it all out, you do
@@highlandcycles Thanks. Will do.
Ever consider starting your own suspension service/tuning “company”?
We are a part of TBT
Excellent !
Can anybody point me in the direction for a spring chart on these '23-24 xact closed cartridge forks. I compared race tech and slavens and they differ by about 3 or 4 sizes. I need big boy springs as I weigh about 235 w/o gear. Has me scratching my noggin'. Thanks
Email me at morgan@highland-cycles.com I can get you dialed
Thanks for the awesome video. Who makes the tool you used to get the inner cartridge apart. I think it was red in color. You had a motion pro one on the bench but it look bigger. At 6:20 in the video
That a motion pro tool
@@highlandcyclessorry I should have asked if you know the part number of it or the size. Want to order the tool. Thx for your response
@@ianjones7526 sorry. Here is the tusk version. It actually fits better bit.ly/2ieaCPW
@@highlandcycles your awesome thanks
Oh my that red lock tire was a real pain. The hydrostop wouldn’t come off for me. Had to continuously go back and forth with heat and slowly it came off. Seemed like it was galled on there. Even after cleaning the threads all out it still seems to go on tight. Not sure why.
Are you a fan of Vegemite? Asking as an interested Australian who can see it on the top shelf there. Most non-Australians use too much at once and find it terrible.
I love it
Does the oem skf seal kit fit the AER forks ?
Yes
Why do you dislike metering rod carbs? I am a keihin kind of guy, but the mikuni tmx can be made to work
The mikuni isn’t a metering rod carb
@@highlandcycles I know that the mikuni is not a metering rod carb. Smartcarb and lectron are what I am asking about. I have never ran a metering block carb. I am also an old schooler that has bench tuned the carb I run. I put a merge racing accelerator pump spring and a quickshot 2 in my 06 450R. The jd jetting needles are great for the tmx. Typical trail riders don't tune shit creating a demand for technology to idiot proof trail bikes
So is it possible to drop 6500 into this new chamber ? with some specific adapter maybe ?
Yes.
Did the other fork have air in it like the one you showed us in the video?
@@derfyddezx9 No it didn't. Weird
I’m pretty disappointed the GasGas Enduros (EC) model don’t come with them this year. Bad move. Maybe they need to use up existing Explor fork inventory. Perhaps in 2025 it will change. But the new forks are a big draw on the 2024 models. I was considering selling my TPI and getting a TBI GasGas, but not now. 😭
That does suck.
I was at the same point. being disappointed the GG didn`t have it. I rode the closed cartridge ones and its a blast. But then tried the new `24 GASGAS and they changed totally the setting and there is a huuuge difference between the old ones and the new one. I can recommend it 👍
Anyone here with these forks have issues with the air build up. I can hear the forks make swoosh noise while I ride. The forks blew air and oil out of my seals when I seal mated them. Te300 24, 18 hrs.
That’s odd
If I run into you at peach I’ll let you take it for a spin
How often should you do your fork oil and do you need to do the seals every time ? I have the 24 TX 300 got 35 hours on it
We recommend every 50ish hrs. As far as seals…. That’s a tough one. If you can do it yourself and you use good parts, no you don’t have to do them every time. As a shop, I rarely touch forks without replacing seals because I don’t want to have to do them again if it leaks right away for some reason.
@@highlandcycles I super appreciate your response! Love the channel your crushing it!
What’s the tool called for the cartridge cap bud?
The one to take it apart? I don’t know but motion pro sells it.
How about drilling a small bleed hole near the top of the hydrostop ?
That would definitely change it.
What ever happened with that Air issue in the cartridge? Did the other Fork have the same issue?..
Wondering if I should pull mine apart just to check that it was bled properly.
