That was an amazing performance of this, the unofficial second national anthem of the State of Israel. A little history, which is so easily forgotten. The song was released on May 15, 1967, for Israel's Independence Day. Those were very bad times. Political tensions between Israel and its neighbors was truly at a boiling point. War was imminent. Massive war supplies were pouring into Egypt, Syria, Jordan from the Soviet Union. There was a world wide embargo on sending arms to the Jewish State. Diplomacy was ongoing, and very one sided. The State Department of the United States had traditionally been highly anti-Semitic, voiced minimal support for Israel. , but out gunned, out manned, the US tried to keep out of situation. The economic situation in Israel could not have been worse. The only good thing about June 1st, 1967 was this song, played on every radio in the land. It was on everyone's lips. War was eminent, Jerusalem had been divided for 20 years, and if Israel was lucky, a nation of about 2 million people, Jewish deaths would only be around 50,000. There weren't enough graves for all the soldiers expected to be killed in the onslaught. Every public park in Israel was consecrated at Jewish Cemeteries. The Second, and Final Holocaust was upon us. Israel created in 1948 was about to be destroyed and burned within days, and the world really didn't care. The Six Day War lasted from June 5, through Jun 10. 21 days after the song was released, two days after the war began, Jerusalem was reunited under Jewish rule, never to be divided again. We anticipated annihilation. We achieved nothing less than a miracle. Now please replay this song and listen to those words!
