I do love that formed concrete, but I feel like grabbing a rough scrubbing brush and giving it all a good vigorous clean. That darkened debris left over by trees and southern light that moisture attracts reminds me of plaque on a good set of teeth.
Churchill house- My Dad worked there on a short term secondment back in the '70s. We had one car, so Mum had to pick him up after work probably for Friday late night shopping in Civic, although he did often ride his bike from deepest darkest Belconnen. I've only been in there once to sign a contract for work when we were employing a contractor. Thanks for sharing these old brutalist buildings in a better light, it's really opened my eyes to them.
As someone who is just entering the architectural game I really appreciate you guys putting all of this material out there for free. Love the banter between you two, especially when its surrounded by special instances of architecture. Cheers from Canada, keep it up!
Thanks. This is mild bantering. You should see the stupidity we get up to.
50 Years on and buildings such as this still invoke in me an excitement and anticipation in the possibilities of the future, creating the space and platform for this future to unfold.
Haven't finished watching but me likey the first few minutes 🙌
Watched it all yet? It’s only 8 mins this time
Loving these videos of Canberra for 2 reasons. The b rolls are next level and I’m feeling so inspired. Second I have never learnt so much about Canberra. Thank you as usual for your awesome videos! 🙌🙌🙌
Thanks Tara. As usual.
I'm so glad to see this building coming back to life, it's one of my favourite buildings on Northbourne and it's looked so lonely for a few years now.
Super good editing this video!
Cheers
Love the Vloggish style intro! editing is superb and those brolls are just so well done. The building itself is amazing too with so much attention to details. lowkey thought there would be a part of andrew just saying "are we there yet" lol
You know him too well
As always, thanks a lot
Cheers
Nice one. And a great building to visit. Can't wait til I get to Australia 🌏. Appreciate the creative shots. Like camera on the windshield wiper.
Thanks. Lots of little strange cameras I have. Good to put them to use.
Another introduction to a previously unknown building. Thanks.
Great editing Kevin, love the change and a great walk-through too. I love the way that the details described inform people about the unique qualities of these 'boring, brutalist buildings' as I have heard them described more often that I would like.
Thanks. Yes this building is quite forgotten
Hey, good work!
The introductory part looks different, it´s like a movie! I loved it.
And the building is indeed awesome. Seems like Robin Boyd is such an interesting architect. Walsh House is amazing and this Churchill House (which is not a house, thanks Kevin for clarifying this to me) is such an interesting piece, full of amazing details.
As always, thanks for the ride!
Great video! I love the excitement. I'm going to have to go explore the building myself. Hope to see you guys in Canberra again soon!
Thanks for your help
Excellent video as always! A wonderful piece of Canberra architecture you guys should do an episode on is the Cumming's design Bus Shelters
We did snippet on it already in the Canberra intro episode
Now I'm very curious about the light inside this building:)
Wonderful editing Kev. Great work!
Cheers. Making you look good and as if I am complaining all the time.
"Handcrafted building" right down to the cast bike parking wow. Another stellar building, thanks guys!
Thanks for watching and commenting
Yeah, it's not the only building in Canberra that had them. Quite common around the place in the 70s.
Thanks, again Kevin and Andrew for the depth in this video. Would you both be able to do a short segment, perhaps even within one of your episodes, on the purpose of architecture? It seems evident in terms of improving human experience, but I wonder if that is the best way to articulate it? Although it could be argued that I'm missing something, or even that this is not the best way to frame that question. I wonder what you both think.
We have talked a bit about it in the Architecture vs Building episode.
You guys gotta check out Callam Offices! A John Andrews special!
Yes that was on the list but we ran out of time.
@@Archimarathon Shame :'(
If you can get permission from Defence, check out Campbell Park too. That is Brutalism to the nth degree! I love it!
thankyou- thats great.
❤❤❤❤❤❤
What a shame you didn't reach out to the owners of this building. My husband would have happily shown you around inside and explained why the building was never dit for purpose.
ITALIAN concreters had to much vino for smoko
timber boards don't line up and some are vertical :)
yes is a lost art and now we have modern forms and props and speed
