An interesting thing to note in regards to what you said about Conquest is that it is revealed that the Wars waged by the golden order we're not anything unique. What I'm referring to specifically is an ice dragon that you can fight on the mountain top of the Giants, it's item description reads that Mountain this used to be the home of the ice dragon but then the fire Giants came in and drove them out before attempting to cover-up their existence. The history of the land in between is filled with power-hungry Lord's disposing other power-hungry Lords while using the logic of feudalism to justify their actions. In other words the golden order was simply following in the footsteps of its predecessors,
So, in the game, the Crucible Knights use armor and weapons made out of "red gold", which is said to have been the original/primordial form of gold before the Golden Order somehow removed the red hue. This is actually _sort of_ true to history: In ancient times, the techniques for smelting gold ore were a bit crude and often some amounts of copper could get mixed in by accident, giving the gold a more reddish color. This is why the writers of the ancient world sometimes describe gold as "red." ...That has nothing to do with what this video is about, I just think it's a really cool little detail.
Love these more structured video essays that discuss this game. FromSoftware absoluely nails how we interpret historical events and how cultures change/are perceived over time. The Lands Between are oozing with archeological/anthropological hints and mystery and they designed the world's geology and biomes to reflect that kind of storytelling. There is so much beauty in such an ugly geopolitical landscape.
The great tree referenced can be found dead Ansel river guarded by a crucible knight this tree existed before the erdtree we see in game and it doesn't say how but this first great tree was somehow destroyed by the arrival of the the erdtree/greater will
It should be noted that the Haligtree was Miquella's attempt to make his own Erdtree, and while it ultimately failed it did get very close. So it's pretty clear that the Edtree isn't unique and that different versions could exist or have existed.
@@RelativelyBest kinda been proven now by tarnished archaeologist that the great tree and urd tree and the same the great tree just came first so I guess my original statement is incorrect
Incidentally i would say that the fromsoft games are less difficult than very convincing difficulty simulators. Intimidating but there are always ways around the harder bits, if you go looking
Thanks for making this video! I do tend to find myself disengaging with the narratives in FromSoft games, mostly because they don't require a strong understanding in order to place the player's actions in context. These analyses are a good reminder for me to pay more attention to both framing and the historical backgrounds of the media I consume.
23:00 The Law of Regression reminds me most of Aristotle's description of elements. Same idea, things want to return to their base forms in nature. Said nature has a hiearchy, with rocks on the bottom. Rocks fall to the earth because the earth is made of rock. Water floats over rocks, so naturally they must be higher on the hierarchy. Air floats on water, and bubbles rise out of water, so that's the next step up. Fire must be the highest, since it rises even above the normal air, and is difficult to keep in one place. It's interesting to see how Aristotle was putting his limited scientific observations to use! He wasn't always right, but he did have an answer for everything. Unfortunately that includes "why women are lesser beings" and "why it's ethical actually to own slaves."
Kinda weird that the working class is depicted the same as any other enemy in this game though I guess from your character's perspective that makes sense.

I'm so glad that Aurelia made an appearance! A wonderful shield and companion from the series!
I put it in the game just for you :)

Awesome video! Also, I throughly enjoyed the gameplay footage of cleanrot knights getting totally dunked on in Elphael.
Awesome! i caught one of your early streams! it was rad!

i cry fraud! there is no Robotnik Lore video in the side panel
Exactly what I’ve been looking for. Well done!

I love when history and fantasy come together
