I can't believe it's the end of Mass Effect 2 Thank you so much to everybody who joined me on this journey. If you have any recommendations on what I can read/watch before playing Mass Effect 3, let me know below! I have the three books (Revelation, Ascension and Retribution) as well as the comics, but I'm a bit scared if there are spoilers for Mass Effect 3 in them! I also have heard about the _Mass Effect: Paragon Lost_ movie, which I think would be cool to all watch together on our Discord server sometime next week maybe? Let me know what you think!

Personally I do not think you should watch Paragon Lost before ME3. Timeline wise it overlaps ME2 so no story spoilers for ME3 so it's not a problem if you do want to. However, you will meet a character from that film in ME3 and in my opinion its better to learn their story as Shepard does. Otherwise you as player will know more about them than Shepard and that might affect how you treat them RP wise.
Its been a fun ride but I'm done with the channel till your back with mass effect three enjoy life. I wish you nothing but the best.

The ending of this dlc is the main reason I think it should be saved for the end. It would be weird for Shepard to destroy a relay, an entire colony, and then just go walk around Ilium or Omega like nothing happened.
“Aww, poor overworked slavers”. Don’t get Shepard started on Batarians lol
The fact that they made the colony Batarian is just so problematic for me. Shephard has to sacrifice a colony but the players shouldn't feel that bad so let's make them Batarian. Imagine if this was a human colony, that wouldn't be acceptable. But Batarians, who cares about them, right?

finishing the object rho fight on first attempt without dying is super impressive! most fall during the waves, which has the same result as finishing but not as satisfying lol
Shepard is a badass in battle, as Wrex ("of course you are with Shepard, how could he be alive) Grunt (Shepard is my Battlemaster, she has no equal) and Samara (you are an artist on the battlefield) -among others, have testified to. If anyone, Shepard can withstand such an onslaught.
She is playing on Veteran, and the LE dialed down the difficulty a lot. It's even harder in the OG trilogy. Still, a good fight.
You really took us on a journey and managed to make it feel like experiencing the games for the first time again. Can't wait for ME3!
It'll be hard waiting for Mass Effect 3, but the wait will be worth it.

My recommendations for ME3 is just about the shore leave DLC: you get the most content out of it if done just before the point of no return. It's obviously stated that it's the point of no return.
Also the map will tell you where your crew mates are on the ship and on the other main area. They move a lot around and some cool interactions are easy to miss.

Just want to say that your playthrough of the Mass Effect series is magnificent! ✨Even though I completed this trilogy like 20+ times and have roughly more than 3000 hours in it (yeah, I know, I'm okay 😅) I still enjoyed each episode so much and was really invested in yours and Persephone's journey 😊. The atmosphere, immersion, those true reactions and emotions are amazing!! I've wathed all episodes and was eagerly waiting for the each one to come out, it's easily the best playthrough I've ever watched on UA-cam so far! 🤩
Also a special thanks for sharing all of your thoughts and opinions, reading the codex and hypothesising on everything, it feels so good and adds a depth to the whole experience. Hope you'll really enjoy ME3, can't wait to see everything.
Since you asked about the recommendations without spoilers I think that I can share one - ME3 has a bit different way with dialogs, so I think you won't regret checking up on everyone after litteraly each mission (Yeah, it might sound a bit tedious, but I think it's totally worth it in terms of immersion and doesn't take much time).
Overall just a big thank you for being so awesome and creating a great content for us all, looking forward to see all of ME3 and Andromeda on the channel!

It's always bittersweet coming to the end of a playthrough, especially for a game/series I love this much. A wonderful finish! And I’m super impressed you got a no-casualty run on your first try!! Good job paying attention to detail and you even unknowingly made the “best” choice to send Moridin back with the crew so he doesn’t die to RNG, lol.
As for ME3 prep, I think others have said, but you can go to hub planets and back to the ship to get other dialogs you may be missing. I know Legion has more to say, and maybe Thane.
Also, it is generally recommended to do the ME3 “Citadel” DLC last thing before heading to the final story mission.

Congrats on completing ME2! You're right about this one, you cannot avoid destroying the system or save the Batarians. It feels odd compared to the rest of the game, but worth remembering the context that this DLC is designed to connect ME2 to ME3 so it has to force some key things.
Fun fact! You often asked why you're not on a timer in this mission. You absolutely were, the Arrival timer can run out, worth looking on UA-cam to see the mini-cutscene.

Hey Jaz! Loved every single bit of both playthroughs. I really like how meticulous you're, and the way you piece things together so quick it's... i bet is that nurse brain you have! As always, i tend to write in the last episode because i feel spoiling anything, but this i didn't had anythings to "point at" or say "hey, i would've done that differently". Every time i see a playthrough of ME, i tend to get really angry , or really happy , because of choices that people make or because they don't pay atention, but for the first time, since i played the game back in the day, i cried both times that you ended the series. IN A GOOD WAY OF COURSE. I think that might be seeing you dressed as different characters, and the reasoning behind, and the choises, i don't know, it felt like i was a kid watching the end of a show that i loved so much, and i cried like a dumb both times.
I hope you have a blast with the last ME, and i'll wait for your uploads, i suppose by the end of October (hope/fingers crossed). In the meantime, i'll keep enjoying BG and the uploads you bring.

I always figured the Cerberus outfit was the armor undergarments. You put it on every time you put your armor on. So when they took your armor off, you had the Cerberus outfit on underneath.

A couple things you seem to have missed:
Not all Batarians are slavers, terrorists, or criminals. In fact, the vast majority are not. These Batarians are part of the Batarian government protecting their colony of 300,000 innocent Batarian civilians. From their perspective, you are the terrorist.
Yes, Shepard knows the reapers are coming, she has known that for over two years, but she has no idea when or where the reapers will arrive. It could be anywhere in the next couple decades, or even centuries, and she has no way of finding out. She is understandably surprised to be provided with the where and when of their arrival, especially since the answer is here and now.
There was 2 days and 3 hours on the clock, then you were sedated for over two days. When you looked at the clock again, it read just under two hours remaining. Bummer that you missed that, since that really adds a lot of tension to the mission.

The relay trying to launch an asteroid like "boss wtf is this...I quit" 😂😂
If you bring up the weapon or skill wheel, it shows a mini map in the lower right. The red dots (or triangles) are the enemy locations in relation to you. It helps, especially if you are getting surrounded. ME3 will be the same as ME2 in this aspect.
The one part I did not care for in the dlc was the fight around the artifact. No matter what you do, you end up on the table with little time left and you do not get a reward for surviving the fight. Unless I really want to release some aggression, I just let them 'kill' me. It does not force a reload for that, in that 1 fight.
I've never seen anyone last till the end of that room, didnt even know that's what happens when it fully charges
Arrival's combat environments are somewhat awkward because they are much closer to Mass Effect 3's arenas. This was probably to further emphasize the link between the two games. but it also has an unfortunate side effect of feeling out of place for the game, because they actually are.
Amazing series Whimsy; SO glad you enjoyed this game! Eagerly looking forward to Mass Effect 3! One recommendation I have is to reset your powers for Shepard and save, bringing that file to ME3. That will give you more flexibility once you enter gameplay because the power system is expanded in the next game.

Engineer is the only class in ME (3) with an unique cutscene/interupt.
*technically* there is a timer, but it gives so much wiggle room that I’ve never seen anyone use it up. The countdown to arrival is a legitimate countdown and you will fail the mission if it reaches zero (there’s even a lil cinematic)
It is fine to read the books before ME3. I havent read the comics. But I do hope that you continue with the engineer class. The way you play makes me reconsider using it. (I played as Vanguard, Sentinel and Adept)

Not sure if anyone mentioned this, but if you wait for that timer to expire on Arrival DLC some visions will pop up and get a game over screen, you can see a video on it. It's kind of a cool detail I think.
If you're curious at all I would recommend watching a video of the bad ending for the suicide mission, and/or looking up this flowchart of all the various outcomes for the suicide mission.
Loved the playthrough, can't wait for Mass Effect 3, and completely agree with your decision to play it all the way through and then upload it.

Dr Kenson - forever unlevelled.
She is a companion/squad member gained mid mission, and thus she has A LOT of unspent skill points. Some characters you only have one chance at levelling.
So if you see a character with only one ability in ME3 - you know he/she has a lot of points to spend.

While Mass Effect 2 was both my introduction to the series and RPGs as a whole... I love Mass Effect 3. ME2 is built better admittedly but ME3 is just... my favorite. My favorite. I cannot wait for you to experience this. No stone left unturned.
I'm sure your mods will tell you, but for the DLC in ME3, wait to play the "Citadel" DLC until right before the end. There's just no other way. Trust :p
Although I'm eager for your ME3 playtrhough, I totaly agree with you. Avoid any spoilers. It's an emotional roller coaster. It has to be genuine.

I swear, in the Mass Effect universe it's the furniture and crate makers that are the real heroes. Their stuff is impervious to all damage.
Hackett is one of my favorite non-squad supporting characters, along with Anderson and Joker.

In answer to your question about E.D.I.'s travel advisory, if it was added on after Joker had unshackled her or if it's always been present, it's the latter of the two
Even if you hadn't saved this mission for last and played it earlier, EDI would've still had that travel advisoryin place

Whimsy, you should take a minute to check out the cutscene that plays when your arrival countdown timer reaches 0. A lot of people play the game and never end up seeing what happens
BTW, Whimsy: Mass Effect:Revalation is basically centered around Anderson when he was a Spectre candidate, it just goes more in-depth

42:45 before LE, getting to the end on a certain difficulty gave an achievement. It no longer does. Now it's just bragging rights. "Dying" before the end has the same outcome.
Lol there was a timer it was just a 2 hour long one lol if it runs out you get a game over, also this mission was a lives of the few verses the lives of the many, sometimes you're unable to save everyone even if you want too

You are right, this DLC is really hard. It took me like 20 attempts to pass through the Object Roo room on Instanity (I know it can be skipped, but achievment..).

I agree totally about ME2's gameplay. I've beaten the other two Mass Effect games on Insanity difficulty, but never played ME2 above Normal because I don't want to engage with the mechanics that deeply or retry battles multiple times.
Gavorn was on Omega, his job seemed to be 'population control" of the vorcha. He's a very minor character.

Fun fact: If the timer runs out, the reapers will actually arrive and you get a vision of the reapers winning, along with a "game over".
One thing I find a bit sad about the DLCs in ME2: They didn't bring back the other voice actors for your crew. It feels most glaring in Overlord, where there could have been some interesting conversation about what happened with Daniel. But even in Arrival, Joker or EDI surely should have something to say when fleeing from the exploding Mass Relay.
As far as I'm aware, there aren't too many spoilers in the books, but it's been a while. I would still play ME3 first though. The three games are Shepard's story, the books are spinoffs. Interesting for sure, but can detract from the main story. Your choice though. Anyway, off to ME3. No need to prepare anything other than time and dedication ;)
Different classes have different gameplay. It's always a little stiff, but other classes have solutions to the movility problem. Infiltrators can turn invisible for a few seconds, giving them time to get out of the way of the enemies. Vanguards can teleport to different enemies and recharge their shields with their charge ability, which makes them very dynamic and fun to play, high risk-high reward.
I barely played with the other classes, I find them boring and tedious.
Soldier is fucking great; I prefer Infiltrator, but Soldier is my 2nd fav. He has bullet-time, which is really useful.
In ME1, "adrenaline" just resets your skills, and I don't really use them, so it's useless. I still have a ton of fun with soldier in ME1 though, but in ME2 they re-work the skill so it's your base skill, and it actually is very useful. Functionally, it works not all that different from Infiltrator's tactical cloak, I think, in that you can use it pretty liberally; find cover, use it and take out one enemy, cover while it re-charges for a few seconds, then use it again and repeat.
I thought Biotic was a fucking BLAST in ME1 - I normally hate mage-type classes, but it was fantastic. But the way it's nerfed in ME2, it was unplayable IMO (shortly after Freedom's Progress - or w/e it's called, something like that - I re-imported and just made that Shepard a Vanguard. Head canon: Shepard remained a Biotic but was more formidable in combat after the events of ME1).
Sentinel in ME2 had overload and throw, the best Biotic and Tech powers, plus combat armor... so I found it relatively lackluster in ME1, but I did it so I could try out how it works in ME2. Too early to tell, but in theory I like the skillset.
Garus has new dialogue after you invite him up. Did you talk to him after this?

As for ME3, I wouldn't mind if you decided to finish the game before uploading your playthrough. If it means you can have the best experience while playing, then I don't mind waiting a little longer
If you can, I would recommend watching Mass Effect: Paragon Lost before starting ME3. The movie takes place at the same time as ME2 and introduces one of the characters you'll meet in the upcoming game. The events of the movie will also be referenced in ME3
Also, you might have to rework your character a bit since there were import issues with the models from previous games. Nothing too dramatic but just to let you know
And lastly : just have fun ! After all, you only have one chance to experience this journey for the first time :)

Although I can say that the movie would be a spoiler for ME2 if you hadn't played the game yet. But since you've finished it, the movie is more of an introduction for the character and gives context to his actions and personality in ME3 :)

Nice, not everyone makes it through the whole fight at Object Rho (if they take you down you wake up locked up anyway). Must say, on insanity this is one of a few fights in whole ME that can be really challenging. Garrus calibrated you well!
Edit: Yeah, the destruction of batarian system is scripted. If its any satisfaction, you could not have done anything better than you have :)
Hey Whimsy just a heads up, I don't know if you already know or not, but the 4th Mass Effect book called "Deception" you don't have to read. As a matter of fact, most Mass Effect fans will argue against it. There was a huge controversy over the book years ago and the book itself is apparently terrible. I highly recommend reading Revelation, Ascension, and Retribution in that order. As another recommendation, buy 'The Art of the Mass Effect Trilogy: Expanded Edition'. It's amazing.

New here. But I can speak from experience, how tough the Rho Object battle was. Especially on Insanity Difficulty. It took me an hour of trying to get it done. I played on the OG with DLCs. But still, not choosing the Widow Sniper Rifle was a disadvantage. Because I prefered up close battle and chose the Revenant Assault Rifle. And yes, I played as Soldier. 😅😅
Yeah, it took me easily over half a fucking hour. I wonder if they nerfed it (like they did so many other things) in LE.
I also played as a soldier with the Revenant.
My favorite class is probably Infiltrator - I didn't play Arrival with him because FUCK Arrival (I'm not that fucking stupid, fuck you game)... I grabbed Assault Rifles with him because the Viper is so nice with its extra ammo; I didn't want to grab the Widow and find out it had, like, 1 round per mag and 10 rounds total or something, and I didn't save before making that choice and I didn't want to bother re-starting the mission to re-load.
What I ended up doing was doing a SECOND playthrough with him - for reasons that aren't important - and I thought I'd collect the Widow the 2nd time around. But the game doesn't give you a 2nd upgrade, which I think is fucking horseshit. I'm still heated about it.
Point is... you think the Widow is a significant upgrade on the Viper? I assume the damage is much better, of course, but I'll take 80% damage if it comes with 4x ammo; how's the Widow's ammo?

Well. Widow probably has the same ammo capacity. My big bro used it only, on easier Difficulties. Tho I had troubles with the Revenant, I found it great for close combat. Plus, I chose the Adrenaline Rush upgrade, which made time more slower, for more precise shooting. As for shotguns, I always preferred to use the Geth Plasma Shotgun, because of it's chargeable shooting capeability.

Yeah, the Revenant was good, but I was underwhelmed by it; I expected it to be awesome and it was only a moderate upgrade... and as you say, much more at close range than long.
I never ever even try Shotguns; shotguns suck ass in ME. I may be poisoned by how bad they were, how much I hated them, in ME1. I may not have given them a fair shake in ME2. But I mostly just use the assault rifle and/or sniper rifle, so I never felt the loss.
Although I guess you're saying that, since you did use shotgun in tighter quarters, you found the Revenant more underwhelming even than I did... bummer.

No worries. Widow has great damage, but you have to aim or you get screwed. Many players I saw with Soldier on Insanity took the Widow and used it with the Mattock in Mass Effect 2. Tho in Mass Effect 3, I used Geth Pulse Rifle and Geth Plasma Shotgun for a good portion, after Rannoch Arc. And yes, I was playing majorly as Paragon.

The thing is, if you have a sniper rifle that instant kills *anyone*, but you only have, say, 12 rounds, you can only kill 12 people. Vs something like the viper, that maybe takes 2 or 3 but with... what is it, 42? You can kill between 14-21 at that rate. Which is why I largely prize the viper so highly (again, knowing only that the Widow surely was powerful but without knowing its ammo capacity).
Give me 6 rounds in a mag, 2 shots to kill, and I can kill 3 people quickly and efficiently before reloading. I don't like to expose myself *too* long, but 1 shot/kill then reload is a bit too slow going.

Lack of sex scene probably is explained that BioWare landed itself in hot water with mass effect 1, especially since Liara happened to be same sex romance option (kinda, Asari don't really see it that way). Seriously, media circus around it was such that it reminded me moral panic around comics by Fredric Wertham, who claimed Batman was turning kids gay(to oversimplify) or 1993 senate hearings over video games. BioWare had some inkling what was coming, as Kaidan was supposed to be same-sex option for me1 romance (which only materialized in Me3) but he was vetoed by desing team.
But I doubt that even the game team anticipated that they would get their game be called "rape simulator" by the fox news.
Anyways said treatment unfortunately affected somewhat to the games content. Same sex romance options were gone from Me2 (I'm under the impression that Tali and Jack were supposed to be that for women while Jacob and possibly Thane were supposed to serve that for men). This kinda weird as Dragon Age, another best selling bioware game franchise, managed to have same sex romances from troughout the 1st, 2nd and 3rd game....and no one said anything.

Well, finished I think the overall best game in the series. ME1 is better in some aspects, ME3 better in others, but ME2 is the best overall package. I hope you're already enjoying ME3.
While Shepard does seem a bit gullible for believing Kenson had the situation secure, I give her leeway since she'd be overwhelmed by the possibility of an entire base of people believing her about the Reapers.
