I love THIS Jason Isbell. I miss him. Gritty, rough around the edges, hung over, funny but masking the sadness. This is the Isbell that I fell in love with (musically). Don't get me wrong, I am happy he got his life together, i.e., sober, married, kids. But this certain fairy-dusted magic is gone in JI version 2.
Holy shit. This is special.

Yep. He was the 400 Unit guitarist before Sadler joined. He is the guy on the Here We Rest album.
