Not until after Shadow of the Erdtree; I've never maxed a FromSoft game before, yet I feel a strong desire to max out Elden Ring. I'm almost to level 500, and have made the determination to go for it. I don't think I've ever desired to max a game out; if I have, the desire has not been as as strong as Elden Ring.
Ill say this now cause I just saw it, I'd want 60 in Vigor, Mind and Endurance cause that's their softcap, meaning I would need to get to level 501, I think
@AllisterNovum getting endurance to 99 isn't bad cause of the equip load. I did it recently just so I can maintain light rolling on most builds. Not to jam pack every weapon I can like in the video.
@@kondek420 Yep, Endurance is the first stat I don't mind maxing out because you the higher equip load makes it easier to get the light roll and having a bit more stamina. You can easily wear the heaviest loadout pretty much and still have a medium roll with wearing one of the talismans, Erdtree's Favor (+1 or +2), Arsenal Charm, or Great Jar's Arsenal. It also allowed some of my lighter weight medium roll builds to actually turn into a light roll.
i remember talking to a friend in highschool and they tried to brag about being max level in dark souls 3. and everyone listening just sat there instead of thinking they were good most of us thought "you needed to be max level to beat the game?"
To me, I only level up a bit more than the cap points such as status resist to trade some hits against banished knight on castle sol because one of them was almost really tanky with OP ash of war that doesn’t even exist to find it
You know it's kinda funny because in a lot of other multiplayer RPGs, being high level is kind of a big thing. It's funny how in these Fromsoft games, where whether and how you level is pretty optional, it's not so much.
Probably a carryover from other games. When you're playing WoW, the strongest player is the guy in the glowing armor wielding sacred weapons and who has the biggest numbers. In Elden Ring, the strongest player is the dude who can kill a god while bereft of anything but a club. One game considers gear to be a mark of skill, whereas the other measures skill by how much can be accomplished using the least.
Thing I learned playing D&D 2nd and 3rd edition. If you see a dude taking up the particle effects budget, he's probably bad, but if there's some hobo looking motherfucker about 15 feet behind him cackling like a lunatic, you should probably deal with that wretch first, because he's clearly the more dangerous problem.
@@Sarah-yh4sg gear has item levels, there are gear checks. skilled players prog at bare minimum item level on the launch of a new raids maximum difficulty, while bad players use other systems to farm out maximum item level to kill lower difficulty bosses before they can do any mechanics.

I don't really understand how anyone could argue that levelling is indicative of skill in a game like elden ring where hours of mindless farming is the only reasonable way to get past like level 250 legit
ironically the fastest way to level up past 250 ish is to get invaded alot and kill them, not to mention they suck so its pretty easy and id say i blow at PvP so
@@KarmaMate How many souls does a level 250 player drop? Because I can farm 1.2 million runes (at NG+1) in exactly 3 minutes. And level 150 players only drop about 8k runes, I can't see 250s dropping the several million that would be required for it to be able to compete with actual farming. Mind you I dont have a single character over 150, most of my characters are 120-130 for the sake of PvP meta. The only reason the one I'm playing is as high as it is, is because it was my day 1 character and the community originally decided on RL145-150 for PvP Meta, but then one youtuber (I think it was Oroboros?) made a video saying it should be 120, and everyone was just like "oh well if he says so, fuck everyone that's already at 150." xD TLDR of rant: I've never leveled anywhere close to 250 so I have no idea what the rune drops are, but I find it hard to imagine it beats farming.
@@dokuujin1851 Ik this is a few days old but thought I'd drop in with the info that PvP rune drops are a % of the runes required for the previous level. Hosts gain 15% of the cost from killing an invader and since level costs are exponential in Elden Ring the difference between a level 150 and 250 would be quite substantial. For this specific example, a level 150 invader would give the host 23,052 runes when killed where as a level 250 invader would give 80,198. Invaders only gain 4% of the level cost on killing phantoms or even the host. As for the actual fastest way to gain runes from multiplayer, I'd say it's to spec into comet azur 1 shot build and just plop your summon sign in front of mohgs boss door. 120k every kill and each kill will only take you a couple minutes at most with most of that time being spent in loading screens. If you level up higher to a point of getting summoned for NG+ you get more runes for each kill with no extra effort. This is also a great Rune Arc farm.
Honestly, I will just farm mindlessly if I am in a call with friends, or in a dnd session. It has made me appreciate the legit people that get past 300. They had to put some work into it. Or, you know... cheat. XD
Not a crutch in their current ng level that’s why they’re always summoned to low lvl carries. Usually they just try to trade hits rather than using tactics/strategy…which is why my lvl 1 invader stocks up on over 350k runes per kill on them.

I don’t have a max level or see the use for one because the effort to make one isn’t worth the grind. I can see gaining max stam or fp could be beneficial, but taking hits is still a skill issue that most max level players aren’t capable of learning.
Best weapons for max level are usually Madness weapons. They tend to have four out of five scalings, this includes incantation seals. It's fitting for anyone insane enough to farm to max level to get better usage from frenzy.
That's because lower leveled players have fewer options which takes out the guess work in combat, there's only so many weapons available for use at lower levels so your locked into one archetype, no hybrid builds. Once they see your equapiment you can be read like a book at low levels.

My proudest achievement in a FromSoft game was beating Bloodborne's The Old Hunters DLC at lvl118 on NG+1 as I didn't want to make a new character, took me a few days but I beat Orphan of Kos first try when I finally got to him while seeing many people struggle on him. Never really saw the point of getting to max level on any of the games unless I was doing trolling builds.
I'm a DS2 PvPer, and it's fascinating to see that the same exact things that happen in DS2 happen in ER. Max level poopwalking Havel monsters (why use Flynns Ring when 838 makes you feel so powerful), Sacred Oath, Sunlight Blade, the works. I do wish you had touched a bit on why most PvP enthusiasts *don't* play at max level, such as having the ability to make build decisions. Good video.
I don't pvp ever, it's just not my cup of tea because I believe I would lack the skill to do so, but despite never having entered the colosseum I would never in a million years think SPIRIT SUMMONS would be a part of it 😂
@@ObeyCamp It's one of the many categories. If you go in the arena you will see 1v1 no summons, 1v1 with summons, 3v3 and free for all, maybe even more categories I'm forgetting.
My characters are all 125 because I figured that would mean other players like me have to actually choose a build and I can understand who I am fighting
@@iggytheincubus Elden Ring has higher soft caps than previous "Souls" games and about level 150 would be the rune level you can expect for a "complete" build. Dark souls 1 and 3 soul levels were about 120-125, Dark souls 2 soul level were about 150-200.
Why do people say 125 or 130 is the meta for PVP? I’ve been trying to figure this out for awhile. It’s my first from soft game and I went mage so there’s pretty high stat investments. I only just hit the soft cap damage with 80 intelligence and I’m already level 140 I believe. Was kinda upset just in case I ever decide to get around to PVP and accidentally locked myself out of PvP by leveling or something
@@monhi64 I don't invade or focus on PvP so I doubt I'm the best person to say, but I'll give it a go as I have played DS3 and Bloodborne before. Basically the community has the community council (CC) of streamers/influencers/etc and they all take turns voting. It happens with pretty much every Fromsoft game where there is some internal debate over what level should be 'meta' and where we all say to stop leveling if you want to have access to the conglomerate of players who want to invade/1v1. Usually argument for higher levels is that it lets you have a more 'complete' build but advocates for lower say it's the truest test of who is able to squeeze the most out of their levels and stat points. So in short, I don't believe you have though I also don't know the current numbers of people who pvp within the ranges. I think Elden Ring is one of the first Fromsoft games where the debate became inconclusive. the best thing about having all stats around 60 or 80 is being able to use anything and everything at maximum efficiency, which is a lot of fun at ng+7. deaths poker + malikeths black blade + scarlett aeonia into the fire giants foot is just fun to watch

Max level only makes sense for PvE but only until you reach the soft cap. A vigor of 60 to a vigor of 99 makes barely any difference. For PvP this is pointless
Nah even for PvE it's nonsense. You need 458 millions to go to level 501 and have the hard cap in everything. Then you need 1.235 BILLIONS to go to 713. And as you say stats after the hard cap are... meh. Only the carry load past the hard cap is useful
Even in PvE it's useless, even if you want to max dmg you need STR/FAI/INT/DEX/ARC 99 (one of those or 2/3) then you need some END/VIG/MIND and you still end up with level 400-500 max level does absolutely nothing
I think the entire point is that in PVE specifically, going for the highest NG+ possible will take you beyond soft caps and lead to the highest skill bossfights possible... as for pvp it's all irrelevant
Same here, I have a character that’s maxed out because as I play through NG+ I can try any type of weapon/skill/spell etc. I have another character that stays at a lower level, but my max character is tons of fun as I like to switch up constantly. Because I can.
That’s why I enjoy making new character and make a new build. Not only do you learn better at pvp at being a lower level, learning how to manage ur stats and gear is way more fun then just equipping everything and spamming everything. I just switch my characters

I’m like level 400, but I’ve also done a few challenge runs with a friend on Ng+7+ like an all bow run, torch only, etc. I’m as high level as I am because I didn’t want to have to reroll my stats every time I felt like using a new weapon, or just trying one. I rarely use buffs for boss fights because I feel like it makes them unfairly easy. The correlation between level and skill is just a result of playstyle combined with playtime. Regardless of how you end up playing though, just enjoy the game. It’s a masterpiece
I have a character level 225 at ng+7 and stopped (since that's when the new game plus scaling ends and i wanted to keep it as a trophy character), purely just beating the game over and over (also let my brother do one run on the cheesiest build I could do for him). People who genuinely get involved in things like bragging about levels or gatekeeping what builds 'should' be played aren't real gamers, they just want to have control over everything they do including the only game they may be good at/passionate about.
Mystery weapon is either axe of Godfrey or watchdogs staff cuz they got the same phy and DMG negation when blocking :quick edit the mystery weapon could also be rotten staff.
DS1 was my first souls so I kept around level 120 ever since then I aim to keep my builds at that level. Elden Ring was the first where I went to level 150 and it felt weird :D
Since the game is longer and the late game areas are really though its only natural to reach 130~180... In Ds1 and Ds3 i beat the game at SL90~100, in ER i had to reach RL150 to even try beating radagon xD
The biggest tip i found for any souls game combat in pvp years ago is to wait just a fraction of a second longer before you feel like you want to press right bumper. that way you will dismiss your oponents i frames and hit them at the end of a roll. Or you might want to roll but you are being too pre-emptive and end up getting caught yourself. Just slow down a bit and delay your inputs, and you'll start mind fucking everyone you fight
Me being lvl 250 Vagabond, because I really wanted that 80 dex/fth, 60 vgr, 38mind, 20str for bolt of gransax, saw I was already at 200 something, said F it we ball and dumped 30 in endurance and 25 str
I mean, I went the whole hog to 713. PvP is interesting because the good players swap it up like crazy mid fight. I will say I do regret going there though, I should have stayed at 125.
The highest level I have on a character is about 400 lvl which I got to mostly through the runes gained through invasions you wouldn't believe the amount of times I've tricked entire gank squads into jumping into the bottomless pit near the 1st step or the amount of players that don't know you can't parry a 2 handed colossal weapon.

If you want to do CoOp AND invade, like I do, you gotta find the Stakes of Marika everywhere - and simply going around to poke them all is I shit you not a 30+ hour endeavor if you're at least making things tolerable by doing multiplayer while you do it.

I do agree though that having a level 300+ character is nice. I have one thats like 313 and than another thats 150 for pvp, and its great. I hope the DLC balances things a bit better so that high level pvp isnt as busted, but its noce having a high level character for testing stuff. I hate having to re stat my character just to use a weapon that is already adjacent to my build

The benefit is being able to use absolutely any build you want and experiment with any spells or weapons your little heart desires. The variety available to you is incredible. At least for PvE that is.

Some truly amazing specimens in the Elden Ring community. I have encountered a "person" (I am almost sure it was an actual human being) desperately trying to convince me that I have a skill issue by refusing to use the Mimic Tear, because I "don't know how to use game mechanics". I triple checked with them if they are merely trolling, and three times they confirmed that they're serious.
The thing is, most players who level beyond lvl 250 or so have got there by rune farming, if they didn't take one of the more underhanded routes and used save editors or, horror of horrors, actually paid real money to buy runes online. I finally finished the game at lvl 300 and something, and I did it mostly by making the Moghwyn bird fall to its death for probably a full week of real time play. I spent more time at Palace Overlook Ledge-Road than any other location in the game by far, and after I eventually beat the game, I went right back and combined the Moghwyn bird with the Albinauric genocide until I was close to lvl 400 in preparation for the DLC. The point I'm trying to make is, I'm the kind of player whose preferred method of beating soulslikes is to overlevel my character until they're a physical God and then break the difficulty curve over my knee. Also I hate most forms of social interaction so I've always avoided the PvP side of the games. Sure, I've done it once or twice in DS1 and DS2, and I dipped my toes into Eden Ring invasions for about three days a few months back, but I know full well I'd get destroyed by experienced PvP'ers despite my character's high level, because I deliberately don't play the game in a way that develops my skill at the game beyond being all that much better than the average casual player. I'd bet money most max level players are in the same boat as me. The type of person who will grind that high grinds to overpower challenges the same way I do. The fact that doing so means you've played the game longer doesn't mean anything if most of that time was spent tricking giant monster birds into running head first off cliffs. Honestly I'd say the lvl170 PvP crowd will in general be much more proficient at the game because lvl170 is the most competitive level range and people who stay at that level to PvP are doing it more often and at higher skill levels. TL:DR - Having a bigger stick means nothing if you don't know how to swing it like somebody who knows what they're doing.
I like around 120-140 personally. I find it means you will see a large variety of different builds, but players still have to pick and choose what they wanna focus on. If they are a bleed build, they cant spell spam, if they spell spam, they probably have no vigor, etc. I like having high enough stats to use end game gear, but not so high that the only option for winning is to use whatever is objectively optimal

I’m getting to max level using only the runes I pick up from luring invaders (1v1s only). If you can win 90-95% of your fights, it can be a fun/fast way to level up when you’re over lvl 400-500
The main difference between lvl 200 and lvl 713 in my experience is the flexibility. Being able to just swap to any weapon, or try any build I like in a second without having to spend a component (and even worse, time) on respec is a godsend. Now I can enter the DLC, I have the souls, stats and crafting components to upgrade any new weapon I find to max, and test it immediately. I can have fun with every new discovery. I also feel like the balance is pretty great at 99 in all stat NG+7, yes the bonus you get from stats beyond 50 is lower, but it's not negligible either and in NG+6/7 you can actually feel the difficulty increase (while NG+2 through +5 felt almost the same, I speedran through them in 90 minutes each and felt no difference in difficulty), so those additional dmg/health and small resist bonus you get from going to full 99 are actually felt and genuinely help compensating for the difficulty increase in those last two NG+ cycles.. I came back to the game to prepare for the DLC a few days ago and went to kill the bell-bearing hunter in Dragonbarrow yesterday and that asshole one-shotted me even at 99 vigor xD, But I could also kill him pretty quickly, it was a deadly fight in both directions, felt like a dance with the melee setup I'm currently using, I loved it, no health sponges on either side. It's definitely not worth the time spent farming it (60+ hours) as a primary activity, but if you grind while doing something else, it can be fun to then have a max level character. Or you could just make one with a character creator while offline, I didn't because it would always bug me that I used a cheat engine, but it's mostly a single player game, have fun the way you want. And obviously (as if it needed to be said), throwing a wave of light on poor defenseless Albinaurics 15 000 times does not make you more skilled at the game. I mean it makes you better at sending waves of light at the correct timing and angle to maximise xp/hour in this specific location but that's all you're gonna get better at xD By the end of it, I had the technique to murder 13 Albinaurics as efficiently as possible down to a science.
I’m only trying to max out because… well what else am I gonna do? I’ve got a shite load of things done and I REALLY don’t care enough to get every legendary talisman (one if the only trophies I don’t have yet) or whatever else I have. I’ve beaten the game a lot and now I’m just seeing “how far can I push the envelope?”
Honestly I’m lvl 302 and for some reason it’s more difficult to get players to join when I run through any place with the summoning pool like it says they’re unable to join but when I was like lvl 100-150 it was easy to get a join up
Met multiple invaders when helping other players progress through maps like the Haligtree or dungeons. All they do is spam, rivers of blood, Lion Claw or spells. Literally met a mage that only spamed the gravitational rock spells and all i did to counter him was roll through them until he was in melee range and kill him in two hits
What I love most is the fact you have people that are high level, get really cocky and smug, toxic but in reality they are so damn bad its like you are fighting a really bad AI or NPC So you can imagine how good it fells mopping the floor with them fells great
This is a rather cold take; but most people that are semi-"serious" about PVP will generally aim to land their build somewhere between level 40-120 (but there seems to be a decent amount of action up to level 200 in ER specifically). This is to ensure build diversity (in theory anyway, I'm well aware 99.9% of PVP matches will contain META builds...) but this also means that the people that go far beyond these brackets generally won't be fighting good, or even decent, PVP:ers. So in short, these are people that've spent hundreds of hours fighting PVE in NG+infinity (assuming they didn't just cheat their way to max level), and they're mostly fighting people that've done the same. Of course they're going to be clueless in PVP.
i learned today that ranni has bones or can crack bones with her stare due to whenever she looks at the camera a bone cracking appears, which could eighter just be some perverted dude losing focus during pvp and getting bashed
More than pros, is for TRUE afficionados of the series. Grinding than many runes means that you're probably at NG +27 (difficulty is capped at +7 by the way) or even higher. Hats off to these madlads. Whatever way to play pleases one, that's the way to play the game.
I'm a bad player, pvp wise. But I love testing out builds and just playing with friends. This game has such rich potential with how you can mix and match things or takes specific themes. Its why I really enjoy the seamless coop mod, allows me to just have casual fun with friends without having to worry about getting invaded. The added bonus of running around on glitchy torrents is also hilarious.
I think elden ring should have a PvP mode where you select from preselected characters like in the beginning of the game to duel other people in the arena. and make it as fair as possible making for a good challenge.
I would argue that low level invasions are, generally harder than mid to high level for the following reasons 1 options: you get fewer options of weapons and spells particularly if you want to have high vigor 2 level gaps: while you will be generally the same level as the host, their allies are ALWAYS either the same or higher level however i have noticed that it isn't incredibly uncommon for both to be about the same level, you will still never get the possibility that someone is rolling up significantly lower level than you 3 chaos: there is no predicting what low level players will do, rush in? Lure to an ambush? actually let you duel their phantoms 1v1? pretend to let you duel only to jump in when it looks like they are losing? this might be a thing with mid-high level invasions but inexperience breeds bizarre behavior

As someone who is almost maxed, the best part is when you wanna have a different build you can just do it. The "pro" mentality also probably comes from ng+7 difficulty which humbles tf outta you in the dlc
Personally the only reason I want my lvl to be high is to be able to use anything anytime. But no matter how many lvls people have, you have to know how to read others movements, mechanics timing. Sometimes literally expect the unexpected, which no amount of lvls will help you with

Did I forget to say,.... so for helping people for free is awesome Over 200 and counting. I am a elden god!!!! It takes 3 people to even have a chance of killing me.
I thought I was bad. Till I invaded. Then I realized what the invaders job was all along, and that I'm actually pretty decent. Max level takes all the skill out of beating the game, low level ensures a higher difficulty, and puts tighter restrictions on your build crafting. Twinking gets thrown around a lot, but in the climate of overleveled phantoms, an invader can take any advantage they can get.
i think this is a good tip but if you have no flasks at all and no health always use the ring that increases damage by 20% when health at 30% and use a good ash of war and if it lands it releases a devistating blow
Man I just got to max level because I wanted to use everything the dlc had to offer immediately, I didn't even think anyone getting max level would want to PvP considering the very nature of there being barely anyone at that level.
Gotta admit. The one (and only) reason why I invade... is when the beacons are lit to hunt the invaders. On a side note, aside Vigor and Endurance (also Mind to the first cap or 2nd, based on build), you only truly need 4 stats "(maxed)". Too bad people don't remain loyal to a single build. Like Bruce Lee once said: "Don't fear the man that knows 1000 kicks. Fear the man who practiced the same kick 1000 times."
Honestly, there are two valid takes here: 1. "Max level requires a lot of skill". I mean, when your opponent can literally throw any and everything at you... you have to be able to adapt to whatever it is they're doing. 2. "A set level requires a lot of skill". I mean, when you impose a limitation and everyone can do whatever they want within that limitation, you have to be able to fight anything with what you have. Both require different kinds of skill... But, no matter which side you end up on, there are going to people who "think they're skilled" when they're not. Because they use broken stuff, cheesey stuff, or whatever. Like, I personally know for a fact that I suck at Elden Ring PvP. But, if me and my friend are playing, our teamwork is pretty potent. We've done something like 35 PvP instances (just happens to us while we're playing together) and only lost 2 of them. The two we lost... were at very low levels. (under level 30). I'm overleveled like crazy but not really optimized for anything except PvE (level 250+) and he's mostly optimized for PvP and is sitting somewhere before level 150. The thing is that I play as a "pure mage" (or as close to one as I could manage for PvE content) and he plays as... mostly a speed guy. I look like a Mage. I throw slow spells. This gets me targetted by PvPer's as "the easy guy to take out". But, my friend dives right in after I lure them them over and smacks them up while they're trying to take me down. And when the enemy focuses on obviously the much more dangerous target, my spells land hits and get the PvPer to back off and reconsider. We also keep the pressure on, too. We don't allow time for PvPer's to "reconsider tactics". We don't allow much room to pop heals. On top of which, I'm also secondarily spec'd into Speed as well, because I'm using the Moonblade or whatever it is (though I basically never use the Ashes of War on it, because I constantly forget I have that option in combat). So, someone sees me as a pure mage and I come out swinging and hitting hard with a katana? Tends to give some people pause, especially if I swap back mid combat and start close range blasting spells and dragon stuff. My build would and usually does get destroyed on its own. But, it works perfectly with my partner and we rarely lose as a result. Much of winning PvP in Elden Ring is just "keep the pressure on". If you at any point don't keep the pressure on... you'll lose.
Don't think I'll reach max on PS5 until I get a dupe guy, but I've gotten to 522 on my main legit (basically everything at 80 except vigor/mind which are at 70 and endurance at 61). I always pushed the levels of my mains in souls games to experience truly wack builds and fashion, even if its just an absurdly powerful bleed havel with thick resource bars. A big reason too is to be a superb packmule and to help people progress low level characters (some bosses get ludacris on a low/mid level build).
The only reason I even consider being a higher level is to try out different builds whenever I want without have having to respec. And even then, Im just trying to reach the soft caps. I don’t even want to touch pvp

Not until after Shadow of the Erdtree; I've never maxed a FromSoft game before, yet I feel a strong desire to max out Elden Ring.
I'm almost to level 500, and have made the determination to go for it. I don't think I've ever desired to max a game out; if I have, the desire has not been as as strong as Elden Ring.

@AllisterNovum getting endurance to 99 isn't bad cause of the equip load. I did it recently just so I can maintain light rolling on most builds. Not to jam pack every weapon I can like in the video.

@@kondek420 Yep, Endurance is the first stat I don't mind maxing out because you the higher equip load makes it easier to get the light roll and having a bit more stamina. You can easily wear the heaviest loadout pretty much and still have a medium roll with wearing one of the talismans, Erdtree's Favor (+1 or +2), Arsenal Charm, or Great Jar's Arsenal. It also allowed some of my lighter weight medium roll builds to actually turn into a light roll.

To me, I only level up a bit more than the cap points such as status resist to trade some hits against banished knight on castle sol because one of them was almost really tanky with OP ash of war that doesn’t even exist to find it

You know it's kinda funny because in a lot of other multiplayer RPGs, being high level is kind of a big thing. It's funny how in these Fromsoft games, where whether and how you level is pretty optional, it's not so much.

Probably a carryover from other games. When you're playing WoW, the strongest player is the guy in the glowing armor wielding sacred weapons and who has the biggest numbers. In Elden Ring, the strongest player is the dude who can kill a god while bereft of anything but a club. One game considers gear to be a mark of skill, whereas the other measures skill by how much can be accomplished using the least.
They're not the highest skilled ones either though, since you go for max ilvl in WoW to skip mechanics and brain-off high difficutly content.
Thing I learned playing D&D 2nd and 3rd edition. If you see a dude taking up the particle effects budget, he's probably bad, but if there's some hobo looking motherfucker about 15 feet behind him cackling like a lunatic, you should probably deal with that wretch first, because he's clearly the more dangerous problem.
@@Sarah-yh4sg gear has item levels, there are gear checks. skilled players prog at bare minimum item level on the launch of a new raids maximum difficulty, while bad players use other systems to farm out maximum item level to kill lower difficulty bosses before they can do any mechanics.

@@KarmaMate How many souls does a level 250 player drop? Because I can farm 1.2 million runes (at NG+1) in exactly 3 minutes. And level 150 players only drop about 8k runes, I can't see 250s dropping the several million that would be required for it to be able to compete with actual farming.
Mind you I dont have a single character over 150, most of my characters are 120-130 for the sake of PvP meta. The only reason the one I'm playing is as high as it is, is because it was my day 1 character and the community originally decided on RL145-150 for PvP Meta, but then one youtuber (I think it was Oroboros?) made a video saying it should be 120, and everyone was just like "oh well if he says so, fuck everyone that's already at 150." xD
TLDR of rant: I've never leveled anywhere close to 250 so I have no idea what the rune drops are, but I find it hard to imagine it beats farming.
@@dokuujin1851 Ik this is a few days old but thought I'd drop in with the info that PvP rune drops are a % of the runes required for the previous level. Hosts gain 15% of the cost from killing an invader and since level costs are exponential in Elden Ring the difference between a level 150 and 250 would be quite substantial. For this specific example, a level 150 invader would give the host 23,052 runes when killed where as a level 250 invader would give 80,198. Invaders only gain 4% of the level cost on killing phantoms or even the host.
As for the actual fastest way to gain runes from multiplayer, I'd say it's to spec into comet azur 1 shot build and just plop your summon sign in front of mohgs boss door. 120k every kill and each kill will only take you a couple minutes at most with most of that time being spent in loading screens. If you level up higher to a point of getting summoned for NG+ you get more runes for each kill with no extra effort. This is also a great Rune Arc farm.
Honestly, I will just farm mindlessly if I am in a call with friends, or in a dnd session. It has made me appreciate the legit people that get past 300. They had to put some work into it. Or, you know... cheat. XD

Not a crutch in their current ng level that’s why they’re always summoned to low lvl carries. Usually they just try to trade hits rather than using tactics/strategy…which is why my lvl 1 invader stocks up on over 350k runes per kill on them.

I don’t have a max level or see the use for one because the effort to make one isn’t worth the grind. I can see gaining max stam or fp could be beneficial, but taking hits is still a skill issue that most max level players aren’t capable of learning.
Best weapons for max level are usually Madness weapons.
They tend to have four out of five scalings, this includes incantation seals.
It's fitting for anyone insane enough to farm to max level to get better usage from frenzy.

That's because lower leveled players have fewer options which takes out the guess work in combat, there's only so many weapons available for use at lower levels so your locked into one archetype, no hybrid builds. Once they see your equapiment you can be read like a book at low levels.

The early days of DS3 with dark sword was easy life. The sequels in toggles and bowglitches were the real (unironic and straight) shit.
My proudest achievement in a FromSoft game was beating Bloodborne's The Old Hunters DLC at lvl118 on NG+1 as I didn't want to make a new character, took me a few days but I beat Orphan of Kos first try when I finally got to him while seeing many people struggle on him.
Never really saw the point of getting to max level on any of the games unless I was doing trolling builds.
I'm a DS2 PvPer, and it's fascinating to see that the same exact things that happen in DS2 happen in ER. Max level poopwalking Havel monsters (why use Flynns Ring when 838 makes you feel so powerful), Sacred Oath, Sunlight Blade, the works. I do wish you had touched a bit on why most PvP enthusiasts *don't* play at max level, such as having the ability to make build decisions. Good video.

@@iggytheincubus Elden Ring has higher soft caps than previous "Souls" games and about level 150 would be the rune level you can expect for a "complete" build. Dark souls 1 and 3 soul levels were about 120-125, Dark souls 2 soul level were about 150-200.
Why do people say 125 or 130 is the meta for PVP? I’ve been trying to figure this out for awhile. It’s my first from soft game and I went mage so there’s pretty high stat investments. I only just hit the soft cap damage with 80 intelligence and I’m already level 140 I believe. Was kinda upset just in case I ever decide to get around to PVP and accidentally locked myself out of PvP by leveling or something
@@monhi64 I don't invade or focus on PvP so I doubt I'm the best person to say, but I'll give it a go as I have played DS3 and Bloodborne before. Basically the community has the community council (CC) of streamers/influencers/etc and they all take turns voting. It happens with pretty much every Fromsoft game where there is some internal debate over what level should be 'meta' and where we all say to stop leveling if you want to have access to the conglomerate of players who want to invade/1v1. Usually argument for higher levels is that it lets you have a more 'complete' build but advocates for lower say it's the truest test of who is able to squeeze the most out of their levels and stat points.
So in short, I don't believe you have though I also don't know the current numbers of people who pvp within the ranges. I think Elden Ring is one of the first Fromsoft games where the debate became inconclusive. I take my characters now up to level 200 and stop because that's where I'm happy with them and I only occasionally hit the arena.

Max level only makes sense for PvE but only until you reach the soft cap. A vigor of 60 to a vigor of 99 makes barely any difference. For PvP this is pointless
Nah even for PvE it's nonsense. You need 458 millions to go to level 501 and have the hard cap in everything. Then you need 1.235 BILLIONS to go to 713. And as you say stats after the hard cap are... meh. Only the carry load past the hard cap is useful

Even in PvE it's useless, even if you want to max dmg you need STR/FAI/INT/DEX/ARC 99 (one of those or 2/3) then you need some END/VIG/MIND and you still end up with level 400-500 max level does absolutely nothing
I think the entire point is that in PVE specifically, going for the highest NG+ possible will take you beyond soft caps and lead to the highest skill bossfights possible... as for pvp it's all irrelevant
the grind is no joke, through this dlc on ng+4 and after beating the dlc i only leveled up 3 times. my total level now is 417.

Same here, I have a character that’s maxed out because as I play through NG+ I can try any type of weapon/skill/spell etc. I have another character that stays at a lower level, but my max character is tons of fun as I like to switch up constantly. Because I can.

That’s why I enjoy making new character and make a new build. Not only do you learn better at pvp at being a lower level, learning how to manage ur stats and gear is way more fun then just equipping everything and spamming everything. I just switch my characters

I’m like level 400, but I’ve also done a few challenge runs with a friend on Ng+7+ like an all bow run, torch only, etc. I’m as high level as I am because I didn’t want to have to reroll my stats every time I felt like using a new weapon, or just trying one. I rarely use buffs for boss fights because I feel like it makes them unfairly easy. The correlation between level and skill is just a result of playstyle combined with playtime. Regardless of how you end up playing though, just enjoy the game. It’s a masterpiece
I have a character level 225 at ng+7 and stopped (since that's when the new game plus scaling ends and i wanted to keep it as a trophy character), purely just beating the game over and over (also let my brother do one run on the cheesiest build I could do for him). People who genuinely get involved in things like bragging about levels or gatekeeping what builds 'should' be played aren't real gamers, they just want to have control over everything they do including the only game they may be good at/passionate about.

DS1 was my first souls so I kept around level 120 ever since then I aim to keep my builds at that level. Elden Ring was the first where I went to level 150 and it felt weird :D
Since the game is longer and the late game areas are really though its only natural to reach 130~180... In Ds1 and Ds3 i beat the game at SL90~100, in ER i had to reach RL150 to even try beating radagon xD
The biggest tip i found for any souls game combat in pvp years ago is to wait just a fraction of a second longer before you feel like you want to press right bumper. that way you will dismiss your oponents i frames and hit them at the end of a roll. Or you might want to roll but you are being too pre-emptive and end up getting caught yourself. Just slow down a bit and delay your inputs, and you'll start mind fucking everyone you fight

The highest level I have on a character is about 400 lvl which I got to mostly through the runes gained through invasions you wouldn't believe the amount of times I've tricked entire gank squads into jumping into the bottomless pit near the 1st step or the amount of players that don't know you can't parry a 2 handed colossal weapon.
It would take you no time to make a level 125 character. And just keep your super high leveled tarnished to mule

If you want to do CoOp AND invade, like I do, you gotta find the Stakes of Marika everywhere - and simply going around to poke them all is I shit you not a 30+ hour endeavor if you're at least making things tolerable by doing multiplayer while you do it.

I love my level 320 builds (pve) and you can't do nothing about it. Not saying I'm better or something, I just love it, but I'm on NG+3
farming up builds that can use whatever weapon or spell they want is just fun tbh, I love experimenting with stupid set ups and bat shit insane gimmicks

I do agree though that having a level 300+ character is nice. I have one thats like 313 and than another thats 150 for pvp, and its great.
I hope the DLC balances things a bit better so that high level pvp isnt as busted, but its noce having a high level character for testing stuff.

The benefit is being able to use absolutely any build you want and experiment with any spells or weapons your little heart desires. The variety available to you is incredible. At least for PvE that is.

I have encountered a "person" (I am almost sure it was an actual human being) desperately trying to convince me that I have a skill issue by refusing to use the Mimic Tear, because I "don't know how to use game mechanics". I triple checked with them if they are merely trolling, and three times they confirmed that they're serious.

The thing is, most players who level beyond lvl 250 or so have got there by rune farming, if they didn't take one of the more underhanded routes and used save editors or, horror of horrors, actually paid real money to buy runes online. I finally finished the game at lvl 300 and something, and I did it mostly by making the Moghwyn bird fall to its death for probably a full week of real time play. I spent more time at Palace Overlook Ledge-Road than any other location in the game by far, and after I eventually beat the game, I went right back and combined the Moghwyn bird with the Albinauric genocide until I was close to lvl 400 in preparation for the DLC.
The point I'm trying to make is, I'm the kind of player whose preferred method of beating soulslikes is to overlevel my character until they're a physical God and then break the difficulty curve over my knee. Also I hate most forms of social interaction so I've always avoided the PvP side of the games. Sure, I've done it once or twice in DS1 and DS2, and I dipped my toes into Eden Ring invasions for about three days a few months back, but I know full well I'd get destroyed by experienced PvP'ers despite my character's high level, because I deliberately don't play the game in a way that develops my skill at the game beyond being all that much better than the average casual player.
I'd bet money most max level players are in the same boat as me. The type of person who will grind that high grinds to overpower challenges the same way I do. The fact that doing so means you've played the game longer doesn't mean anything if most of that time was spent tricking giant monster birds into running head first off cliffs. Honestly I'd say the lvl170 PvP crowd will in general be much more proficient at the game because lvl170 is the most competitive level range and people who stay at that level to PvP are doing it more often and at higher skill levels.
TL:DR - Having a bigger stick means nothing if you don't know how to swing it like somebody who knows what they're doing.
Do you realize the DLC area will use new stats? Your RL1 and RL400 will be the same there, gear is the only thing will matter.

I like around 120-140 personally. I find it means you will see a large variety of different builds, but players still have to pick and choose what they wanna focus on. If they are a bleed build, they cant spell spam, if they spell spam, they probably have no vigor, etc. I like having high enough stats to use end game gear, but not so high that the only option for winning is to use whatever is objectively optimal

I’m getting to max level using only the runes I pick up from luring invaders (1v1s only). If you can win 90-95% of your fights, it can be a fun/fast way to level up when you’re over lvl 400-500
The main difference between lvl 200 and lvl 713 in my experience is the flexibility. Being able to just swap to any weapon, or try any build I like in a second without having to spend a component (and even worse, time) on respec is a godsend. Now I can enter the DLC, I have the souls, stats and crafting components to upgrade any new weapon I find to max, and test it immediately. I can have fun with every new discovery.
I also feel like the balance is pretty great at 99 in all stat NG+7, yes the bonus you get from stats beyond 50 is lower, but it's not negligible either and in NG+6/7 you can actually feel the difficulty increase (while NG+2 through +5 felt almost the same, I speedran through them in 90 minutes each and felt no difference in difficulty), so those additional dmg/health and small resist bonus you get from going to full 99 are actually felt and genuinely help compensating for the difficulty increase in those last two NG+ cycles..
I came back to the game to prepare for the DLC a few days ago and went to kill the bell-bearing hunter in Dragonbarrow yesterday and that asshole one-shotted me even at 99 vigor xD, But I could also kill him pretty quickly, it was a deadly fight in both directions, felt like a dance with the melee setup I'm currently using, I loved it, no health sponges on either side.
It's definitely not worth the time spent farming it (60+ hours) as a primary activity, but if you grind while doing something else, it can be fun to then have a max level character. Or you could just make one with a character creator while offline, I didn't because it would always bug me that I used a cheat engine, but it's mostly a single player game, have fun the way you want.
And obviously (as if it needed to be said), throwing a wave of light on poor defenseless Albinaurics 15 000 times does not make you more skilled at the game. I mean it makes you better at sending waves of light at the correct timing and angle to maximise xp/hour in this specific location but that's all you're gonna get better at xD By the end of it, I had the technique to murder 13 Albinaurics as efficiently as possible down to a science.

I’ve beaten the game a lot and now I’m just seeing “how far can I push the envelope?”
Honestly I’m lvl 302 and for some reason it’s more difficult to get players to join when I run through any place with the summoning pool like it says they’re unable to join but when I was like lvl 100-150 it was easy to get a join up

Met multiple invaders when helping other players progress through maps like the Haligtree or dungeons. All they do is spam, rivers of blood, Lion Claw or spells. Literally met a mage that only spamed the gravitational rock spells and all i did to counter him was roll through them until he was in melee range and kill him in two hits
They reach max level as a crutch.
I grinded for max level so I can do different builds in ng+ cycles without making new characters.

What I love most is the fact you have people that are high level, get really cocky and smug, toxic but in reality they are so damn bad its like you are fighting a really bad AI or NPC
So you can imagine how good it fells mopping the floor with them fells great
This is a rather cold take; but most people that are semi-"serious" about PVP will generally aim to land their build somewhere between level 40-120 (but there seems to be a decent amount of action up to level 200 in ER specifically). This is to ensure build diversity (in theory anyway, I'm well aware 99.9% of PVP matches will contain META builds...) but this also means that the people that go far beyond these brackets generally won't be fighting good, or even decent, PVP:ers.
So in short, these are people that've spent hundreds of hours fighting PVE in NG+infinity (assuming they didn't just cheat their way to max level), and they're mostly fighting people that've done the same. Of course they're going to be clueless in PVP.
i learned today that ranni has bones or can crack bones with her stare due to whenever she looks at the camera a bone cracking appears, which could eighter just be some perverted dude losing focus during pvp and getting bashed
More than pros, is for TRUE afficionados of the series. Grinding than many runes means that you're probably at NG +27 (difficulty is capped at +7 by the way) or even higher.

I'm a bad player, pvp wise. But I love testing out builds and just playing with friends. This game has such rich potential with how you can mix and match things or takes specific themes.
Its why I really enjoy the seamless coop mod, allows me to just have casual fun with friends without having to worry about getting invaded. The added bonus of running around on glitchy torrents is also hilarious.
I think elden ring should have a PvP mode where you select from preselected characters like in the beginning of the game to duel other people in the arena. and make it as fair as possible making for a good challenge.
I would argue that low level invasions are, generally harder than mid to high level for the following reasons
1 options: you get fewer options of weapons and spells particularly if you want to have high vigor
2 level gaps: while you will be generally the same level as the host, their allies are ALWAYS either the same or higher level however i have noticed that it isn't incredibly uncommon for both to be about the same level, you will still never get the possibility that someone is rolling up significantly lower level than you
3 chaos: there is no predicting what low level players will do, rush in? Lure to an ambush? actually let you duel their phantoms 1v1? pretend to let you duel only to jump in when it looks like they are losing? this might be a thing with mid-high level invasions but inexperience breeds bizarre behavior

As someone who is almost maxed, the best part is when you wanna have a different build you can just do it. The "pro" mentality also probably comes from ng+7 difficulty which humbles tf outta you in the dlc
Personally the only reason I want my lvl to be high is to be able to use anything anytime. But no matter how many lvls people have, you have to know how to read others movements, mechanics timing. Sometimes literally expect the unexpected, which no amount of lvls will help you with

I go to what ever level I want, currently 190, and I can still barely beat a normal ass boss.
I thought I was bad. Till I invaded. Then I realized what the invaders job was all along, and that I'm actually pretty decent. Max level takes all the skill out of beating the game, low level ensures a higher difficulty, and puts tighter restrictions on your build crafting. Twinking gets thrown around a lot, but in the climate of overleveled phantoms, an invader can take any advantage they can get.

i think this is a good tip but if you have no flasks at all and no health always use the ring that increases damage by 20% when health at 30% and use a good ash of war and if it lands it releases a devistating blow

Man I just got to max level because I wanted to use everything the dlc had to offer immediately, I didn't even think anyone getting max level would want to PvP considering the very nature of there being barely anyone at that level.
Gotta admit. The one (and only) reason why I invade... is when the beacons are lit to hunt the invaders.
On a side note, aside Vigor and Endurance (also Mind to the first cap or 2nd, based on build), you only truly need 4 stats "(maxed)".
Too bad people don't remain loyal to a single build. Like Bruce Lee once said: "Don't fear the man that knows 1000 kicks. Fear the man who practiced the same kick 1000 times."
Honestly, there are two valid takes here:
1. "Max level requires a lot of skill". I mean, when your opponent can literally throw any and everything at you... you have to be able to adapt to whatever it is they're doing.
2. "A set level requires a lot of skill". I mean, when you impose a limitation and everyone can do whatever they want within that limitation, you have to be able to fight anything with what you have.
Both require different kinds of skill...
But, no matter which side you end up on, there are going to people who "think they're skilled" when they're not. Because they use broken stuff, cheesey stuff, or whatever.
Like, I personally know for a fact that I suck at Elden Ring PvP. But, if me and my friend are playing, our teamwork is pretty potent. We've done something like 35 PvP instances (just happens to us while we're playing together) and only lost 2 of them. The two we lost... were at very low levels. (under level 30). I'm overleveled like crazy but not really optimized for anything except PvE (level 250+) and he's mostly optimized for PvP and is sitting somewhere before level 150. The thing is that I play as a "pure mage" (or as close to one as I could manage for PvE content) and he plays as... mostly a speed guy.
I look like a Mage. I throw slow spells. This gets me targetted by PvPer's as "the easy guy to take out". But, my friend dives right in after I lure them them over and smacks them up while they're trying to take me down. And when the enemy focuses on obviously the much more dangerous target, my spells land hits and get the PvPer to back off and reconsider. We also keep the pressure on, too. We don't allow time for PvPer's to "reconsider tactics". We don't allow much room to pop heals. On top of which, I'm also secondarily spec'd into Speed as well, because I'm using the Moonblade or whatever it is (though I basically never use the Ashes of War on it, because I constantly forget I have that option in combat). So, someone sees me as a pure mage and I come out swinging and hitting hard with a katana? Tends to give some people pause, especially if I swap back mid combat and start close range blasting spells and dragon stuff.
My build would and usually does get destroyed on its own. But, it works perfectly with my partner and we rarely lose as a result.
Much of winning PvP in Elden Ring is just "keep the pressure on". If you at any point don't keep the pressure on... you'll lose.
Don't think I'll reach max on PS5 until I get a dupe guy, but I've gotten to 522 on my main legit (basically everything at 80 except vigor/mind which are at 70 and endurance at 61). I always pushed the levels of my mains in souls games to experience truly wack builds and fashion, even if its just an absurdly powerful bleed havel with thick resource bars. A big reason too is to be a superb packmule and to help people progress low level characters (some bosses get ludacris on a low/mid level build).
The only reason I even consider being a higher level is to try out different builds whenever I want without have having to respec. And even then, Im just trying to reach the soft caps. I don’t even want to touch pvp

There is a skill ceiling for pretty much all players. Which means there are scenarios were a level 50 is more skilled than a 150.
