I used to work out of Van Nuys and Santa Monica airports. The company was Heli LA helicopter tours. It was an awesome job and a fun tour company to work for. All the best to Nigel Turner & Miss. Regan Stannerd.
That was me flying that flight. We had flown a well known singer in for the Latin Grammys. Got in a little hot water with the airport authority because the airport did not allow stage II aircraft anymore. Also its not Larry Flint's airplane and never was- I was asked that all the time when I used to fly this one. Nice plane on the inside with upgraded interior but it was kind of old. Great airplane i really miss it.
Larry Flynt, who owns Hustler Magazine has always had a black jet. Actually im VERY suspicious that this used to be his back several years ago. Flynt now has a G-IV.......N269HM
That is so nice! You can depart Van Nuys @ 4 PM and have a wonderful dinner in Las Vegas by 5 PM. I am a poor person, that is the best scenario I can come up with..!
I haven't heard that distinct noise since Paul Mellons G2 would takeoff at Hyannis back 40 years ago. if wind was right, would sound like a huge vacuum coming at you.
At first when he was making his turn around to get lined up for the runway, heard a single engine firing up...sorta threw me off there for a second until the real Gulfstream revved up!!!!! 1:21 hilarious!
van nuys airport, brings back good memories when i worked for Heli-LA. Nigel Turner the pilot,Reagan Stannerd buiseness partner, limo drivers etc. great busy fun hectick memories. i would do it all over again. "AWESOME"
Thanks for the response, someone whos been there and understands. I miss it know, im now in colorado springs. Back then i lived on venice beach. Heli LA flew out of van nuys/santa monica airports. Great tlme.
I'll surely take your word for it. Let me say that I am the biggest fan of classic Gulfstreams with the loud / smokey SPEY engines. They have such a distinctive sound. I love to document these classics every chance I get and N222G is by far the sharpest looking G-III I have ever seen.
Yep, that's an older model. Smokey engines just like the Boeing 707s. Jet engines from the old days and now being replaced by the more efficient turbo fan jet engines. You will notice the difference in size as the new Gulfstream G650 uses. They are quieter, cleaner, and produces less noise. ua-cam.com/video/rm_riophM_U/v-deo.html
AWESOME video, however an I am appalled to say that FAA is banning Stage 2 aircraft or forcing the operator to add a silencer kit to the aircraft by 2016, if not the aircraft has to be scrapped. There is nothing like the sound of a Stage 2 aircraft, the power, the sound, the sleekness of that (bullet like) cowling. These new aircraft with the quiet engines, just don't do it for me (I am an avid aircraft spotter). For example, a new G450 or G550 is VERY quiet compared to an older GII, GIII, Lear 25B MD80 or MD83 (ground shaking power) etc. Thanks again!!
I couldn't agree more! I really like the sleek shape of these older engines along with the earth shaking roar and smoke they produce. Just doesn't get any better than that. Although I am a fan of the TEY's on a G450, it still is not the same as the GII's and III's.
azcharlie2009 Absolutely love the RR TAY engines on the G IV and would be a nice boost in performance. But, they'll never be as loud and thunderous as these old RR SPEY engines. :)
Charles Dreiser Because this is at van nuys airport and planes could sometimes sit on the tarmac for 10 minutes or longer, you really want to wait 10 minutes to see this beauty take off?
Agree with you here. The main reason is I was doing a balancing act on the roof of my car. The edit point cut out a shaky zoom and almost slipping off my car. This was the only way to smooth it out :) I have since upgraded to a spotting platform for standing on.
How often are these takeoff at Van Nuys ,meaning is there a lot of Stage II noise aircraft here taking off because, I’ve never experienced a G-II or G-III takeoff unhushkitted.
+LoveJT8D So basically your saying is that at the time you filmed this video Stage II noise aircraft were more common at VNY? I’ve heard Learjet 24s and 25s without hush kits multiple times ,but I really wanna see a G-II or G-III take off with no hush kits.
+LoveJT8D There is obviously hush kitted G-IIs and G-IIIs at VNY but I’m ok with the QTA hush kit since it doesn’t make it too quite. But don’t even start on the QS3. That takes the Spey roar away completely.
Duderocks5539 At the time of this video I think stage II was pretty much done but once in a great while there would be a stage II aircraft rolling through VNY. Now I think it’s Stage III minimum.
WOW AWESOME ALL THE WAY WISH ME LUCK ON TAKING ONE OF THESE BEAUTIES TO BARBADOS 4 HR FLIGHT FROM NASH TN PLAYING COLDPLAY STAR FULL OF STARS BLASTING ON THE SOUND SYSTEM
Why on earth must some piston-engined aircraft _absolutely_ barge in at the most inappropriate moment and ruin everything with its sound? Most often they sound like a mad lawnmower =((
Black may look cool, at first, but anyone that's owned a black car knows is that it show any dirt -- worst color choice for that. Also, black absorbs a lot more heat from the Sun which is also not a good thing -- particularly for the non metal parts like the radome.
jets get hot when sitting outside without the APU running. Having an all black paintjob, isn't cool -- literally. That plane must be HELL to pre-flight and startup before the owner arrives. It's basically a big FU to the crew.
That bird looks modern and new, even though it's over three decades old.
jj]'jii;;"ui00!
That's one sharp looking jet, looks great totally black. Nice sound and lots of smoke from this classic!
This is definitely my first time seeing a solid black Gulfstream livery in person. I agree that the black gives this aircraft type a real edge.
That's one hell of a Gulfstream! Sleek paint scheme and no hush kits. Awesome catch! ^^
The G-III are so proportionate, just the right fuse length! Beautiful plane.
I used to work out of Van Nuys and Santa Monica airports. The company was Heli LA helicopter tours. It was an awesome job and a fun tour company to work for. All the best to Nigel Turner & Miss. Regan Stannerd.
Mark Wentworth Sounds like you have some great memories at these airports.
The Gulf streams are made here in savannah ga. They have an assembly plant here.
American engineering at it's finest what a stunning looking airplane
C. Haas Definitely a remarkable looking bird.
They are made in China!
@@BOLLEFISK123 your about a fucking idiot they are made Savanah Georgia....
Needs a playboy bunny on the tail and Gulfstream/Global Girl to be flying it!!
@Alan Whiteside Great minds think alike!!!
Oh man, love the sound of them ol Spey's!!!
LOVIN' IT!! thanks for always posting such great videos. Can't always comment but i try to always like.
And many thanks for watching!
My uncle from California used to fly Gulfstreams for Chevron, Texaco Corp. back in the day.
JMMT7022801 that’s a rough flying job!
All black and pure badass G-III. Beautiful girl!
BRIAN THOMAS Indeed!
6 years chai!
Thanks for posting!
Beautiful plane. I also like the plane in the foreground of the first shot.
That was me flying that flight. We had flown a well known singer in for the Latin Grammys. Got in a little hot water with the airport authority because the airport did not allow stage II aircraft anymore.

Greg McGovern Awesome Greg! Very lucky to have had the chance to fly an aircraft with the classic SPEYs.
In light of a recent event, Do you think this plane could survive a complete loss of hydraulics while in flight?
LoveJT8D he's a liar! I piloted that bird!
Greg McGovern just out of curiousity, with that livery, you have to have a great call sign, if it is not personal, may i ask what it is ?
Beautiful plane.
“Hustler” Founder Larry Flynt
had a Black Gulfstream.
But,on the v-tail were letters
LFP in Gold .
That is one beautiful aircraft!
Can you please help me get a laptop for school
@@selorm15 yes which laptop?

StellarBlue1 That's the best I have too ;)
As great as the JT8Ds were, you got to admit those CMF56s were sure a nice upgrade..especially on the 737s. Still, i would prefer PW over GE..
Poor is just your perspective on life
please make more videos like this. Great little airport. old airport.
Ben Martz Will try to get out at VNY and shoot some more footage :)
LoveJT8D Thank you sir. You are awesome. I wish i could be there with you. Im in atlanta.
She’s for sale too! Fresh paint and fresh interior $1.4 million is a bargain
Lovely color
Tom Brady has a Black G650. U used to watch Earnhart come into Concord, NH. He had a black Lear!
Awesome! Such an awesome color to have on a business jet.
brady has a black G550, not 650.
Love that black paint, would have to use a callsign of nighthawk or raven or blackbird etc...
Steve Logan Yeah the black looks really slick on that plane. Definitely needs a cool callsign to match.
I haven't heard that distinct noise since Paul Mellons G2 would takeoff at Hyannis back 40 years ago. if wind was right, would sound like a huge vacuum coming at you.
Now I see where the term jet black comes from.
Shiny... Looks like a nice jet
At first when he was making his turn around to get lined up for the runway, heard a single engine firing up...sorta threw me off there for a second until the real Gulfstream revved up!!!!! 1:21 hilarious!
According to FAA records, this aircraft has been exported... just like all the cars that can't pass smog in the U.S. are sent south.
obsolete professor Cool. Will have to see where it’s next chapter is.
THE BEST OF ALL. ESPECIALLY IN BLACK. AWESOMELY AWESOME .
Mark Wentworth I don't think there is a GIII livery that can top this one :)
