The problem is, in a game like that, there's no real risk to being infected or dying. You don't actually lose anything from dying, and just have to respawn. In WoW, dying has real consequences. You could loose items and loot that you spent a long time getting, and wanted to do everything you could to make sure you don't die. I helped perpetuate this in vanilla. We figured out if a hunter dismissed his pet with the debuff on it and recalled it in town, it would spread. And boy, did it. This was a great time to be alive in WoW. ZG will be missed.

Best time ever.
I just remembered this recently and it's scary how similar people acted to this like in real life. Similar to how only weaker players will die to the effect, Covid can easily kill anyone who has poor immune response, those being children, the elderly and people with a condition. And just like in real life, stronger players(people) act like jerks and just spread the infection on unsuspecting players. When I first heard this story I thought it was ridiculous for people in real life to act like this. Yet with what happened, it is not so farfetched.
I use to play this game in the mid 00s. I think I stopped around 2012. The best moments in my life were in WoW. I’m now 35 with nothing to show for in life. This is happening in ARK, as well. People were getting bit by leaches in Genesis, and when they transferred they brought Swamp Fever to more non-genesis servers. The annoying thing about it is that to get rid of it, you need to make another character. Dying doesn’t get rid of it. It’s really annoying because it doesn’t kill you, just limits your stats.
Wow, that most have been so cool. They should have made it so players would need to gather resources to find a cure and ultimately develop some kind of vaccine to stop it.
I vaguely remember this. I was 5 at the time but my dad was a huge WoW player and spoke of it. Also talking interesting virtual events, can you please cover The battle of 'The bloodbath of B-R5RB' on the game Eve Online. It happened in January 2014. Involved over 7,000 players and cost between $300,000 - $330,000. It lasted over 21 hours.
HAI: We thought it would be nice to talk about something calm, relaxing, and in no way related to current events. Me: Ok cool HAI: an incredibly infectious virus Me: *banshee shriek*
I find it very interesting that the CDC asked for the data of the pandemic. It shows that we could utilize computers to run complex simulations of disease, and World of Warcraft was perfect because it involved real world people. While of course they would act differently online then in the real world it shows how things like these could be utilized. Say for something like a MMO perma-death game and the dev's added in some sort of virus/effect without announcing it and see what would happen.
Swamp fever in Ark Survial Evolved spread throughout official servers and now almost everyone has it. This is also kind of a pandemic like the one in World of Warcraft.

I remember that. I also remember when they try to introduce the 3rd expansion by infecting players and NPC which turn them into zombies. It was suppose to stay in the vanilla world but soon enough got into the 2nd expansion areas. Quests were not able to be done and lower level characters will die by high level zombies. Best time ever.
He’s appealed to his viewers too much! He’s too powerful!
" im expecting a hard reset of earth any day now."
Jesus Christ: " Hold my commandments."
Man of culture.
Technically Moses wrote the commandments but yes
I just remembered this recently and it's scary how similar people acted to this like in real life.
Similar to how only weaker players will die to the effect, Covid can easily kill anyone who has poor immune response, those being children, the elderly and people with a condition. And just like in real life, stronger players(people) act like jerks and just spread the infection on unsuspecting players.
When I first heard this story I thought it was ridiculous for people in real life to act like this. Yet with what happened, it is not so farfetched.
Seeing the differences in how ZP and HAI covered the same incident in video form is super fascinating!
I use to play this game in the mid 00s. I think I stopped around 2012. The best moments in my life were in WoW. I’m now 35 with nothing to show for in life. I was feeling optimistic once again at the start of 2020 but the whole covid situation crushed that and now I’m stuck in a hole that I don’t know how to get out of this time around.
I am writing this from December 2020. We needed that hard reset back in March 2020! WE NEEDED THAT!!!
2:37 she is wearing 2 pairs of head phones, what a gamer
so is the guy sitting next to her lol
Do you know her name? Or the name of her team?
@@dionysus649 and people call us Indians horny
Just your typical stock footage. Like those pictures of people holding a soldering iron by the tip.
@@dionysus649
I recall someone saying that using this information was a bad idea, because groups of people spread it intentionally.
And now I see darn memes called the Corona challenge of people licking stuff in public. *Eyerolls*
and still, i'm not one bit surprised... humans gonna human, the first time i heard the words "virus" and "lockdown" i exactly saw this coming
HAI? This was heckin' amazing interesting! I never played WoW so I never heard of this. Hearing the fact it made real world people use it for research was amazing. Great video!
I find it really cool that a game would let that happen. I mean it’s a big bummer, but it makes it feel more real
2:37 someone tell me why shes wearing two pairs of headphones at the same time. is this a next level gamer strat i haven't yet uncovered
I don't need sleep, I need ANSWERS!
Probably alternating between two monitors
it's just stock footage being stock footage... i saw one clip from a jim stirling video where a guy with a vr headset was bouncing on a gymnastics ball while holding his hands out like he's riding a motorcycle... two headphones seem pretty tame in my opinion :D
Rest of the world: M-M-O-R-P-G

why are you like this
HAI: *Makes 3 jabs at gamers within the first two minutes.* I'm edgy.
I was there and I helped spread it. It was a hilarious bug. One of the few things I miss from classic.
"let's make a video about a video game disease!"
*proceeds to make fun of gamers for 5 minutes*
From Leroy Jenkins to the funeral raid to this. Wow never fails to disappoint
This channel should be named Twice as Interesting.
Go outside and have interactions with other people?
THE ULTIMATE HORROR
Hey, I can actually relate due to my anxiety
This guy has something against WoW players...
Everything he's said has been echoed by players in the game since its inception.
One or two of those jokes were funny but it got pretty mean further on. 😕
Probably got ganked by a high level player and teabagged while they camped his corpse, now all WoW players are bad.
who doesnt?
Probably to broke to afford the $15 sub
just so you know HAI, a "hard reset" in the real world usually takes the form of a giant flaming asteroid.
It has turned from half as intresting to one third as intresting.
Jk Love your vids ❤️❤️
Just remove the bottom part and you're accurate

@@aa01blue38 Nah man, vid quality has been going down. It's turning from short but cool topic with jokes and puns to vague topics where he shits on random people.
@@hkr667 yeah... the first "gamers don't have a life"-joke wasn't funny, but i could look past this since it wouldn't be that big of a deal... by the time he was doing the fifth one it got really annoying and insulting
This video has the best sarcastic undertones of any of the HAI videos... Absolutely loved it!! Keep up the amazing work..!
4:54 “A hard reset on Earth” sounds like an extinction-level event, such as the Chixulub impact.
well, why not eh? I see as a win-win scenario for me and the planet.
@@PotatoSmasher420 and i get called a psychopath when i say that humanity is the real virus and shouldn't infect other planets... smh

HEY!!! Sir, I am not a TROLL!!!! I am a hobgoblin.
The players in WoW had some we were intentionally spread it. In the present, out of game with the Covid-19, some just spread it because they are douches.
Especially during the spring break.
1:43 wait so I can poison my own blood to fight that mosquito boss in my apartment
Damn friends, missed out on this
The delivery of the jokes make the video so much fun!!
I know right! When are they going to patch this “Virus” thing?
Therw stil many "glitch and bug" that need to fix without affecting "player stat and item"
Gods taking a break for a bit a patch is coming soon though I'm guessing and hopefully a new playable race
@@epicgirl3718 yeah, i am really pissed ever since he patched the money duping glitch

I guess instead of trying to create a model that simulates how millions of humans interact in a pandemic you can just observe how humans behave in a virtual pandemic
2:24 I thought this level of stupidity only occurs my country
Turns out it didn't
Human stupidity is in all countries.
I clicked on the video wanting to learn a neat fact. Instead I got cyber bullied. You just earned my subscription good sir

as long as it's not raid: casino legends...
Literally living for the commentary in this video 😂😂
Don't forget Mark Zuckerberg, who is a robot.
Not so sure he got the suggestion, but it sounds interesting
I'm not sure this video had enough "World of Warcraft players are losers" jokes, could you fit in a couple more next time?
I've watched so many videos about this and i'm not gonna stop
The way he said Zul’Gurrub and MMORPG lol
The Zul'gurub one hurt my soul
Thank you HAI; as a Hearthstone player I now understand who ‘Hakkar’ is and why they shuffle ‘Corrupted Blood’ cards into your deck.
Player: lmao I spread the disease to you lol
Researchers: *hmm interesting*
HAI: We thought it would be nice to talk about something calm, relaxing, and in no way related to current events.
Me: Ok cool
HAI: an incredibly infectious virus
Me: *banshee shriek*
I find it very interesting that the CDC asked for the data of the pandemic. It shows that we could utilize computers to run complex simulations of disease, and World of Warcraft was perfect because it involved real world people. While of course they would act differently online then in the real world it shows how things like these could be utilized. Say for something like a MMO perma-death game and the dev's added in some sort of virus/effect without announcing it and see what would happen.
How can you write so many jokes for not even one of them to land.
When this nightmare is over , I want to take a two-week leave to stay at the office to calm my nerves ...damn staying home is tough
What a perfect HAI video for this moment in time
The gist of what happened was right, but the specifics really missed the mark. Just like your jokes.
You're like Internet Historian but you're Half as Interesting.
Pretty sure introverts had more friends than extroverts because of wow
Swamp fever in Ark Survial Evolved spread throughout official servers and now almost everyone has it. This is also kind of a pandemic like the one in World of Warcraft.
the way he pronounced "mmorpg" means he definitely had friends in middle school
This man is so smooth, from the jokes to the ad. Dang, I want to be this smooth.
I thought the title said “The Accidental Virtual Pandemic in the World of Minecraft”
Omg I remember this.. Holy hell this is bringing back memories
