😮😮😮 Man you smoked this!!! Great work!!! That DSX is sick!!! Knew about the DMX/OB-8, just saw David Frank had an old DSX in his setup??? Super tight homie!!!
Sadly, my OB-8 is now down. It got stuck in a loop of triggering the tuning routine and I have confirmed it is not just a stuck button. I have the Alesis MMT-8, which has a similar workflow to the DSX, both were designed by Marcus Ryle.
@@100DollarHeadache Sorry to hear that homie! If you are near Vegas I have an honest repair guy!!! Your setup is still smoking without it!!! I have a Moog, Prologue 16, and Drumtraks/Tr-08 setup myself, ran digitally!!! Nothing beats Analog especially if you are going for these types of grooves, but if you are near Vegas lmk, I'm looking for songwriters for my production company!!!
A year late to the show but thankyou for the video, its great to see music being made the 80s way especially the timing. Awesome collection of analog stuff too! I for one would like to see more videos of you making some sweet organic 80s music.
Hi David,if you change a sequence on the DSX (with function "prog changes ON")from split mode to double mode with the OB8,does that run smoothly?best,Ken.
Curious. How close the Oberheim hardware’s layout is compared to those of the EMU SP sampler ‘groove-boxes’. The row of fader pots that slide a good distance. And those rugged, clicky mechanical push buttons. Seeing this makes me wonder if those gears actually pre-date the Xpander by a good few years? If anyone deserves an Xpander for X-mas, it’s this guy!!
Yep, the Oberheim System predates MIDI. My OB-8 did not come with MIDI stock, so I bought the DSX for it. I had to wait for custom side panels to be able to install the MIDI, I'm not a fan of aftermarket case drilling. The Xpander also has CV/Gate inputs, so it'd work with the DSX and really complete the system.
Later DMX voice cards supported longer samples, and I bought one of those, then configured it to be a hi-hat with the long version of the hi-hat sample.

@@100DollarHeadache I just googled Marcus Ryle!?!? Holy sh...lol Very cool info homie! Thank you!!!
@@flymanaz My OB-8 is back in action. The problem was that the keyboard cable had gotten crimped on a post in the case or something.
@100DollarHeadache that's great news homie!!! Glad you got it fixed! 👍💪

Living the dream my friend
Thanks !
Great setup.... Good video, stay motivated!👍🏾
Nice 😎 Sounds so 80's
Legit setup! Boggles me to think new order did those complex song arrangements on a setup that’s probably very similar to this
I will got my dsx this week !
Thanks for the video.Have you ever tried to sequence a midi synth with the DSX by keeping the CV's?You can do this with latest firmware OB8 and DSX.

Did you sync the sequencer to the drum machine? Or the drum machine to the sequencer?
The DMX was providing the sync here.
@@100DollarHeadache ok. Is the ppq better from the dmx?

can you connect other cv/gate synths to the back? Not only Oberheim stuff. I assume CV/GATE is an universal protocol, right? thank you!!!
@@Jedson66 Yes, I had luck controlling an SH-101 and a Eurorack system with the DSX’s CV/Gate outputs.
How do you change programs with the sequencer?
epic
Seems like you could speed it up a bit. ❤
What hi hat sound is that, doesn't sound stock.

what keyboard stands are those?
Ultimate Support A-frame stands from the 80s.
