Oberheim System workflow demo
A quick demo of putting together a song - as in sequence of sequences - on the pre-MIDI Oberheim System. Not really a musical statement, mostly to show the workflow of these vintage machines.

Roland System-500, polyphonic Juno-style pad

Using an Oberheim OB-8 and DSX to control a pair of Roland System-500 sets. You are only hearing the System-500 voices in this clip. I've dialed in a Juno style pad but took advantage of the extra LFOs. 2hp Buff splits the pitch CV between oscillator and filter without risking ruining tracking, 2hp Mix mixes the four voices down, and 2hp Trim is used between LFOs and splitters to ensure consist...
Marshall JTM60 after removing clipping diodes (and a few other tweaks)

And after removing the clipping diodes and adjusting the preamp values as follows: (Remove R104, C105, and D101-104) R46: 470k with 470p cap R117: 2k7 C117: .68u R121: 100k add a 470p cap across R126 add a 2n cap across R127 (high voltage) This gets the lead channel closer to the Soldano Hot Mod. Well, I ordered 2n caps and they sent me 1n. I also added a 22u across R124 for a little more body....

Comparing the clean and lead channels of the JTM60, before removing the lead channel clipping diodes. Guitar used in this before video as well as the after video is a PRS Custom 24 30th Anniversary with the 85/15 pickups introduced with that guitar.

Just showing that the SH-101 I have for sale is working. EDIT TO ADD: Now long sold. This was actually my second 101, bought on the cheap to fix and flip. I still have my first 101. The reverb, I think, was a Boss RV-5.
Marshall Studio Vintage cascaded

A quick tone demo of my Marshall Studio Vintage that has been cascaded, normal into bright. Not a demo of my playing skills. Settings are (presence/bass/middle/treble/bright volume/normal volume) 2/7/7/5/8/10. A One Wire Mod amp can be extremely muddy, so some values need to be changed. Mesa Boogie DC-5 lead channel mod

A quick test of my conversion for the Mesa Boogie Dual Caliber series lead channel. Tone stack controls moved to before the gain, second tone stack disabled, and gain restructured based on the 22/50 Caliber. @@Jedson66 Yes, I had luck controlling an SH-101 and a Eurorack system with the DSX’s CV/Gate outputs.

What hi hat sound is that, doesn't sound stock.
Later DMX voice cards supported longer samples, and I bought one of those, then configured it to be a hi-hat with the long version of the hi-hat sample.

Did you sync the sequencer to the drum machine? Or the drum machine to the sequencer?

Sadly, my OB-8 is now down. It got stuck in a loop of triggering the tuning routine and I have confirmed it is not just a stuck button. I have the Alesis MMT-8, which has a similar workflow to the DSX, both were designed by Marcus Ryle.
@@100DollarHeadache Sorry to hear that homie! If you are near Vegas I have an honest repair guy!!! Your setup is still smoking without it!!! I have a Moog, Prologue 16, and Drumtraks/Tr-08 setup myself, ran digitally!!! Nothing beats Analog especially if you are going for these types of grooves, but if you are near Vegas lmk, I'm looking for songwriters for my production company!!!

Thanks for the video.Have you ever tried to sequence a midi synth with the DSX by keeping the CV's?You can do this with latest firmware OB8 and DSX.

Curious. How close the Oberheim hardware’s layout is compared to those of the EMU SP sampler ‘groove-boxes’. The row of fader pots that slide a good distance. And those rugged, clicky mechanical push buttons. Seeing this makes me wonder if those gears actually pre-date the Xpander by a good few years? If anyone deserves an Xpander for X-mas, it’s this guy!!
Yep, the Oberheim System predates MIDI. My OB-8 did not come with MIDI stock, so I bought the DSX for it. I had to wait for custom side panels to be able to install the MIDI, I'm not a fan of aftermarket case drilling. The Xpander also has CV/Gate inputs, so it'd work with the DSX and really complete the system.

I don't think so. There's quite a bit more to be done to revoice the amp.

I was going to send you a DM (we used to chat about synths years ago), but I guess YT removed this functionality! Nice. Anyways I got a bunch of new synths (I still have the Jupiter-4, JUNO-60 and Polymoog) and discovered a lot of things for patch design; I've been into formant synthesis of late. The Boutique models have been pretty funny, 'ACB' tries to perfectly emulate the raw waveforms, but they forgot about the most important thing: properly emulating the filters and chorus which is actually impossible to do on software anyways. Oops.
is the 75pf cap on the schematic? The mods you did certainly smoothed out the gain, is like a 50 cal with tone stack for each channels. Right now you may be playing it with a smile on your face. keep on rocking man !
