I have always been a Hardcore Rocker, but The Carpenters have always mellowed my mind. Karen's voice was so soothing plus she was a local girl. She was truly missed the day she died. The city of Downey mourned her for many years . We miss you Karen

There’s not a soul alive that doesn’t fall in love with her magical voice. She considered herself drummer first. A fuqing QUEEN! This was early 70’s. Protagonist for ALL WOMEN

I first heard this just after my 8th birthday in Spring of 1971 and was actually dreaming as it played on my tiny radio. It was a haunting dream in which I saw a sad girl just walking around aimlessly. It haunts me to this day yet I love this song so much. Paul William's wrote this song sometime after having a conversation with his mother. Afterwards she walked away mumbling to herself which is what inspired him to write this. He wrote several songs that became big hits for the Carpenters and other artists.

    Michelle LaMar
    Psych nurse here.
But Few people realize that anorexia nervosa has The Highest mortality rate of any mental illness. Starvation causes severe damage to the heart and other organs of the body. Karen got well below 90 lbs. I think I read she took 90 laxatives a day.
Even today, It’s an INCREDIBLY difficult disorder to recover from. Relapses are common.
A very high percentage of severe Anorexics die.
Karen suffered When not even doctors understood it very well. Regular people had never even HEARD of eating disorders. Her fans would gasp at her appearance when she walked on stage. Her brother, her family and friends saw what was happening but had absolutely no idea how to help. You can yell at an anorexic all day long to eat but that does not work.
In the end, she did seek treatment. But the doctors used IV nutrition to put too much weight on too quickly, (30 lbs in a couple weeks) further straining her heart. She was proud of her progress, saying “look at me, I’ve got an a$$!!“ But she collapsed in the closet at her parents’ home while dressing early one morning and was pronounced dead after arriving at the hospital.
It literally was Karen’s death that brought eating disorders to the news. Shortly after Karen’s death, Princess Diana acknowledged Her own struggle with an eating disorder.

Omg , this was an earlier recording.. she was behind the drums when they first started & had to be talked into coming out in front. She hated it too. Grew up listening to them.
    Favorite 3 songs

Now, was her last recording and my favorite but the sadness revelation her life in a nutshell . You Rock !

Great reaction! I love Karen -- her voice, just like you said, is the voice of an angel. My top three Carpenters' songs? Probably Superstar, Close to You, and Rainy Days and Mondays. Honourable mentions to We've Only Just Begun, Yesterday Once More, Only Yesterday, and her cover of the Eagles' Desperado.

  • @jezdfax

The female background vocals is actually Karen singing. Brother Richard was an amazing arranger and developed, patented an overdub trademark to capture her voice and to make it sound like a choir of people singing. He was the brains and talent behind their sound.

Most, if not all of the time, when you hear background vocals they are just Karen and her brother Richard. They would sing harmonies together and then double that several times in the studio, creating their own "choir" of just their voices.

A couple of things, you respect the music, you always go back a few seconds after pausing and your personal comments make me enjoy your channel above and beyond the rest, thank you for showing love for the older generation - adding a few decades to music doesn't change the love for it - it warms my heart, like you said "Timeless" and now i feel like i should return the respect by listening to more rap music, why not?

Karen Carpenter was one of the greatest female vocalist of all times, beautiful amazing voice no auto-tune no back woods tricks just straight up talent. Check out their hit song from 1970 that pretty much started it all for the Carpenters. Check out the song CLOSE TO YOU, find a video on UA-cam that lasts at least up to 3:41, enjoy. ua-cam.com/video/oaOyoVS-IAI/v-deo.html

  • @Tijuanabill

Tbh it really didn't matter how you recorded it back then, you had to play it live, with no auto tune. Bands that didn't tour, you knew what was up. But really the only reason they had her stop playing drums later on, was because you could hardly see her back there behind the drums, and they wanted her pretty face up front.
