As I mentioned in one of my comments about mortgages: this is moving toward how it's set up in places like Germany. I lived as a self-employed person there for 12 years and never qualified for a credit card, period. My closest gang of people there were real estate people, accountants, and well-paid artists. And even those people had problems to get decent mortgages (remember the huge down payments), and very small credit lines. It's just not a thing there. It was a hell for me there to get ahead there. I was so happy to move to the USA where people like me (from a "developing" eastern European country) at least have a shot to make it in money matters.

What I don't like are the number of ads on your channel that interrupt you mid sentence and seem to show up every minute and a half. I am all for helping my favorite YT'ers get paid by ad revenue, but by about the fifth ad interruption I began to question why I was watching. Not sure if you can control this or if YT does.
I was hoping this was going to be some magical news that credit card companies are deferring payments with no penalties or something like that #wishfulthinking
Sleeping on the Wells Fargo Propel Card. $0 annual fee, 3% on food/gas/streaming services/travel, 1% everything else. Also perks like travel and purchase insurance. And a sign up bonus! Can’t find a free card better than that.
I'm in Colorado. King Soopers (Kroger) grocery store offered me a new credit card (no annual fee) and it gives me 65 cents off each gallon of gas I buy, up to 35 gallons at ea. Purchase! I've used it 7 times in 4 months (using gas cans after my tank was full).GREAT deal for me, 50 cents a gallon for my gas now ($1.15 a gallon reg now) for the next 8more months! Highly recommended, saved me over $200 bucks so far.
0:20 rewinded that part so many times - "and the stock market acts a fool..." - AIN'T THAT THE TRUTH! Good gracious; that thang's sooooo unpredictable.
Be careful with doing step one with American express, they will literally ask you for ton of paper work, which could get to the point of them cancel your credit cards with them in the extreme cases if your paper work is not good. Like if you do not have job.
Amex Platinum calc for those of you who like me were interested to know what the net was: $40 credit x 12 = $480. Fee is -$550. Net Cost (if you only use those bonus and not the $200 flight voucher) = $70.
Awesome. I was able to get a savings account started before all this went down I now have like $1.4k in savings and have paid a little over $1k on my $6k credit debt.
I've been afraid of this since all this started and I'm glad someone is finally talking about it. Let me preface that my businesses have actually gone up and March and April have been my best months since we've been in business (well one, the other is closed due to restrictions, but I'm still even more in the black than before, even accounting for that one being closed and making 0 revenue). I am absolutely terrified of banks cutting down my credit lines after building them up for years. Between my personal and business cards, I charge anywhere between $40-50k on my credit cards every month, and usually pay it off in full. Any and every business expense that can be put on a card goes on a card. Even cutting my main business card to a (comparatively high) $30k limit makes it useless unless I make payments every week. I have no problem paying the annual fees of the CSR and my Spark Business card. I more than get my money's worth. I have over 200k chase UR points just sitting there thinking I'll just use it when I go on vacation when all this is over. Now I'm freaking out. Do I need to cash them out before they decide to close my account because they might think I'm "high risk" even though I've never missed a payment and I'm actually making more money than ever? Do they think I'm spending more because I'm "in trouble" and not because I can't keep my shelves stocked? I'm not even sure how I would operate my business without credit cards. Debit cards have a laughably low daily limit. ACH transfers? That's a pain. Checks? What year is this? I don't even accept checks, too high chance of fraud and who wants to wait 10 days for it to clear? The only payment method we even accept is credit card. The 3% is just built in to our prices and it's a cost of doing business. Is this going to impact everyone else down the line and now customers are going to start paying with checks, or worst yet, cash?
IV Probably time to start developing “Private Capital”, with Investors and Lenders that are outside the traditional Banking / Credit Markets. Companies that are traditionally growing faster than their credit / traditional lenders will allow them often turn to Private Capital Markets. Cheers!
@@davidc2838 The problem isn't capital. It's about ease of paying. Only one company I do business with charges me more for paying with a credit card. I do so little business with them that saving less $30/month after factoring in the cash back isn't worth the headache of mailing a check or setting up ach. Everyone else charges me the same no matter how I pay. Sure with vendors that I have net terms I can just mail them a check once a month instead of telling them to charge my card. Most of my vendors though expect payment before delivery and credit card is by far the easiest way, especially when I'm doing a bunch of small orders instead of one big order. (just the nature of the business). I'd need to hire someone full time whose only job would be to write checks or do ACH transfers if I didn't have credit cards. My vendors just have my credit card on file, charge whatever needs to be charged, and email me an invoice.
@@al8685 I hate cash. At my other business we simply stopped accepting cash. Banks charge businesses (not personal accounts, usually) to deposit cash. BoA charges you .3% to deposit cash. This is industry standard. ALL BANKS (big and small) charge about the same. Cash gets lost. Incorrect change is given. Cash makes you subject to robberies. If you handle enough cash, you will absolutely get counterfeit money, which is immediately lost when you try to deposit it at a bank. Honestly, the only reason to accept cash is to cheat on your taxes. I'm sure if you add up the costs of paying your employees to go to the bank every day (or an armored car service), incorrect change given, cash deposit fees, and counterfeit money, you'd find in the long run, cash probably costs about the same. Not to mention if you're paying 3% for card present, you're getting ripped off. I pay (very slightly) less than that if someone gives me a business amex over the phone (which is the most expensive card to process) Also, I am not mailing envelopes stuffed with cash to make payments to companies not in my area. Not only would I probably be accidentally breaking some obscure money laundering law, what if it gets lost? What's stopping some rogue employee from sneaking a few twenties in their pocket then calling me and saying hey you're $200 short.
I've always wondered how people live off of credit cards as someone who only after 15 years of banking got ONE. Never thought about lying about my income.
Just cancelled some of my credit cards with high annual fee (especially since I’m not traveling)... it was super easy and they refunded me the membership fee if it was within 30days of when the fee posted
R M I’ve been told that it doesn’t matter because I pay off all of my credit card balance in full each month, and I have additional credit elsewhere, if needed.
100% true. My credit line got slashed by $1500 with no warning and not even a notice after the fact. Also, now there’s a big “confirm your income” button in the apps home screen.
Thanks for all the info Graham! I recently got the Chase Freedom Unlimited card last year and used it to add a bathroom to convert a bedroom into a studio that we now rent out. Rent over the 15 months will pay off the card with zero interest and leave me with 100% cash flow. Literally no money down REI haha
AMEX Card holders:It should be noted that although we aren't traveling or using ubers, buying airline gift cards (credit card hackers usually recommend $50/card or less) or using uber eats can trigger the $200 airline and $15 uber credit.
What bothers me more about all this is not credit card bonus deadlines, but I'm paying the same rent for features I can no longer use ( on-site fitness center, the pool, the playground, the community barbeque) plus I can't get repairs done now. The light fixture in the kitchen went bad so I have to use a flashlight, the dishwasher doesn't work, and the washing machine periodically shreds clothes. But no discounts have been offered. In fact they raised my rent another $100 a month. Even our car insurance company says they will given us 20% off due to not driving at all. Property management companies are crooks!
Just got approved for the double cash card thanks to your recommendation. Can’t wait to use it to further optimize my spending. Love your content Graham, it’s really changed my life financially. Destroyed the like button👍🏼💥

Great Tips as always Graham! If you can be RESPONSIBLE with your credit cards and use them as a tool for financial freedom read on. Placing all your purchases on a 0% interest credit card can earn you 2% or more in cash back and then free you up to stash that money into a high yield savings earning another 1.5% or more in interest. On top of that many offer a signup bonus awarding $150 or more if you spend a certain amount within their designated time frame. You will still have to pay minimum payments during that time but as long as you keep more money in the savings account than the balance on your card you will set yourself up to pay it off before the end of the 0% promo period and make some extra money. Just don't buy anything you wouldn't have bought anyway with your own cash. It may also allow you to pay off any other high interest debt quicker without having to use a balance transfer which is typically a 3% or higher fee. The sooner you figure out that you should never be paying 10% let alone 20% or more to borrow money the better. Getting out of all high interest debt means you are going to have a much brighter future! Compounding interest is great when investing but you never want to apply that same principle when you are the one owing the money! Yes they are counting on you to stumble and pay them penalties and fees but with a bit of planning you can break that cycle of debt and get used to investing $1000-$2000 a month so that you will have money to fall back on when unexpected events occur. You will still want to keep any credit card debt below 20% of your total credit line but this is your chance to prove them wrong and make the credit cards work for you instead of against you. My favorite cards for Cash Back: American Express Blue Cash Preferred Card (6% Grocery stores, streaming, 3% gas stations with $95 fee) Amazon Prime Rewards Visa (5% Amazon, 2% restaurants, gas stations, drug stores) Citibank Double Cash Mastercard (2% on everything) Once you get that 3-6 months reserve built up you can start looking at stock market and real estate investing and really get ahead. Oh, and don't forget to smash that like button for the UA-cam algorithm. :)
I’m a current Sapphire Reserve card holder, annual fee was reduced back to $450 for this year after it was supposed to be increased to $550. So it has that going for it as well.
9:53 As someone who owns this credit card I can't recommend this enough, I run my balance to 58% and pay it off in big chunks month to month to give my debt some age. Went from no credit to 700+ in just 6 months of owning it. Treat credit cards as debit cards.
when this is all over i think graham should do a giveaway where whoever wins gets added as a authorized user on one of his cards for a certain amount of time to boost credit scores🤷♂️
Hi, after being an authorized user and having your score rise, what happens when you decide to cancel being an authorized user? Do you still have that score or does it go back to 0 and have to start over on your own?
Hey Graham. Thanks for putting the context i. The description. I didn't watch the video because I got my quick answer. I gave you a well deserved thumbs up. I usually don't bother because I'm a lazy millennial, but you deserved the thumbs up for the YT algorithm. Thanks again
when i applied for my first credit card, they asked for my income. i told them it was 20k (i was part time while going to college) they gave me a 15k credit limit. to this day i have no idea why they would trust me with that
First determine what you can pay based on your monthly budget and make a rule that if you have to use the card not to go over what you can completely pay off on next months bill. Second no matter how much you want something if you can save for a couple of months then buy it that is key. Keep these simple rules and you will not be in tens of thousands of dollars in credit card debt like so so so many people. They may brag about the sales price they got their newest game console or living room furniture but buy the time you add in the interest they are paying they could have bought 7 new game consoles and 3 new living room sets. Keep smart, stay smart, you will go far.
Thanks for the information. Da facts...for profit businesses, don't risk their money during financial Events. This just happens to not be to... indebted people's advantage. Use debt and don't let debt abuse your future finances ever. Last crisis, I got my all my accts reduced and to top it off beautifully....they raised my interest rate from below 6% to above 15%. Lessoned freaking learned. I became credit card debt free on 1 May.
I've said this before but I want to say it again The problem with your videos is that all the click baiting, the eccentric thumbnails and the begging for likes makes it seem a little unprofessional and it makes your videos feel similar to the hundreds of other UA-camrs who are offering garbage investing advice and crappy get rich schemes. However behind all of that click baiting and like begging your advice is actually golden. Your investing advice is really mature and appropriate and I'm glad you're making these videos!

UA-cam premium. Watch all the vids you want without ads. UA-cam creators don't like that because they don't care about your time. Even Granham has mentioned that you hopefully aren't blocking ads.

As great as credit cards can be in rewards, I found over the years that I am just way to impulsive to make a credit card make sense. Until today I have carried a credit card balance for the last 9 years. I finally paid off my last card and called and canceled them all. It feels amazing. Maybe ill try them again someday when I am more responsible with my money but for now I'm going to kick the credit and cash my life from now on.
That was us in the early 2000s! We were so overwhelmed that we paid everything off (or negotiated a lower payment - we were very overextended) and lived completely cc-free, using only cash, for the next 15 years. Got into the credit card points game a little over a year ago, getting our first credit cards in decades, and we have had no trouble controlling our spending because we were so used to spending only what was in our checking acct. I didn't actually think it was possible to live without a credit card (for emergencies! I said) but it is totally do-able. Just requires a reset of the brain and a HARD look at what is a "want" vs a "need" ..... Good job recognizing limitations and knowing you need time to build your willpower. If you do ever need a credit card again, you'll be in a place of power & strength! :-D
My capital one quicksilver is my daily driver because it has always been 1.5% cash back. Adds up quickly. I dump it as a statement credit at the end of the month, because why not? Low limit but the rest sit with zero balances.
You've inspired me to start my channel and to try and help others Graham, thank you!!! Keep up the great work, you've also inspired me to start my own investment journey too :) Left a like for the UA-cam algorithm 😉

Love my Citi Double Cash card! I've had it for five years, and can say that they put out limited time offers of 0% to 15% APR to existing card holders. It's an excellent card, especially if you're the type who puts your regular expenses on the card and pay it all off.
Thanks to you Graham, I opened my Discover It Card about 6 months ago when I turned 18 and followed your advice. Now my credit score is 730-750!

6:14, be careful! Some banks will issue a hard pull for asking for a credit limit increase.
1) I would not over charge i pay off every 7 days
2) they drop my limit I drop them no exceptions

Hey now... I'll still be using my Chase Sapphire Reserve to travel! I'm looking forward to it!

IV
Probably time to start developing “Private Capital”, with Investors and Lenders that are outside the traditional Banking / Credit Markets.
I dont think most businesses will get a lower limit. i think it's of the personal CC accounts.
What's wrong with cash? You get an extra 3%!
I pay (very slightly) less than that if someone gives me a business amex over the phone (which is the most expensive card to process)
Also, I am not mailing envelopes stuffed with cash to make payments to companies not in my area. Not only would I probably be accidentally breaking some obscure money laundering law, what if it gets lost? What's stopping some rogue employee from sneaking a few twenties in their pocket then calling me and saying hey you're $200 short.

My favorite cards for Cash Back:
American Express Blue Cash Preferred Card (6% Grocery stores, streaming, 3% gas stations with $95 fee)
Amazon Prime Rewards Visa (5% Amazon, 2% restaurants, gas stations, drug stores)
Citibank Double Cash Mastercard (2% on everything)
Once you get that 3-6 months reserve built up you can start looking at stock market and real estate investing and really get ahead.
Oh, and don't forget to smash that like button for the UA-cam algorithm. :)
Jokes on them, cashed out all my credit as soon as the cysis started
stimulus check went straight to credit card debt!
I have notifications on, I open them immediately... WHY AM I NEVER FIRST!?

This was genuine. Lol ik i sound sarcastic but i really do appreciate you typing the answer to the title in the description
when i applied for my first credit card, they asked for my income. i told them it was 20k (i was part time while going to college)
they gave me a 15k credit limit. to this day i have no idea why they would trust me with that
They normally give higher amounts then reasonable to young adults to trap them in a debt cycle
Yep I was in that trap. Dave Ramsey saved me
First determine what you can pay based on your monthly budget and make a rule that if you have to use the card not to go over what you can completely pay off on next months bill.
I saw someone apply and get approved for a Walmart credit card who put "$0" as their income. Smdh.
They want to get you early into the debt trap.
That’s why I love navy federal. I literally have non of these problems.
