I flew Turkish Airlines LHR-IST-ECN about 5 years ago, before Ercan Airport was expanded (it was a pretty small terminal back then, so the new extension looks very impressive). Northern Cyprus is an interesting place to visit. I remember lots of Russians and many other nationalities there - as I think the vast majority of the world's citizens can travel there visa free, so it's a popular holiday spot for many. Turkish is a solid airline, and I'm looking forward to flying with them again next year.
Did 14 hours straight from Istanbul to Houston TX on Turkish Air back in 2017. It was quite enjoyable. Nice, clean plane, friendly staff, good food. As pleasant as a 14 hour flight can be for an average seat.
Wow impressive, I think the pasty you had was called burek as we flew home last night from Albania and I believe we had the same , thanks superb content as always
Nice Video! Turkish Airlines is a World Class Airline which i love to fly ✈️ 😊 i hope Ercan Airport and TRNC will receive international Routes and Recognition one day ❤
Good video. Why A350 -It may be carrying a lot of cargo. IB does LHR-MAD with wide bodies to support cargo between the two IAG airline hubs. This route IST-ECN is bit longer flight than EDI-SYY nearly 600 miles
I flew from Malaysia to the UK and back in Turkish Airlines business class a year ago. It was an amazing experience. Everything from check in to inflight service and the incredible lounge at Istanbul Airport was superb. The food onboard was the best inflight catering I've ever had and I've been flying internationally for over 45 years. They are now my go-to airline for my trips to Europe.
Really like the business class product and the lounge at IST is one of the best in the world. Ercan Airport is a stunning building but has delusions of grandeur with 80 check in desks! I remember the days of Kibris Turkish Airlines flying from the UK to Ercan with a stopover on the Turkish mainland.
Other airlines have a lot to learn from TURKISH AIRLINES so they are the best.Turkiye is the best destination for European people. Thanks Dom to show us the reality.
Thank you for your very kind words and generous donation. Türkiye is always a country that amazes me, I very much hope to explore more & sample what it has to offer very soon. Thanks once again you generosity is greatly appreciated. Have a great day.
I don't know 100%, but I imagine in addition to filling the passenger cabin, the A350 is used because of it's freight capacity, given the fact that the TRNC imports a huge amount of things from the Turkish mainland. Really fun video, I've never been to IST airport, Ive either driven or flown to SAW, looked impressive.
Using long haul wide body aircraft on short haul routes is often done for freight capacity reasons. BA and Iberia both operate wide bodies between London and Madrid for that reason.
Great video again! The prices don't seem that bad either, I guess if you're like me that likes an airport lounge then business would probably be the way to go 👍
I'm really loving the more vlog style presentation you've been doing and making us feel like we're travelling along with you, you're a thoroughly entertaining guy! :D
Thank you Rosie I'm glad you like it! I'm Definitely trying to make more of an effort to push the Vlog style of content rather than just airline reviews. Its my pleasure to take you all along with me 😁 & Much more to come soon.
Sometimes relatively long haul new fleet adds are employed on short routes to build up pilot take off and landing experience. So, for example here in Colombia when Avianca first got Dreamliners there were occasional mid afternoon flights (between long haul schedules) from Bogota to Cartagena which can be less than an hour in the air.
The name is pronounced as erjan. The new terminal was made this big in hopes that it will be able to have flights to other countries in the future, but due to the TRNC being unrecognised by any country other than turkey it can't have flights to others. The EU threatens to ban any airline that operates to Ercan from their airspace, like in the early 2000s where an Azerbaijani airline almost immediately revoked their new route to Ercan after threats from the EU.
I was wondering which short-haul flights Turkish flies widebodies to, so this route is a good idea to test out the product! The plan for my channel in 2025 is to feature more budget-friendly business/first class content, mostly within the US. And honestly, just the lounge buffet alone is worth the ticket...oh, and the coffee of course.
Awesome stuff Dom! Looks like you lucked out and got one of the special Aeroflot derived A350s (Turkish nabbed a few of these delivery slots from Airbus after the sanctions and they came with the Russian carrier's seats) as this isn't the typical product in their newer business class cabins (I flew on one of their older A350s which had the same product as their 787 fleet)
Thanks, I didn't know is was one of the ones meant for Aeroflot! As you say this isn't the typical product, your making me want to try them on a longer route 😉
This is going to shock many on here but, we just flew JFK-IST-MAD-IST-JFK, the IST-MAD-IST legs were on a 737 and they were great, the longhaul flights, I was so looking forward to them, we knew going in we were on aircraft with the 2-2-2 seating, but traveling as a couple we were fine with that. What amazed me was how bad the food was, easily the worst business class food we've had and when it comes down to it probably in the worst 5 of any class of travel. The lounge at JFK is not great, we ended up moving over to the LH lounge and the IST lounge, good food, but the drink selection is strange to say the least. I was heading back to Europe the following week and ended up cancelling my TK flights and switched to ITA, now those were great flights.
A great video. But I am puzzled by one thing. And that is the number of times you mispronounced Ercan as Akran. It almost sounded like you were talking about Ghana's capital city. Even the checkin agent looked baffled when you said you are flying to Akran. As the review is edited and Ercan was on your boarding pass too, surely you had time to correct the pronunciation ?
Good video 👍 I wonder if the EU paid for that new airport in Northern Cyprus? In 2012 they kindly gave Ford grants and cheap loans to shut down Transit van production in Southampton and shift it to Turkey - not that Turkey is an EU member of course 😉
Dom, Northern Cyprus is only recognised at a place by Turkey so you will NEVER see any airlines other than Turkish origin, sorry to say so the airport is a white elephant. Also every flight only goes to destinations in Turkey! Nice video. 😁 Any spotting Hotels next to new Istanbul Airport? I hear it’s in middle of no where and terrible for spotting. 😢
Northern Cyprus is not a country). It is only recognized by Turkey. It is not recognized by either the UN or EU. You could encounter problems entering the Republic of Cyprus. I know someone who took the ferry from Turkey to Northern Cyprus earlier in the summer. She was refused entry to the Republic of Cyprus. Entering the Republic of Cyprus through the north, such as through Ercan Airport, is considered illegal. Consequences for illegal entry include: - Fining - Refusal of entry or exit from the Republic of Cyprus - Prevention from crossing back into the north of Cyprus. Be aware. It is known by many Greek Cypriots as "The occupied zone." But the coffee on the flight was nice, so that's all that matters.
If the Turks had not intervened, the situation of the Turks in Cyprus would be like the Palestinians now. Thank God, there has been peace for 50 years, we do not care about the hypocritical politics of the world, our priority is the Turks. Secondly, there is a metro at Istanbul airport and you can go wherever you want.
@@UnbelievableEricthegiraffe That was going through my mind as I was watching and wondered if Dom had known about the entry/exit issues before he entered Northern Cyprus. But he did appear very pleased to get the stamp in his passport!
@@fritzfrostick6910 Let me tell you some details about this issue. I am Turkish citizen. In usual, If I personally fly to Northern Cyprus, I can't go to Southern Cyprus within the island. NO WAY AT ALL. And we mostly fly to Northern Cyprus with our Turkish ID card, not with our Turkish passport. Because, If we use our passport we will have a entrance stamp to Nothern Cyprus and this is dangerous for us that we can't get any kind of schengen visa in the future. The only way for us to visit southern Cyprus is to get schengen visa and fly to Greece and fly again to the southern side. Maybe Dom had no any problem on this issue because he is already citizen of UK. And also there is one thing that most of the people don't know, only people who were born on the island has entrance rights by car or by foot from northern to southern side or opposite since 2003. As this was talked by Dom in the video, the people of the island ( Turks and Greeks) were living together before
Which class on Turkish Airlines do you think is worth it?
Turkish airlines is the king of the skies
