Not only do I wish the G8 Galileo had the issues you presented addressed (minus the PS Mode defaults as that is a non-issue for me), but I wish it had a cooling system on top of that.

I just grabbed the G8 for my 15 Pro Max since the Backbone Gen 2 was being a pain in Delta Emulator. 3:10am right now and it'll be here later this morning between 7am and 10am. So I got a lot of the day to do gaming on Delta :D.

@@DivinusAeternum just wanted to chime in and say I have both and the battery life does seem worse on the G8 but it's soooo much more comfortable than the X2 Pro because of the grips on the G8. It is pretty much as if you're holding an XBox controller in your hand, it's just extended to fit a phone/tablet. If you're on the fence about it, let me do you a favor and push you toward the G8 lol. I don't think you'll be sorry at all.👍

@@DivinusAeternum Yes I think it's really close to feeling like you're holding a real Xbox controller and it's way better than using a clip with a real Xbox controller. With that set-up, it always felt to me that it was way too top heavy...so much so that it always felt like my phone was going to fall out of the clip any second. I hated that feeling plus it made my hands tired after only a few minutes of playing. The X2 is not bad but you just don't have those hand grips like you do on the G8 and that makes all the difference in comfort to me. Hope this helps you decide.👍

IMO both you and Gamesir itself undersold the 3.5 mm jack a ton cause it isn't a normal 3.5mm in / 3.5mm out passtrough (which isn't worth that much now that all better phones don't have a 3.5mm jack anymore since a few generations already) but is instead grabing the audio signal from the USB port!
Most USB based Android gamepads support USB charging passtrough only cause it is easy to separate the data signal and the power lines of an USB port. To support multiple USB devices on one port (in this case an input device and an USB Audio device) you need an active HUB in contrast, which is an additional cost factor that most gamepads don't have.
So why is this important for anybody other than a few weirdos that still prefer wired headphones even on the go? Cause the Bluetooth codecs that nearly all phones are limited to have horrible input lag, that while hidden when watching video (cause the video players on both Android and iOS delay the video input to sync with the delayed audio when they detect you using a BT headset) it is extremely noticeable while playing games. Apple doesn't support anything remotely low latency on their mobile devices, Samsung while having been a pioneer in supporting old school aptX for a better audio quality is nowadays to cheap to support even aptX Adaptive (and of course never supported the older but way better aptX LL that the Steamdeck OLED now has) and many of the few phones that actually have aptx Adaptive only implemented it via a slow software encoder that eats away most latency advantages of the codec.
So, a 3.5mm jack off of an USB Audio source allows you to not only sidestep the latency problem completely with wired headphones or you can just buy a portable Bluetooth transmitter with support for the right codec for your headphones. Its a bit of a shame that they didn't make the USB port fully functional considering how many aptX LL / aptX Adaptive Bluetooth USB-C adapter for Switch users are on Amazon.
Sadly though another USB gamepad not made for Fold devices (which have their USB port on the wrong side in landscape) so I am staying with BT.

Great video/review!! Just got mine 3 days ago and I absolutely love it but had no idea about the grinding on the joysticks until I watched your video...and sure enough, mine grinds too in the exact same places as your test unit. That's a let down for sure and I kind of wish I hadn't seen your video now lol. That being said though, it's still by far the best I've used for my S22+ to date and I can't recommend it enough!!👍

Great review, to me the original razor Kishii was the best, the only thing it had a rubber stretch thing in the back no telescopic so it was loose exactly as you just described with yours even though it's telescopic.
I got the Razor Kishii V2 this has a telescopic back and I dislike it the buttons are cramped the sticks are low profile and they jammed the triggers with memory buttons a complete failure.
If we can just get razor Kishii version 1.. with a telescopic back I would be happy.
Also I noticed both razor Kishii even though it has passed through for charging it did not do fast charging so that was a letdown for that one also.
Love your honesty they had me until it was loose, that's the number one thing that matters to me is how secure something feels.
They really messed up on the USBC Port because if you're going to make it where it moves that is what's causing it not being firm, at least make it if it does move like you said Bend left and right and up and down otherwise just make it Universal it don't move.
I agree about their app it's really not worth it, back in the day it was almost necessary I owned a very old Bluetooth telescopic but it was nice and tight.
I don't know why every company has to always screw up one major thing either it's the d-pad or something with the buttons and their case to me it's the fact that it was loose and not firmly intact the phone.
Really like the shoulder buttons on this one nice and large.

I'm so bummed that the USB -C port on the G8 Galileo isn't long enough to plug into my phone with the case on, so its pretty much useless I have to send it back. I can't possibly be taking my phone in and out of its case several times a day, its takes forever and is hard on my fingers, and almost breaks every time I do it.
I could get an extender but then it wouldn't fit in at all.... crimeny. You'd think with all the thought they put into design they would have realized people have phone cases

this controller is amazing, happily replaced my 1st gen razer kishi. Playing a lot of spiritfarer and snes/ds emulation. Ergonomics has all the upsides of xbox-shaped controllers
Dpad is not to my liking, but it's way better than the kishi and I'm a "analog even for street fighter 2" kind of guy anyway, so it's not an issue. I have one case for the s23 that does not fit, but other, thinner cases do.
Passtrough charging is, unfortunately, slow (maybe 5W only?), so it's conceivable that high intensity games still drain battery while charging.
PS mode by default might be because it's mode compatible with ios.

I’m very conflicted. I’m at odds between this and the turtle beach atom. I honestly prefer turtles awesome design but abhor the complete lack of a c port to plug directly into my phone. It is strictly wireless port which means there is absolutely no passive charging while playing. And I do find myself laying back gaming on my phone for hours just as much as I would on console
Both devices have huge trade offs that I wish I could get all in one controller. If only the atom had a c type port it would be a no brainer.

There's no information online available that could help me solve the problem, however, I've seen posts of other g8 owners who have the same issue with different buttons. When you test the buttons, the unresponsive one is flickers red or is permanently red when you press the M button. I don't know if it's hardware or software, but I can tell you this feeling sucks. I bought the G8 Galileo a while back and when I first docked my phone into it and fiddled with the buttons I accidentally triggered a mode change in one of the analog triggers. It took a little digging through the instructions to figure out what I'd done and how to change the setting back, but the sheer range of customisation of the buttons on this thing has really impressed me. It would pair really well with the GameSir G8 controller. And would be the best way to dip your toes into the Apple ecosystem.

I recieved this controller about a week ago & on the grinding on my left thumbstick is bad enough that after a weeks worth of on off usage there is a visible curve cut into the thumbstick.
Very concerning about the longevity of the controller without any modifications

Great review. I love the hall effect analog stick. But what stops me for getting this is that I have to take out my phone in its case everytime I'm going to use this one. And seeing how it easily moves around while connected that's a huge red flag for me. Guess I'll stick to the bluetooth ones.

you could cut the rubber grip on the right side in order to make the usb plug stick out more. that's what I did with my X2 Pro and unless you have a very thick case it should work with no issues (testet with xiaomi 11t pro and samsung s23 ultra, both with average size cases).

      @bobaScriptt 9 місяців тому +1

Hey, like the other person recommend, the rubber to the left and right of the USB C port is super easy to remove. Just get a razor blade, and stick it in diagnol to the edge of it, and then slowly rip it off. It's just held by some minor adhesive.
I have a Z Flip 4 with the Spigen Tough Armor [Hinge Protection] case, and it works on my Gamesir X2 Pro no problem. It's a thicccc case too.
I have the G8 now, but I went and bought a Motorola G Play 2023 for $10, and use that as a dedicated cloud gaming device to the G8. I am sure the mod is the exact same on G8 as it was on the X2 Pro. Although, the G8 has been designed to accommodate a lot of slim-medium cases now. Much better the the X2 Pro could.

There are low profile cases available for most phones. Also, I think I saw a magnetic USB c attachment for phone charging. Just get the female and male ones and connect one on the controller, and the other to the phone.

I have gamesir x2 pro. Based on this review I still like it over the g8. It has Xbox branded buttons and buttons are automatically mapped to android mode, I don't think the joysticks are hall effect but they do not have a grinding problem in the corner like the g8. The triggers are hall effect on the x2 and everything works well with Gamepass. You have to take your phone out of the case for both of these controllers but my phone does not move up and down with the x2 like is shown in this video. The only gripe I have with the x2 is that the grips aren't as ergonomic as g8 and a known issue is that pass through charging does not work while playing on pixel 7 pro. Not sure if it is the same case for the g8.

This might be an obvious oone but im not familiar with many controllers apart from PS and Xbox. But what is the point (or the use-case) for the different size thimbstick caps?
I understand that taller sticks can allow finer control for aiming. But different size caps? Thanks if anyone can explain. I already bought this, so waiting for it to arrive 😊

In some cases like I've seen in another video. It's great if the right joystick is in the way of the buttons, or in the case of being like the GameCube controller it's like a nub. (for the small one of course) it's really all preference honestly. Some ppl like the extra accuracy with taller sticks, some like stock height, and some think the tips are in the way.

    • @SlickSloth

if it behaves the same way as the X2 Pro (and other gamesir controllers using usb) then it will definitely work with ppsspp and aethersx2, haven't used duckstation so I can't answer that. with ppsspp it works without any prior setup, with aethersx2 you just have to do the automatic mapping once and it'll work flawlessly. the only thing I noticed that doesn't work properly is trying to remap analog stick inputs to the triggers (tried to remap accelerate/brake from right stick to the triggers for nfs mw and while it technically does accept the inputs they're not analog anymore but I assume that's an issue on the emulator side, not the controller).

How do these types of controllers fair with using tablets? I'm thinking maybe after a while the weight of the tablet in hands would become uncomfortable? I use a ps4 controller with the tablet in a stand on the coffee table, but would like the screen closer.

But it can work if you are a couch/bed player, just use the top of your belly to place the tablet there. 😁

Wish they made lightning or Bluetooth version. Anyone with an iPhone is excluded unless they’ve got the newest iphone. I just got the Bluetooth x2 and overall it’s not bad. Plenty responsive for me. I’m happy with it for the most part. my biggest issue with it is the right thumb stick position. It’s very much in the way of the buttons. You have to hold it awkwardly to avoid it. Would have been great if the thumb stick had been on the top instead of the bottom or even recessed into the controller would have helped. Otherwise pretty nice controller.

@@chriskim5535 it was only killed off a couple months ago. Just because Apple wants to force everyone to update their phones doesn’t mean everyone has or can afford to. There a plenty of people who still have them as this has been their connection type for the past 10 years. I understand not wanting to make hardware for something that’s not produced anymore but this is why i also mentioned Bluetooth as this would accommodate any connection type as well as cases that may cause interference with the connection port.
