But i think the story tells a lot of the fate from what happened to confederate Soldiers after the civil war. The post war pressure on the south was heavy and brought up rifts which are still not mended.
There's another clint western with a similar scene where a man walks in through the saloon doors says hello to clint then leaves but rushes back in but clint has a shotgun aimed at the door already and just blows him away whilst drinking his beer at the same time I think.
