They don't make them like this anymore. I remember watching this movie with my older brother on VHS in his room downstairs when we were kids late at night. I never thought we would be able to "stream" through my laptop. 😢
One of my favorite scenes of the film. Love how that Ferry guy sings the Dixie song in Josey and the kids presence but sings the battle hyme of the republic to the northerners minutes later 😂😂😂
"At best he'll get 2 or 3 down front there"... His own men. Perfect dialog summary of 'Mr. Red Legs' character right there. I never get tired of this Western!!
"At best he'll get 2 or 3 down front there" That line always makes me split my gut laughing. Those "men up front" are obviously doing it for the money. Certainly no respect and admiration for their commander.
He didn't really care about his own Men, but just wanted to get Josey Wales. Mr. Yankee Redlegs:A truly heartless character! It was him and his unit, that slaughtered Josey Wale's Wife and Children, and burned Josey's House to the ground. Mr. Redlegs brought his own eventual death sentence upon himself, and didn't even know it, until Josey finally caught up with him!
I didn't quite understand it as a kid when I saw it at the theater, but it is a classic. The snake oil salesman, the kid, the Indian, Josey..... a true cast of characters.
I first saw this movie on an overseas Marine Corps base when I was ten years old. It’s been one of my favorites ever since. The Marines would get the latest movies from the States and show them to the civilians ever Friday night. I got my picture taken with Clint Eastwood when I was about six or seven, I was already a huge fan
@@tudyk21 You young buck, I saw it at The Catlow Theater in Barrington Illinois with my friend Greg Cavalier. The theater is still there, it has to be a 100 years old with incredible woodwork. It appears the owner might need help keeping it afloat, though. Sad if something happens to it.
My family met him while skiing, he was super cool and agreed to take a picture with me. I was a kid but Clint and John Wayne were larger than life to me, I was starstruck
The dude playing Slim Carstarirs also played a barber in Hang 'em High and the biker who did the Every Which Way But Loose movies. Clint is loyal to his stock players just as Orson Wells was. And Martin Scrocesee.
Love how the scene goes from incredibly tense as we wonder what he will do to a dismissive remark to the carpet bagger the Missura boat ride then the banjo starts playing Dixie and the comedy of the horses falling in. Sweet relief to the audience. Great movie making.
I doubt anyone has commented but that thing is going to float down the river to the ocean unless they jump off and get on land. I wonder if anybody thinks about this stuff
Funniest scene in the movie. I still love the Sharps rifle that was used by Clint Eastwood. You can see that's a converted percussion model 1859 or 1863.
This is a treasure, from a time when the supporting actors played real yokels but with personality that seems very authentic for that time. It's not done that way in modern Western movies. Love it\
I watch every clint eastwood movie when I was a teen. now I'm 68 yrs old. still watching him I just love him. Now movies of today r senless stupid. clint! I heard ur 90 but ur The King ❤️ 😍
Anyone who loves this movie needs to read the book. And the sequel. Clint bought the rights to the sequel, "The Vengeance Trail of Josie Wales", and was supposed to make a movie of it as well. Never happened, unfortunately, as the story is just as good. Highly recommend reading it.
It's realistic when they said he could only get a couple up front. If this movie was made today Josey would fire his rifle and kill them all in rapid fire succession.
Bronco Billy had some good scenes but he wanted a movie to star Sondra Locke in. It wasn't his best. I really didn't like The Gauntlet. Now there was a stinker.@@rodneygilbert5183
When ol' captain Terrell said " at best he'll do is get two or three up front at picking em' off one by one" if i was up front, i'd say then you come up front here our fearless leader.
And Hillary was the greatest carpet bagger of all time. From Chicago, to Fayettville, Ark. to Washington D.C. to D.C. again then onto New York City and trying to get back in the White House with her Lolita flying husband.
That's a converted model 1859 or 1863. You can see the difference to the later cartridge models at the close look on the lock. It still has the primer magazine. On these early cartridge models they only changed the hammer, the breechblock and took out the now unnecessary parts of the primer. The models that were used by the US Army at this time used a .54 rimfire cartridge. Later they took the .50/70.
I have got this movie DVD as it is my favourite Clint Eastwood movie DVD of the late Sondra Locke and John Vernon in The Outlaw Josey Wales I am dedicating this movie DVD to my old school friends who are both sisters as I hope to see them both again very soon to Chris and Hester from Billyxxx
The one image I always remember is the look of realization in Franks eyes when Bronson shoves the harmonica in his mouth, just like Frank did so many years ago.
If i was on the barge with captain terrell, and he said josey's gonna try to pick us off one by one and best he'll do is get 2 or 3 up front, if i was upfront, i would have told terrell, then you need to get up front here, our fearless leader and lead us to victory since we have them outnumbered

Everyone that has a God given brain!!

Top 5 movie ever in my list
I love how the ferryman changes songs mid-stream. JOSEY WALES is one the great American Westerns!
Ya, typical Joe citizen, lol :(
I love America. I love everything about it. America has a history that is worth studying, and thinking about.

You only need a converted Sharps rifle to send out an invitation.
Missoura
Definitely one of Clint Eastwood's best movies, and certainly one of my favorite.
when my dad and I have to lift something we always go 1, 2, 3, PULL EMULE PULL
I was reading the comments and this one made me spit coffee all over my dashboard😂😂😂
Look away look away look away Dixie land.
I miss my Dad
You have a good dad 👍
Pull, Lemuel, Pull…
The transition from Dixie to Battle Hymn halfway through the river was so funny
...and so was seeing the guide rope shot clean through, with just one shot!
Bye bye, you Red-Legs!!!
William o Connell just died maybe a month ago at 90.
Well . . . you gonna post that comment or whistle Dixie?
Marvelous film and I’ve watched it many times and I never tire of it. Clint is a marvelous actor.
Whupped 'em again, boy!
One of the best scenes from one of the best westerns ever made.
Not ONE of the best Westerns.....The best ever made....
Quite possibly the greatest line ever spoke ina movie.
"Missouri boat ride" 😅
And "At best he'll get two or three up front there."
Doesn't matter. They were probably Biden voters. No loss.
The sharps rifle speaks.
One of my favorite scenes of the film. Love how that Ferry guy sings the Dixie song in Josey and the kids presence but sings the battle hyme of the republic to the northerners minutes later 😂😂😂

Clint had his own Ford/Wayne type cast of returning actors. Loved it. 👍

Actor William O'Connell. He played the barber in _High Plains Drifter_ (not Hang 'Em High). He is 89.
That was a great movie thank you Clint
