I've looked up 8 or 9 of Kates songs & I'm STUNNED how passionate people are about her. I grew up listening to Kate. My Dad LOVED her!! I didn't relized how lucky i was to be a kid & grow up listening to her. NO ONE i knew ever heard of her, so it was just Dad & I that would listen to her records all evening. My Dad has passed, those memories are so precious to me. I am SO GLAD to see she has so many fans!!! There is NOBODY like Kate!!! :)

Even more disturbingly beautiful than Wuthering Heights, this masterpiece should have gone straight to Number 1 in the charts. The song made a profound impact on me the first time I heard it and still does to this very day. Genius.

A truly beautiful song & a beautiful piece of music classical overtones but WAY ahead of its time with sampling before sampling became common place. This also contains a message that was so ahead of its time & that most people unfortunately took no heed of it.
Breathe in my mother ( earth/ nature) with a video of her in a plastic bubble that turned out to be the ultimate irony considering, the damage that we now know plastics ( not nuclear war!) have caused to our earth & our oceans.
Strangling & suffocating them both, making it virtually impossible for them or anything else to BREATHE! :-(

I'm having a bit of a time with allergies today and this song, which I hadn't thought of in years, came to mind. I'm so glad to have found this video of it. Thank you for having posted it. Kate Bush, so brilliant, my very favorite female singer and quite possibly my very favorite singer of all time. A true treasure.

I discovered the lovely Ms. Bush back in 1985 and life has increased in awesomeness as a result ever since! I remember it like yesterday, the first time I heard the title cut of 'The Dreaming' (my first Kate album) I practically fainted with joy and total amazement! Really man, from that day on, everything has looked different. She's simply brilliant.

The reason I like it is because it has a very clear message. During the cold war many people where terrified of a nuclear explosion.
I think Kate Bush might have possibly been warning people about how dangerous it was.
Personally I think the video itself was very clever.

There is more to this song than most even can imagine. Kate is a Visionary and a Revolutionary. And one of the Mothers of this EARTH, a Queen and a Goddess. I love Kate Bush for she has a knowledge she shares with us in her emotional content which it takes an initiated individual to comprehend but a common man like me can understand as well. Every song is even more powerful than I think she herself know when she created it. THAT is a sign of God.

Your comment shocked me. I clearly remember playing this on cassette tape in the car, and my small son singing along to it, that must be 23 - 24 years ago. Yet I still listen and enjoy Kate's music, she *feels* the music like no one else I have heard.

This is absolutely incredible. One of the most original artists in the history of music, PERIOD. One knows when a particular song is unique, or an artist, for it is their songs that you do not want to end, that you do not want to go away, that you just want to keep going and going and going, and this song in particular, "Breathing," is a song that I did not want to end! In fact, many of KB's songs are this way--just riveting, original and complexually-delighting in every possible facet.

You have to really step back to realize just how cerebral her stuff is. It's full of textual references, psychoanalysis, and novel ways of expression. Her career is in the state of perpetual revelation and discovery, and the world is so, so much better for having her. Just imagine never having heard of Kate Bush... I think the mere thought breaks my inner world.

Born in 1972 I grew up in 80s with Protect & Survive leaflets to explain how to survive a nuclear blast, then as teenagers we had Threads which scared the ship out of me and told us best NOT to survive a nuclear explosion, then there were songs like this.... magnificent, modern artists take note, shut up and listen.

These early period videos were cheaply made but represent provovative ideas & the music they portray is astonishingly creative & original. The themes here are spooky & apocalyptic; quite dramatic in function if not in form & O-M-G that fretless bass by John Giblin is phenomenal. Great punches in the heart & soul when the possiblities suggested here penetrate the imagination. Genius!

With old music videos they become almost transparent over time, seeing through all of the technicality and artistry, but this one for me still stands to this day. There is something strangely hypnotic about it, be it Kate or the way the video is produced.

I really hate to open up a can of worms, but I have always loved Tori Amos' music. Kate Bush was before my time, so I've never heard of her. But now that I have heard the original, I can clearly see where a lot Tori's inspiration has come from. There voices are SO similar and the style of singing. It kind of makes me sad to see Tori isn't as original as I had once thought, but I'm glad to learn about such a talented musical genius!
