Takes me back to when I was a soldier in Northern Ireland; this had just been released and I listened to it constantly through my headphones tucked under my helmet. Kate was the beauty that kept my mind in the place I wanted it to be; a wonderful dream.
Yes! This is the second comment to say I can't get this song out of my head in such a beautiful way. When work gets challenging, this song and melody flows in my mind and eases everything. My infinite colors on my palette of music wouldn't be complete without Kate Bush.
what a lovely song. so slinky and sensual. I've always been a huge fan of kates work but never had the chance to see many of her videos.but i'm so impressed by how wonderfully the images fit the songs. Plus i could look at kate dancing around all day. she is such a beauty.bring on a dvd collection in 5.1 please!
This is probably my most favourite video/ song of this goddess/ witch of an artist next to "Running Up That Hill". The lyrics, story-telling, dancing, singing, acting, dramatic orchestration all flow together into what can only be described as profound and soulful poetry in motion. She is so full of beauty, femininity, sensitivity, sensuality.....my hair stand up every time I watch this!
Kate's passion, incredible vocals, melodies, are always weaved into some of the most beautiful songs/compositions I've ever heard from a female artist. She deeply moves me like my favorite classic vocalist....Dusty Springfield. Thank you kindly for sharing this great music video from Kate. Hmmm yes! :-)
The dancing has come a long way from Wuthering Heights yet still as lyrical. Nice touch the backward walk. Favortie line: ...and then his spark to life in my hand, mmh yes... -this song is one of my favorites and never has Kate looked more sensual than in this video. Everything from the outdoor night setting, to the colours and fabric of her clothes are rich and textured.
This track will go with me on my final journey thru the universe - always gets me totally. As for Kate Bush, what can I say......................she is "UNBELIEVABLE" Robin Topping 10th Nov 2011 Mauchline Ayrshire Scotland
Can't even begin to describe the mythic and folkloric passions this raises in me. Perhaps if I read Graves' THE WHITE GODDESS at least one hundred times it would all make sense, but, nevertheless, it's just uncanny to me. From Kate in the medieval head-dress to Kate dancing as if she's suspended in Gaffa to Kate loosening the charm around her, it's delirious mytho-poesie. Don't get much of that from your average pop song! Thank dear, sweet, lovely Kate. You crush the lily in my soul.
there are really few women that i find actually attractive - Kate Bush just helps you believe there is some true and sacred feminity still there in this world - the guy before me thanked God for her - and we really should - the song is like a balm for a wounded soul and it gives new hope and new perspective in life - that's why i believe it's been inspired from above at the same time being for Kate an expression of herself beautiful voice beautiful music beautiful video
Hey appi ! Totally agree with you. Her 5 first albums are masterpieces. Especially "The Dreaming " and " Hounds of Love".Well, her voice is not like before but is still great.
@PALU3K I hear very little of Stivell in this piece .most of the backing is Davy spillane on pipes and whistle. In fact the overall theme is Bill Whelans (of Riverdance fame ) and can be heard on his CD "East Wind " with Andy Irvine. This CD is fantastic and uses themes from Bulgaria that Andy had picked up on his travels. By the way the James Joyce estate has now given Kate the OK to use the Molly Bloom solliquay as she had originally intended and the song will be issued in this fashion soon
alot of people hate on this song for the monotone vocal but they dont get it: Kate is challenging a standard part of music (the vocal part being the most important) so what she does is she makes a very boring monotone vocal part so she can draw your attention to whats going on in the background. i mean the moving line at the chorus played by whatever instrument is incredible
karolinata: Yes, and I think in part it's because of the deep sincerity she puts into it--it's not dismissably superficial, but confronts the listener with an emotionally engaged/risky passion.
Whenever I listen to Kate's music, I always picture her as a belly dancer, for some reason... I think she should go with that theme, in some of her videos! I wonder if anyone knows if there's a video for "Never Be Mine" anywhere?
I think its cool that this song title is based off of one of the last passages in Ulysees from James Joyce and the music is Celtic sort of matching the glory of Joyce being Irish...as all great writers are!
Fantastic track of an album that would be a new master work after "Hounds of love". Unhappily,it wasnt."The sensual world" album is very disappointing. Now, we have that excellent video that fits so well with the song.
@suprflawd Her newer releases are interesting too...but nothing seems to touch this cd I feel...I'd like to see a very recent interview with her...I could imagine meeting her and talking to her all night over some good drinks by the fireplace listening to whatever she's been into lately!...I could listen to her speak for days...her mind is so filled with endless possibilities that she expresses so well with words and with music....What a genius!!!!
The Trio Bulgarka sang on Deeper Understanding, Never be Mine, and Rocket's Tail from The Sensual World, and on The Red Shoes thay sang on You're the One, The Song of Solomon, and Why Should I Love You?
@spankrod Is THAT where she derived those moves?!! Fascinating. She never gets credit for her dancing. That was really her in the "Running up that Hill" video from '85.
i remember the day we shot this video, Kate had just knocked back 8 pints, 2 glasses of rancid milk, a dozen elderberry tarts, 7 baked bean sandwiches, a small goat and 3 buttered size 8 mens running shoes. she had quite a constitution.
@LindtLover I agree 100%, she just oozes sexual and sensual energy, much more than recent artists! I love this track and video, this song is one of her best I think. Adam.
It was inspired by James Joyce's "Ulysses". And understandably Illiad-ish sounding name. She actually wanted to use the poem at the end of the book in song, but was declined by the society who administer's Joyce's works. So she used poetic license instead~

Words just can't do justice to her, she's a creative master.

I just listened to this song 4 times and I still want to hear it again.
Kate is amazing...this song is another timeless gem. She's truly on a mountain of her own. Beautiful to say the least. Thank you for sharing it!
Speechless before a goddess...
OK WITH YOU.I,D LIKE TO BE ENGLISH
+gilles K It's not all that, believe me

Completely bloody divine.

gorgeous Kate, I love her. Great song and video too
thanks for Kate's video. She's amasing, voice, dance and music.
Feel as though Im being drawn into her world when I hear her sing, I cant help it, what a fascinating place it is.
Que dire. Absolument envoutant, délicieux, extraordinaire, tout simplement unique.
I`ve got tears in my eyes. I remember when I saw it for it for first time ( long years ago )when I was young.
her musis is amazing and lyrics brilliant, I love her wor but she always kills it with the dancing :)
This track will go with me on my final journey thru the universe - always gets me totally.
As for Kate Bush, what can I say......................she is "UNBELIEVABLE"

This song always amazes me! I love her voice so much : )
Kate is such a gifted artist, who wrote for herself.....a rare talent.
Love this song, sounds very celtic!
She still instills facination upon me all these years on,what a great artist.
I read Ulysses and this song is simply a reminder of that book. Kate Bush is an entity!
Can't even begin to describe the mythic and folkloric passions this raises in me. Such a brilliant album .ohmmm yes
Majestatyczny videoclip.
Recent track from a brilliant masterpiece. However, this album is brilliant.

I LOVE IT FOREVER. Kate Bush is the best in music. FOREVER.
love that Arabic-Celtic blend, with her whispering elf-like sensuality over it...

A little piece of Heaven for my Ears and a big slice of Temptation for my Eyes !
Kate knows better than anyone how to honour the Sacred Feminine. Thank you, thank you, Beautiful Woman.
How can some people not appreciate Kate Bush?
She's so graceful
The perfect video for Bloomsday.
karolinata: Yes, and I think in part it's because of the deep sincerity she puts into it--it's not dismissably superficial, but confronts the listener with an emotionally engaged/risky passion.
... semplicemente splendido. Brava Kate
I'm in love!

Is THAT where she derived those moves?!! Fascinating.

Kate is my dream woman, it's hard to believe that she is now 50! then again it's hard to believe I am now 40! Arrgghh!!!
Does she still performing? I would love to see her live at least once before I die....

Brilliant....i mean this is music from Kate !
@pinz2022 I've wondered that, too, but have no answer. It must have a name, and Kate is exquisite in it!
Happy birthday Kate xxx
Thank God for Kate Bush !!!!
i remember the day we shot this video, Kate had just knocked back 8 pints, 2 glasses of rancid milk, a dozen elderberry tarts, 7 baked bean sandwiches, a small goat and 3 buttered size 8 mens running shoes. she had quite a constitution.

No, it's definitely Joyce, Molly Bloom's soliloquy. She originally wrote the music to go along with the text.
