Richard playing the piano made me cry. I kept wanting Karens beautiful voice to start singing. Shes always been my favorite singer. There will never be another Karen. 😥
We will meet her in heaven. It’s so sad to see him all alone without Karen. May Richard be blessed for all he does! He had the best vocalist right next to him, his ‘little sister”, Karen. So beautiful. So multitalented. May Karen Rest In Peace.
It’s so interesting that many comments say exactly how I feel every time I happen to watch Richard I too could cry. He shouldn’t be playing alone. So very tragic that she died so young and we never got to enjoy where she would have gone as she got older. May she rest in peace as she shares her beautiful voice with God. ❤
The video was recorded from Petula's concert performances in Chrysler Hall in Norfolk, Virginia, on May 20-21, 2001, as part of the Virginia Arts Festival. I was in attendance at the performance on Sunday evening, May 20, having driven down with my mother for the concert. We stayed afterward and waited by the stage door with other fans for a chance to meet Petula, Richard, and Lou Rawls. Petula emerged soon after the concert to greet fans but couldn't tarry long, as there was a reception she had to attend inside with her guests. Most of the waiting crowd dispersed, but I noticed there were some who were lingering by the door, waiting for a second chance to spend a bit more time with the artists. Most appeared to be there for Richard. I was there for both Petula and Richard and delighted at the chance to see them both. We must have waited an hour or so before the door opened and out walked Petula, Richard, and Lou. All three were gracious with their time, even though it was getting late, signing autographs and posing with fans for photos. Richard was mobbed, with fans chatting him up about his music and career. It was a great night, and I found myself speechless when meeting Petula Clark and Richard Carpenter, like a star-struck kid.
That's nothing. I have an email from Lou. We saw his concert in Houston just a few years before his passing and his show was stupendous. Somehow I sent him an email telling him how much I enjoyed his show and he replied! One or two lines, signed "Your bud.....Lou." However I was just kidding above...how I would love to get to meet Richard, but I have touched his Baldwin piano at The Carpenter Center for the Performing Arts at California State University, Long Beach. In that same day I met and chatted up David Birney without realizing he was a celebrity, and also enjoyed one of the best mushroom pizzas I've ever had at a nearby Pizza joint.
At least someone posts the concert details! TY. I met Richard at an automotive event in LA he had a car entered in. I too was overwhelmed, having been a fan since my early teens. I subsequently got to spend some time inside his car warehouse, which I couldn’t believe was happening. He’s a very very gracious man.
This is fabulous, petula and richard,s late sister karen were best ftiends! It's nice they were able to have a duet together! In my opinion, richard and karen (the carpenters), were the greatest sibling duo to ever come down the pike in the music industry! I call them the "dynamic duo" richards piano, arranging skills and karen,s silky, alto voice make them the perfect musical partners!
I saw Lou Rawls perform in Vacaville CA of all places, he apologized for rushing his performance because he thought he had the flu, but he sang all of his hits because he didn't want to disappoint his fans. He was terminally ill and passed away within months. As for Petula Clark, she performed in San Francisco for almost two hours and then after a short break, visited and signed autographs until everyone who waited was greeted. A very classy entertainer and wonderful to her fans.
50 years ago, I listened to the melody of "Yesterday Once More" from the radio when I was a little Taiwanese kid. It's great to know that Richard is still active on the stage. Miss Karen and her voice so much.
I am so impressed by the touching lyrics and the haunting melody they don’t write songs like this anymore it will never happen again I guess I will always living in the past of those memories that this song brings in my younger days 🌹
February 6th, 1983, Petula was giving a 40th anniversary concert at Royal Albert Hall. As part of her encore she made a touching For All We Know tribute to Karen.
Richard, you are so talented! Karen’s light shines through you and lives on.♥️😇 Thank you for the beautiful memories. We love and pray for you and your family and will eternally miss Karen!💜💞
Wonderful tribute from one super star to another super star. Pet Clark sings Karen’s songs so well, and I only wish they could have done the songs as duet together. Sadly, with Karen dying so young, it wasn’t to be. As for brother Richard? What can I say, such a delightful and gracious man with so much talent himself. His sheer musicailty is breathtaking. With Richard’s beautiful piano playing and song writing skills he was a critical part of the success of The Carpenters. RIP Karen. ❤
2025... "I Couldn't Live Without Your Love..." Loving you since my first record player..,.1968... "Downtown," "Touch Me When We're Dancing..." Thank you, Pet and Richard and Karen, and everybody behind the scenes, for weaving divine thread into our human tapestry... Love, from Dallas, Texas..,.
Often when I am left alone and when I get sad, Caren Carpenters calls me in her beautiful velvet voice. Even though I grew up on the Beatles, I'm always happy to listen to The Carpenters. I have recorded the songs I like the most on a CD and I always have it at hand.
I have liked this video because of the Carpenters theme, I have also loved this video for the Petula Clark side of it. I only wish that our Karen was alive with us today, recording new songs that have everyone wanting to buy, buy, buy. Pet Clark I have loved since I heard a hospital Sister sing on her rounds at The Everlina Childrens hospital, when I was there as a child 66 or so years ago.
Yes can visualise Karen coming on stage n singing...her crystal unique voice, her face...we miss her sooo much. Hope she is looking down from heaven n smiling at this performance. Thank u Richard n Petula for the memories of the one n only, Karen❤
Wonderful. Thanks. I'm a massive fan of both Karen and Petula whom I've loved from the beginning of their careers. Also grateful to see Richard and Lou perform. It's a blessing to have their recordings to enjoy forever.
This is so cool. I was part of the Young Singers Project. This was such a treat to see. I can’t believe this was 20 years! Petula Clark and Lou Rawls were truly class acts.
They were just such an exceptional duo. The ability to touch ones soul with the gift of a song. It's just so incredibly sad that we lost Karen way to young. Thank you, Karen and Richard... their Legacy will endure forever.... Petula Clark is such a Beautiful Gem! 💎 Her heartfelt words about Beautiful Karen are so touching. 🌹 Happy Thursday... thank you for sharing! 💖
Totally agree. Petula is in her late 80's now and still performing. She is a class lady and always speaks highly of Karen. Karen's voice and Richard's musicianship and arranging (often undervalued by critics and fans alike) were the perfect combination.
@@criostoirnott3733 I knew that she was still living. I'm so glad that she is still performing. I remember watching a documentary about Karen, and Petula Clark spoke. I'll never forget one thing she said in her comment. Petuls said, "Karen didn't realize what she had. She had one of the most beautiful voices ever heard." What A beautiful person Petula is. She admired Karen so much!! She did a tribute to Karen that was so Beautiful! Even today as many times as I've watched it, I still get emotional. I'll give it to you if you'd like to watch it. The carpenters were my first loves of music . They touched millions . Karen’s voice was angelic that still brings me to tears and touches me deeply .

Petula still sounds good and looks young. R.I.P. Karen what a voice she had.
