    We had a lot of comments saying people who live on narrowboats don't need to buy a TV Licence. This is incorrect. By law, residential boat owners need a TV Licence to watch live television (any channel), or catch-up TV on the BBC iPlayer (which we do). This is true no matter what device is used, how the programmes are received, or whether the boat is cruising or moored. For more information read this 👉🏻 www.tvlicensing.co.uk/cs/media-centre/news/view.app?id=1369783539618

    I'm too young to own a boat, but seeing your videos and the enjoyment it brings, not only to Colin, but to Shaun and Otis as well is truly inspirational. The history, research, time and dedication put in by you all is amazing, especially when considering your move was for Colin's mental health. You chaps are true inspirations not only to the Canal world, but to anyone and everyone who is struggling with any form of mental health issues. The serotonin released from your videos is incredible. Thank you for all you do and best for the future.

    An informative (and entertaining) look at what it costs to run a narrowboat. I guess the costs can be comparable to running a medium-sized house, but on a narrowboat the scenary is always changing and is so much more beautiful. Cannot put a price on that. Thanks for another great one.

    I live in Japan, where there aren't any "narrowboats" or waterways to navigate them on (plenty of rivers, but the land is too mountainous and something like 90% of the rivers are dammed up in multiple spots). Still, I found your videos absolutely charming and absorbing, and of course the scenery along the way is a real delight (I've never been to Britain...).

    The cost of depreciation/replacement of the boat must be a big item to put into the list. And if one day you need to be back on land there is the problem that bricks and mortar are likely to have gone up in price as the narrow boat has gone down - not literally! You might be stuck if you didn’t have a significant amount of money put aside.
    Looks like a great life and it’s great to see how you look after one another.

    • @FoxesAfloat
      @FoxesAfloat  3 роки тому

      The price of our boat has increased significantly over the last two years, bucking the myth that all boat prices always go down.
      The list is our outgoings, hence depreciation doesn't form part of that because the value has actually increased.

    • @johnmangham2802
      @johnmangham2802 3 роки тому

    Quite a few of our younger friends are living on narrow boats because they cannot afford deposits for houses,even the ones who can afford a mortgage. Gentlemen, greetings from the US and thank you for the info about the costs of canalboat living. On this side of the pond, we don't have a lot of canals, but we do have a gracious surplusage of whopping big lakes. My wife wants us to move to England and buy a narrowboat when I retire. (She's a Pompy Girl, so it'd be moving back for her.) I suggested we compromise by getting something similar to a widebeam and a mooring on one of the larger lakes nearby. That way we could cruise the lake in good weather and be back to some semblance of home-port in time for tea. The jury is still out on that one. :)
    I must say, I get a real Morcombe & Wise vibe off your videos. I enjoy them (your videos) greatly, so I subscribed. Best wishes to you, and never stop having fun!

    Thanks a lot guys, very informative, it would be nice if the U.S. had a canal system we could enjoy. Finding the right boat at the right price is the key,$12,000 a year for peace, freedom from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and fewer taxes is well worth the annual fees. Enjoyed the video, you are all looking good including Otis :), looking forward to the next video take care.

    First time viewer and subscriber, I must say I enjoyed this informative and helpful video. I have since binge watched a little with my husband, I find your videos to be not only informative and helpful, but also beautiful and very relaxing. My Dad suggested this channel to me, and I must say I am happy that he did. For my Dad you are a window into the outside, as he struggles with pain and isn't as mobile as he would like to be. I live in Bari, Italy and for me it's nice to see a bit of English countryside, as due to focus and other commitments before, I haven't been back for over 2 years.
    I hope you both continue to make these videos, as you are doing a world of good. ❤️

    I have no idea how algorithm works but your video just dropped by other random videos I was watching but I was glad of the break of getting angry about vaccine and covid, lol. You both seem like lovely lads. I had watched river boat journey on TV for years. I did always wonder how much it would cost to live on a river boat. Thanks for those tips.

Please keep it up and looking forward to your being able to travel again.

    I think this is a great guide with practical application for any new boater. I think I must get to making a guide from an engineers perspective on the equipment a "Modern Boater" will need. Starting with the right engine system, solar and heating can make or break anyone's liveaboard boating dream.
    Thanks for this.
