Hakka Chinese first immigrated to Calcutta due to the *Opium trade* which was a major business for the East India Company
Then later they found a niche area - *leather* - as Muslim Bengali would not touch pigs & Hindu Bengali would not touch cow hide
The fact that West Bengal is still a major centre for leather - is due to the Chinese of Bengal (that China town shown used to be former leather tanneries)

True. I had my first taste of Chinese food was chow mein in Shillong, at age 7 at the hands of ethnic Chinese families, without the added Indian masalas. Then in Ripon Street in Calcutta, and in China Town. Good chinese food, without masala corruption. Now at 76 I can no longer find that kind of food in India. More is the pity

Peiping in Park st served original unchanged Chinese cuisine. I tasted bird nest soup and shark fin soup there along time back. Cant forget good old Nankin (now no more) in Terreti bazar.

This is traditional Chinese food from the southern Hakka style(because majority of these Chinese settlers came from that part of China).
Tibetan food bhi kafi famous hy West Bengal me aur India me kuch aur parts me bhi. Tibet aur hamare India key Ladakhi/Lahauli khane me zyda antar nahi hy. Tibbati/Ladakhi khana ho gaya jayse momo/mandu, Thukpa, Phaley, Shapta yey sab.
