Tarantino says that the reason he's retiring after the tenth film is that almost all teh great directors tarnished their legacies with bad films after they got old. But here's Scorsese bucking that trend with every new movie he directs.

What's the association between Robbie Robertson & the Prairies? He's a native of Southeastern Ontario. His mom was from the Grand River First Nations. My best friend's granddad was Chief Monture of the Grand River Six Nations. We were in school together in the 60s. She is the reason I first learned about the Six Nations in Ontario. It sure wasn't because Indigenous History was taught in school.
When I was a kid, the history of residential schools was hidden, though we lived in an area surrounded by historic Indigenous land. That history never really came to light until decades later. White children weren't taught about the inhumanity of ripping native-born young children from their only families, and the hateful indignities they suffered in attempts to "civilize" them.
At the same time I was absorbing some of the fascinating history of Indigenous people in southern Ontario, Robbie was playing with Ronnie Hawkins at the Le Coq d'Or as a 17-yr old. We were only a couple of years apart at the time, and there was no mention of his heritage until many years later.
I was a huge fan of his music, from his time with Ronnie Hawkins through all his years as part of "The Band". His solo work was equally interesting, though lesser known.
Between his death and the passing of Gordon Lightfoot this year, 2023 is a year we lost 2 Canadian Music icons. Sad indeed.

What I've always loved about him, in addition to all of his great work, of course, is his enthusiasm when speaking about film. He really is a student and lover of the craft and art of movie making. And there's never any pretentiousness.

Just got back from the cinema, still unpacking. Loved that the music never tells you how to feel, just sets the tone and vide and place and time, but not emotion. I can’t think of a film that deserves the world “harrowing” more, just overwhelming sad, but insanely watchable, no way it was 3 and a half hours! Not sure if it tops Goodfellas (Ray Liota…c’mon) but what a masterpiece.

Guess what. I just finished watching last scene of The Irishman and then listened to In The Still Of The Night now I was going to watch Scorsese's interview for Irishman on Jimmy Fallon but UA-cam recommended me in the nick of the time. AI is great. And one more thing I have been waiting for this movie to come out for the last two years. Very excited about watching this.

So great to see his interview, acutely i enjoy watching directors or creaters have views about how they wanna put the movie together. So extra to let casts repeat what the roles they played in the movies. Every movie is the director views to told story, and Martin is one of great story teller with every films he did. Hands down the great person ever!
