It was just the screwy writing. A lot of things happen that don't really make sense, like how Blaster and Soundwave are the only characters who are killed and then revived.
Its a case of Gotta sell them toys, so they killed the charaters and then bought them back in new paint jobs, come to think of it, I think that might of been the first onscrean repaint TFs who die and come back to life again, only the process is put on Megatron starting from the Armada (micron legend) series until the end of Cybertron (Galaxy Force), thou personally I felt Cybertron or rather Galaxy force did it best, once Megs, I mean Galvatron got his new paint job and power, he goes and proves he a total bad ass and kicks every Autobot butt including Metroplex and OP, thou OP gets a power up by sheer force of will, but hey, that's anime for ya, beats the heck out of a lot of Hollywood stuff!
To think this beauty was sanged by the same dude that makes great songs for dbz like cha la head cha la, we gotta power, super survivor, umnei no hai, hikari no will power, and MUCH more
It would’ve been nice if this were adapted for American audiences, it would’ve been like imprisoning Galvatron in the ice rather than killing him and then bring him back in the magazine manga of Battlestars: Return of Convoy as Super/Ultra Megatron.

Does anyone else find it odd that Galvatron survived Cybertron exploding in his face but was killed by a hand-hold friendship beam and ice?
He didn't die. He was just entombed in ice that was so compacted around him, he can't move. If someone went and dug him out, he'd probably be fine.
