This is a special MTV did about Straight Edge that aired late at night back in the late 90's. Sadly i only have half of it recorded but it's better than nothing. Enjoy!

Straight Edge should be a more mainstream movement, yes there are those that make it look bad but every movement on Earth has it's hypocrites
I respect straight edge and all it stands for but, I wouldn't be able to live that life style. I don't abuse any substances or anything like that but a beer at a show or a couple while your hanging out to me is no big deal. much respect to the people that can live the sxe lifestyle and uphold it through and through.
btw those concert scenes are how ALL hardcore shows USED to be. not just straight edge people...
That's why watching old hardcore show footage is so painful: knowing that shows will never be that fun again.

SXE IT's not a one chance only and that breaking edge thing is bullshit , thats the type of mentality thats hypocritical just to start and it s the genesis of the gang mentality side of the mouvement that you dont need .
I agree with that. I agree you can’t call yourself straight edge if you habitually slip up but just cause you’ve tasted a beer or had a cigarette doesn’t make you nullified from it forever
I remember when this mtv special first appeared. Now that am 48 I can see why my mother refers to my straight edge years as "that was the time your were in that cult" For example "You can't remarry straight edge" ?! sounds that someone from the Waco Texas compound . I can see why the man (Ian Mackaye) who coined the term "straight edge" doesn't appear in this special. How can one (earth crisis) distort a simple positive message into something ugly. (What earth crisis did to straight edge is what Joel Osteen is currently doing do christianity) Plus veganism it is just a diet one of many. It wasn't meant to a source of identity. For example people who are on the Atkins diet don't say things like "Atkins: true to death" Do you know when you google earth crisis lyrics into google without typing in the words " earth crisis" , do you know what comes back? A list of "psychologists who specialize in depression" or my personal favorite bible study groups that will help you cope with your depression. The google algorithm doesn't know these are lyrics of actually songs but instead treats it like ramblings of a depressed lunatic. Think about how scary that is. as jello Biafra once said "MTV get off the air" (and now that I think about it kinda has: Thanks MTV for making people like Snookie and "the situation" into millionaires. Keeping on fighting the good fight Kurt loder.
I can't bring myself to watch this . It sincerely pisses me off that Geraldo can say crap like that and not get a free attitude adjustment more serious than he did with another group . xVx

I absolutely agree. I was also straight-edge and I can say: most people in the movement are brainwashed guys, who have no idea of what they do or why they are doing what they do. Just waste of time, energy, money.

I always thought it was cool to be part of this when I was a teen back then but now watching this as an adult...HAHAHAH I cringe when these kids talk like they lived long enough.
