- Upon researching about some rough neighborhoods in Portugal more specifically in Porto. I came across this one and kinda didn't think it looked as bad as they made it seem in the news. Sure it is not as dangerous a place as I have been such as in Brazil but it was really shocking the way that some locals reacted to seeing a camera. Enjoy this vlog in the sketchy neighborhood of Dr. Nuno Pinheiro Torres plus a quick walk through Pasteleira nova, Condominhas which are right beside Pinheiro Torres.

No they did not but off camera they were fine with me. I wished I could have gotten to talk to them about life in the neighborhood but they refused to be on cam.

A word of advice: take it easy if you want to visit other neighborhoods in the future. What you felt was a sample of what happens in relation to other neighborhoods in Porto and the surrounding area. Problems with filming also arise in quiet neighborhoods.
Next time I will approach filming in locations like that a bit differently.
I´m from porto and I can say that you´re very bold, ahahaah. you´re also lucky because that neighbourhood is now very calm compared to a few years ago. the police made a huge operation with dozens of police for weeks surrounding that neighbourhood. Now the crime has moved to other neighbourhoods. I remember going by car a few years ago and the moment I entered my car on one of those streets that you´ve walked, I got a car behind me with 4 guys checking who I am and following me.
Thanks! Hahah. I was not worried but it is really sad that you cannot just walk where you want without being harassed. They don't own the neighborhood but I guess when you do shady things you are gonna be very paranoid especially someone walking around with a camera.

I spent a year in a village named Ovar, between Oporto and Aveiro. Although, unlike yourself, I had no camera. I worked in a factory there Alongside the locals. A very interesting culture and people.
ngl but with this black glasses on the face, filming people around on a neighbourhood, its quite normal that they approach you this way, in any hood in Portugal actually, as every hood runs drugs.
You look like a cop, more likely (Policia Judiciaria).
Surely if you would approach them with camera down, and without glasses, they would probably even give you a chance of interaction for maybe 10€

It looks like a tidy place because the government uses taxpayers' money to keep the space clean and do renovations on the houses. There are good hard-working people there, who unfortunately have to live among these drug dealers who do what they want and the government still protects them. This is the result of social democracy that pretends to be concerned with social causes but money speaks louder than social issues. PS- as a percentage, most people don't like being harassed and filmed

Maybe not the worst neighbourhood from portugal but from Porto, i think the worst from Portugal is in Amadora.
Please note you were only at Pasteleira neighborhood, where the guy told you to shut the camera. Then you pass by Pasteleira nova and ended at Condominhas "private" neighborhood. You didn't cross Pinheiro Torres.
I was walking on Dr. Nuno Pinheiro Torres, I suppose they put a street with the same name for no reason 😂

Is it mostly issue with illegal immigrants and migrants hiding there ? Didn't seem like native portugeese there?
From what I see it is native Portuguese people in this neighborhood at least. But other neighborhoods like this in other parts of the country could be immigrants but not sure.
It’s nothing to due with democracy shoving a camera in someone’s face, in the most dangerous ghetto or anywhere, that’s respect for others freedom to appear on camera or not, that was a bit silly

The best way to do this is with someone local, next time try to talk to someone who is known around the area , for a more in depth scene of that world!
He only walked on the main street, near Pinheiro Torres! He didn't even enter the neighborhood. If he enter there with the camera, he would leave without the camera and without clothes. In Europe people dont like to be filmed. Actually, in Portugal its forbiden to film people, even in public places or in coffes like he did. You cannot do that here. Respect our culture. This is not 3rd world Brazil.

Pinheiro Torres é um bairro mesmo colado do lado do bairro da pasteleira nova onde é conhecido pelo mercado de drogas! São 2 bairros, mas ainda tem a pasteleira velha que fica acima da nova e a Monteira que fica atrás do pinheiro torres, ou seja, ao todo são 4 bairros todos juntos!!!

Brazil has no security, any place that starts to become segregated in Portugal they tear it down, search for neighborhood of aleixo it was becoming a serious problem there was a barricade so the police couldn't enter, several shootouts with the police until they tore down the towers and arrested a large part of them

I born there live england for 28 years in the 80/90 that area was very bad between white and new cream blocks on florest now park was full wood rack full smackheads I was introduced on drugs by 11 start on glu and freinds jab heroine and aleixo was the worst not existed nock down was the supermarket of area😊
You were actually in Pasteleira velha e nova (old and new), and coming in with a camera recording people's faces without permission isn't being very polite. They are very suspicious about people they don't know.
Hope that adrenaline was worth and I must say that you were very lucky coming out from there without any harm. There are other dangerous places to go in Porto, and if you go out there during the night it's even worst.
I actually spoke to all of them off camera and they were pretty cool with me after I explained what I was doing there. I even was given good ideas of what I should see in Porto. Thanks for your concern but I was not there to offend or intrude whether you believe me or not. 😎
@@nickmusttravel you could speak Portuguese and the xplain what you were doing and probably even show your channel, that's why they were nice. Otherwise they would think you were a cop or something and could get you hurt, or at least scared 😅. Anyway I hope you have enjoyed your stay in Porto.

Not even close to the dangerous neighborhood in Porto.... Born and raised in porto ... And ....there are dozen of them worst than Pinheiro Torres nowadays...
Ok then go there and walk around trying to film people and ask them questions about how life is in their neighborhood. I did not get many answers only aggressive behavior.

Primeiramente eu sou do Canadá com sangue português. Eu não fui lá pra filmar as caras deles, eu fui pra conhecer Pinheiro Torres e os bairros ao lado dele e conversar com os moradores mas eles não queriam falar comigo na câmera. Eu consegui conversar tranquilamente com eles mas com câmera desligada.
Olha-me este gajo armado em Zazza Italiano a entrar no bairro de câmara na mão a filmar tudo e todos, mesmo com perfil de paisana. Tiveste uma sorte não te levarem para um canto e levares uma carga de porrada e seres todo roubado e com sorte ainda ficavas furado. Acho que ele não tem bem noção da realidade do que lhe poderia ter acontecido, se calhar tiveste sorte a hora que foi e com que te cruzaste. Continua com essas ideias de filmar bairros perigosos vestido dessa maneira e com esses óculos e habilitas-te a ires parar aos cuidados intensivos ou pior.
Continua a viver com medo, meu amigo. Eu conversei com essas pessoas fora da câmera e elas foram amigáveis comigo.

there's nothing compared to "Cova da Moura" , "Reboleira" and "Bairro 6 de Maio" all in Lisbon. I lived in Lisbon and in Porto and I know very well all those places. Unfortunately I used to go to these neighborhoods every day and in Porto they are, by far, more calm than in Lisbon. But in this video you went to the heart of the neighborhood. Lucky because it was at a slow hour.
I meant to go to Cova da Moura but not enough time. I enjoyed see what it was like. I wish I could have interviewed one of them on camera.

Much like many similar neighbourhoods in Porto ,Pinheiro Torres ,is next to Impenetrable ,UNLESS, you are there with "the right people " or/and for the "right reasons " -then they´ll speak your language (so to speak ) alright. Only then will you perhaps talk to someone who happens to be in the mood to be your guide -someone who lives there and knows his way around -even then, there is no WAY anybody will get any footage with dealers or in hotspots like we see in many other videos on YT. It is simply not how things work over there.
