Totally agree of what you said. Such overwhelming when you are so new to the place and system would be shocked. Just a personal experience of us in Budapest, we have no idea of this validation of tickets, as there some personnel checking in the metro we end up being fined for not validating our tickets. This video is helpful for allowing us to travel to Porto.

To be absolutely honest with you, we don't know the answer to that. Perhaps you could ask at the tourist office at the airport. In theory they should sell those Andante cards.

To be able to ride the trams, you need to buy a specific (and expensive) ticket. If you want to ride 3 zones (to get to Matosinhos), go to the machines and load on to your empty Andante card a ticket valid for 3 zones. All the best!

We haven't requested an Uber from the bus station but there is a place for taxis and, presumably, for ridesharing services, to pick up their passengers. You cannot have a ticket for 2 zones and a ticket for 4 zones at the same time. You can use both on buses and metro.

Last year we were on board a cruise ship headed for Porto but the visit had to be cancelled at the last minute due to a strike by Portuguese port pilots. For that reason, we don't have any content or know-how on the topic yet.
Our pleasure! As far as we know, Santa Maria da Feira is not in the Porto metropolitan area, the local transport won't take you there. You would need to take a long distance bus run by Rede Expresso from the main bus station in Porto.
The Andante card seems very complicated. How should I know how many zones there are to my destination? And I can't buy tre zones and add to a two zones card? Is there not an app where I can set source and destination and have the fee pulled directly from my credit card?
Porto is just within the one travel zone, there is no need to worry about zones (except for the trip to the airport). Now you can pay with your contactless card, tap in, tap out.

Thank you for the correction about line C, you're absolutely right. From what we've read UNIR will operate everywhere but in the city of Porto. Anda has terrible reviews and many testimonies of foreign users unable to set up an account.

Hi Dave, we saw a few card readers but can't tell for sure whether contactless card payment is fully implemented, it might have been so since the last time we visited Porto. With card payment you always pay the full fare.

@@hannabattung4488 hi again, we haven't got that topic covered yet. But a taxi or a Uber will cost you and immense fortune and won't probably cross the border. Train schedules tend to be release up to two months in advance.

Quick question: when we arrive at Porto's airport and purchase the card for transportation to the city center (4 Zones), we want to use the card for the remainder of our trip in Porto (2 Zones). So, do we need to buy the 4 zones first and then come back and add the 2 zones after the 4 zones transaction is over or can we do all of them at the same time (buy a 4 zones + 2 zones)? :)
Hi Iraj, you cannot have two different tickets loaded in the card at the same time, as the system wouldn't know which one to use. So you have to wait till you use up your 4Z ticket before you load 2Z tickets.
Hi, I wonder if you could help me with some advice. I need to get from Porto airport to The Terminal Intermodal Campanhã for an onward journey to Vila Real. I have been told to use the metro from the airport to Campanhã train station and then walk to the terminal Intermodal. However, looking at Google maps it seems that the terminal Intermodal is on the other side of the tracks from campanhã train station. This makes it a difficult place to get to on foot for a first time tourist to Porto. What would be your recommendation for getting to the Intermodal terminal campanhã from the airport? Is there a metro station at The Intermodal terminal? Would I need to take a taxi from campanhã train station or is it actually very easy to walk there from campanha train station? It's an easy walk from the railway station to the bus station. It is longer than it should be as it has to go around the railway station and tracks. Thousands of people do it every day. But if you are traveling with luggage, take a taxi or TVDE from the airport to the bus terminal. All the best.

Hello, you will need to buy a ticket valid for 3 zones indeed. No discounts for non-resident seniors. Rather than a top-up, what you do is buy a new ticket once you've used the one in your card. Buy the card, a zone 3 ticket to go to Porto, and then purchase new tickets as you need, loading them onto your existing Andante card. All the best.
Hi, I'm going to Porto at the end of August. Do you know if you can pay for the metro directly with a Contactless card like in many cities like London? And is it generally accepted in bars or shops?
So I land at OPO around 11:00am in mid-May. I would like to take the train from OPO to Lisbon. But I understand that I need to first take the train (blue line) from OPO to Campanha and then from Campanha to Lisbon. I know it sounds weird but the airfare was cheaper going to Porto from New York as opposed to going to Lisbon. I have 11 nights split between Lisbon and Porto. So instead of spending the night in Porto when I land, I figured I could just take the train to Lisbon on the same day. I'll spend maybe 5 nights in Lisbon. Then train it back to Porto and fly home from there. Anyway, back to my original question: Would it be correct to take the blue line to Campanha and then transfer to the train heading to Lisbon? I'm giving myself 3 hours to go from OPO to Campanha Station and I hope it's enough time to get on the train to Lisbon.

Thank you. The Andante Tour is valid for all tariff zones. The Blue Andante only for the zones you pay for. We didn't want to overcomplicate the explanation on a system that it is not that easy to understand. Your use of transport cards will depend on the location of your accommodation.

Uber fares are dynamic, they change depending on the time of the day, the day of the week and the demand. Should cost less than 30€ but you never know.

We're not 100% sure, but you can surely check at the tourist office at the airport, if it's not sold at the machines it will be sold there.

You buy the ticket from the driver, we don't know how to pay for it, we've never taken it as they are a bit of a tourist trap.
Can simply tap your credit card at the machine for contactless ticketing for metro and bus instead of buying the Andante Card?
It's being tested on some metro lines. You will charged a Z4 card ticket even if you only travel through 2 zones, so it's not a good deal.
Please define the word "Title" that is displayed on the ticket machine. How do you know what zone your destination is in when buying the card?
Title = ticket. The entire Porto is under one zone. Z2 ticket for moving around Porto, Z4 for airport to Porto.

Thank you for all your informative videos. We used your instructions a few months ago when we were visiting Barcelona. Quick question: when we arrive at Porto's airport and purchase the card for transportation to the city center (4 Zones), we want to use the card for the remainder of our trip in Porto (2 Zones). So, do we need to buy the 4 zones first and then come back and add the 2 zones after the 4 zones transaction is over or can we do all of them at the same time (buy a 4 zones + 2 zones)? :)
Hi Iraj, you cannot have two different tickets loaded in the card at the same time, as the system wouldn't know which one to use. So you have to wait till you use up your 4Z ticket before you load 2Z tickets.
Can you pay cash on the bus and if u have to buy a ticket (andante) how to know what zone for the bus
Not sure about paying cash on board. The zone system for the buses is the same as for the metro.
Hi, I wonder if you could help me with some advice. I need to get from Porto airport to The Terminal Intermodal Campanhã for an onward journey to Vila Real. I have been told to use the metro from the airport to Campanhã train station and then walk to the terminal Intermodal. However, looking at Google maps it seems that the terminal Intermodal is on the other side of the tracks from campanhã train station. This makes it a difficult place to get to on foot for a first time tourist to Porto. What would be your recommendation for getting to the Intermodal terminal campanhã from the airport? Is there a metro station at The Intermodal terminal? Would I need to take a taxi from campanhã train station or is it actually very easy to walk there from campanha train station? Thank you for your time and any assistance you can provide will be gratefully received.
It's an easy walk from the railway station to the bus station. It is longer than it should be as it has to go around the railway station and tracks. Thousands of people do it every day. But if you are traveling with luggage, take a taxi or TVDE from the airport to the bus terminal. All the best.

Then when I'm in the city, is it possible to do a top up at any station? As I'm only in Porto for a day, I do not know how many trips I would need. Hello, you will need to buy a ticket valid for 3 zones indeed. No discounts for non-resident seniors. Rather than a top-up, what you do is buy a new ticket once you've used the one in your card. Buy the card, a zone 3 ticket to go to Porto, and then purchase new tickets as you need, loading them onto your existing Andante card. All the best.

How do I know how many zones i need to buy for ? That piece was confusing
T4 for the airport to city transfer. T2 to move around Porto.
So I land at OPO around 11:00am in mid-May. I would like to take the train from OPO to Lisbon. But I understand that I need to first take the train (blue line) from OPO to Campanha and then from Campanha to Lisbon. I know it sounds weird but the airfare was cheaper going to Porto from New York as opposed to going to Lisbon. I have 11 nights split between Lisbon and Porto. So instead of spending the night in Porto when I land, I figured I could just take the train to Lisbon on the same day. I'll spend maybe 5 nights in Lisbon. Then train it back to Porto and fly home from there. Anyway, back to my original question: Would it be correct to take the blue line to Campanha and then transfer to the train heading to Lisbon? I'm giving myself 3 hours to go from OPO to Campanha Station and I hope it's enough time to get on the train to Lisbon.
The airport line doesn't reach Campanhã. You will have to change metro lines along the way. Otherwise, you should be fine.

Need clarification on the number of tickets to buy on one card. If I buy 2 tickets for a zone and scan my card, will it only use one ticket, leaving me a credit on the card worth another ticket?
If you have 2 tickets and scan your card once, 1 ticket will be discounted from the total credit of 2.

The 3-day Andante Tour is valid on buses and metro. Not valid on trams or the funicular.

Thank you. The Andante Tour is valid for all tariff zones. The Blue Andante only for the zones you pay for. We didn't want to overcomplicate the explanation on a system that it is not that easy to understand. Your use of transport cards will depend on the location of your accommodation.
