You two are wonderful "reactors" and have a keen sense of selecting choice viewings! I'm an early, subscribed follower and look forward to your growing success. :)
I think Niamh is correct by assuming that Toranaga invited Blackthorn to "swim" as a way to covertly make him bathe. However, once Toranaga saw the dive, he wanted to learn that too. This is a great example of how Toranaga will hide his true intentions and, without hesitation, exploit any advantage that fate may bring.
18:30 The rank of "hatamoto" is that of an upper vassal of a samurai lord. As such, he has such privileges as being able to secure an audience with his lord at any time, in exchange for providing services, as well as men, to his lord. In modern terms, a hatamoto would be a military officer who is assigned to a general. A hatamoto also has a fief, which he holds for his lord, and needs a household of his own.
18:30 "Hatamoto" translates to Flagman or Guardian of the Banner. It is the highest ranking samurai serving a feudal lord. He has audience rights to the lord. He is also expected to die in the service of his lord. Either by dying in battles or committing Seppuku alongside his lord when he surrenders.
Toranaga just wanted to learn to dive. Diving was not the usual custom to enter a body of water in the old Japans. And also Toranaga just escaped certain death back in Osaka. I think he was celebrating his escape. Living life. He can fight his enemies tomorrow because "Tomorrow is Tomorrow". That's how it came across to me anyway.
Greetings from Ukraine, guys, please make another reaction, but to the original (Shogun 1980) to contrast with this series. In my opinion, the old one is better. I would like to see your reaction to this series as well.
I highly recommend reacting to the Saban's Power Rangers Movie from 2017. staring Dacre Montgomery who played Billy in stranger things, Naomi Scott who played Jasmine in the live-action Aladdin movie, Bryan Cranston who played Walter White in Breaking Bad, and Elisabeth Banks who played Effie Trinket in The Hunger Games.🥺❤️
I hate Buntaro but I dont blame him for his behavior with his kid, in the end of the day he is raising a warrior and back then it was a world were the most minimum error could cost your blood or entire blood line.

That's the thing I love about this series: every episode is even better than the previous until the climactic ending!
Amazing episode 🤯

The real Buntaro lived longer than any of the other principals and was famed as a great warrior.

Love the movie
Omg this sounds so fun… adding this to our list 💙
What's really funny is thinking that people who live on an oceanic archipeligo don't know how to dive 😁
Diving was not the usual custom in the old Japan due the hot springs.
Save some tears for whats coming guys.
Oh no 😭
No spoilers please!
