- Today I knock down a wall! ...and update my kitchen with modern electric, Klearvue Cabinets, Midwest Contertops and Samsung Appliances! My house is 960 sqf, built in 1982 and is a 2 bedroom 1 bath with a two car detached garage. I may not make my money back on this upgrade, but I will live better for it! The difference is night and day! I no longer feel ashamed to invite people over and welcome entertaining guests! My hope is that this video inspires someone to put their butt to work and complete a house project!

Definitely!! I'll bet nearly every woman who watched fell in love with this guy 😍! What an improvement to the floor plan! Love that the laundry now opens from the hallway & you don't have to go through the kitchen. Just making that small change drastically improved the livability of this home - but combined w/the kitchen reno we're talking phenomenal improvement.

Aside from everything else done perfectly, I thought it was masterful that you relocated the utility / washer dryer door to the hallway.

@@willdocter That wasn't smart by whoever designed the home to put the entrance to the laundry room *through* the kitchen when the hallway was just RIGHT THERE! Saved yourself a bunch of steps as well!!
Question, was that a load bearing wall? If so, did you need to do anything specific for structural purposes? I have the same layout and don’t want to knock down my wall and risk bringing down my ceiling 😬. Thanks

Expertly filmed and very professionally done. We've been renovating our 65 yr old bungalow for 15 years, inside and out and room by room. We did have the kitchen and 2 bathrooms professionally done because it's so hard with all that's involved - plumbing, electrical, getting counters, cabinets and floors level, etc. You made this look so easy and it's not. No matter what it's a win-win as you will enjoy it and so will the future owner should you ever sell. 10/10!

Also... loved watching the perpetual relocation of the fridge during the remodel... I have been thinking through that as well as part of our plan, about how to keep things functioning during the project. Seeing the fridge moving all over the space made me smile. :-) Also found it helpful to see that you installed the flooring in the open space instead of cabinets first and then doing flooring around them. Your way is probably easier and ultimately faster. Helpful to see that!

Wow. You have amazing skills. I hope you get many jobs to remodel other folks' homes. It's such a valuable skill set. I wish I could switch careers, growing up my father figure was a man who like you, did everything, from electric to painting, tiling, taking down walls and building houses. But I'll keep the renovating as a hobby. I'm tackling our kitchen now, its cabinets are 1995 I think, oak and pretty outdated. Already did the countertop/sink replacement. Such a big difference. No matter how much you spent, the value you get is how you feel when you are in your kitchen and you show it off to family/friends. That is priceless. Congratulations on such an amazing transformation. Very inspirational. Bravo!

You did a great job! We learn lots during each job we do! For this job, I would go to ceiling with uppers so there's adequate room for trim. I would eliminate need for table and carry the reno and new cabinets/counter all the way down the wall. The island would be seated on the flooring transition and go longer once table/chairs are eliminated. I would also demo old counter, but I can see this being done in phases, after such a lengthy process. Eg, you can add new counter later. I would replace boob light... It tells the age of the light and easy to fix.

I know exactly how you feel. I had been day dreaming of renovating my dismal 1980s kitchen for 15 years. The linoleum floor was beyond cleaning. I had creaking yellow appliances and dated honey colored cabinets. I replaced to them all with my own sweat equity. I sweated every detail for weeks down to the precise colors of the seat cushions.
I love to hear my friends gasp at the transformation. no one knew I had the building and decorating skills. I have gone to the refrigerator for a cup of ice at stayed just to smile at my work.
I don't why I put it off so long. You're right. Stop dreaming, just do it. I can't believe how ridiculously happy I am to eat at home now.
My husband and I have been debating on whether we are going to make on offer on this older very SMALL home because it needs a lot of work. This was my answer. You did this all by yourself and it looks like a $25k job. Absolutely beautiful. Awesome job

@@willdocter No, we have a meeting with the contractor tomorrow, I have a few changes, then we will have to go and pick out the tile and the Quartz counter top. We are essentially removing our dining room and making one large kitchen. In addition we are removing the carpeting in the living room and hallway, replacing it all with the same tile. The biggest part will of course be removing the wall and all of the cabinets, then replacing them, installing the new island, the electrical and flooring. We recently remodeled the bathrooms and had some delays due to the pandemic. If all goes well I am hoping for a start time mid to late October and completion of the project by mid-December at the latest.

Dude - - you wore me out with this one. That's a helluva lot of work for 8 minutes. Only thing I woulda done differently is a counter-depth fridge. That monster dwarfs the rest of the kitchen. Very entertaining. Gr8 job with the time lapse

I totally agree! I'm about to start a remodel on a small kitchen and I'm definitely going with a counter-depth fridge. The selection is much smaller and they tend to be a bit more expensive, but having an oversized fridge sticking out into a small space just ruins the seamless, built-in look everyone likes. Definitely worth the extra money.

the gallery will look more cohesive, and you can google ways to arrange them to make more of a statement, and lastly, they are a bit high too, you can also do a google search on how high to start hanging. But seriously, kitchen is da bomb!

I was able to pull a new stove wire through the crawl space to the new location and I pulled all the electrical up out of that wall into the attic and added junction boxes to allow for splicing longer runs to the new locations.

I may be in the minority here but i prefer the separation of the kitchen and the family room, open concept is great for entertaining but everyday life it bothers the others watching tv or reading in the family room while some one is cooking prepping food. i will say this for a small remodel job the guy did a great job!
