    If you have a flickering image on your LCD or LED TV Screen, the problem could be caused by one of a few different parts of your TV.
    In this video we will show some troubleshooting steps that can help to identify the cause of the problem. We will first take a look at the back of the TV and identify the parts.
    I have already removed the screws and the back cover. Here we have the power supply board, and the main board, and the t-con board.
    This is the LVDS cable that runs between the main board and the t-con board on this TV. Some TVs will not have a t-con board that is replaceable. They will have the t-con board built into the TV panel. If that is the case, the other end of the LVDS cable, the end that on this TV connects to the t-con board, will run directly into the panel and disappear.
    The first step in our troubleshooting is to disconnect the LVDS cable to the t-con board and see if the LEDS flicker without the video cable connected. If your TV does not have the t-con board visible, then you will want to disconnect the LVDS cable from the main board.
    After you have disconnected the cable from the appropriate board you can turn on the TV and see if you see the light flickering through the holes on the back of the panel.
    After disconnecting the LVDS cable, if there continues to be flickering, then the problem is most likely the LEDs in your TV. These LEDs are replaceable in most TVs, however it can be difficult and there is the possibility of damaging the TV panel during that process.
    If you damage your TV panel it is not repairable.
    After disconnecting the LVDS cable from the appropriate board, if there is not flickering anymore, then the cause of the problem would be with either the main board, the t-con board or the TV panel.
    You could replace the t-con boardand main boards individually to see if one of those replacement parts fixes the problem. If they do not fix the problem, then the problem is most likely with the TV panel.
    The TV panel is not repairable. TV panels can be replaced. Shopjimmy.com does not sell TV panels.

      I think most people will know if they have the problem or not and don't need a preview. My tv is getting dimmer near the bottom and flickering in brightness. I don't need a preview to tell me that.

    Hi there! Love your videos since they're very informative. I'm trying to decide which board I should try to replace first (buy from you guys). My LG 55LW6500 randomly restarted while I was watching TV and it came back with no picture and no audio. I can power it up fine, on the TV itself, via remote and even via Chromecast (HDMI) - just a blank screen (no backlight) with no audio. Also tried the flashlight test and couldn't see anything. Power seems to be fine and the TV is still sort of functioning so I'm just not sure which board might have the issue. Would appreciate some help! :)

    Thanks for your help. Replaced the led strip as the screen was black (one led was dead on the strip), but also bought the led power board, luckily I did as the old board was causing flickering. Had to reopen the TV and replace the old board. Old TCL TV that's edge lit if anyone is wondering.

    Hi, I have a Viseo 50" Plasma model # PDP50X3T012. It began flickering light to dim intermittently than permanently went dim for the last few days but we continued to watch it during the week. It started to flicker with a black screen so I finally disconnected it. Took back cover off and saw a ton of dust. Saw a video that it could be the Y-sustain board and saw some old dry rotted thermal glue but cant tell if its a burn mark or not. The video recommended to start with the buffer boards but they look ok. Any advice?

    tv panels can be repaired if you look at asian tv repairs, it seems that in the west we have lost our capability to replace component parts.
    YOU can swap circuit boards one by one at great cost until the tv is fixed and finally the ultimate replacement a new tv.
    some cheap repairs consist of replacement capacitor, resistors,or even bypass connection.

    On my Vizio M50-C1, I see the images vibrate vertically (going up and down). Unfortunately its just out of warranty period! Need help so I could try and fix this issue. I suspect the T-Con board since I hear a buzzing sound from it when I turn on the TV. However, I am not sure if there would be buzzing sound from a T-Con board even if its good. Also, if there are other things that could be tested to narrow the problem area, I am all ears. Thanks in advance!

    I have model code LN40B530P7FXZA and it flickers after it's been on for about 5 minutes. I followed your video & disconnected the TCON board & it no longer flickers, before I put the back back on & remount it to the wall, what is the TCON panel for & how much to replace it if it is something necessary?

    • @Godsadvoc8
      @Godsadvoc8 6 років тому

      Hey Lonetto, the T-Con board is simply a control board, and the beauty of most of these boards is that they are very easy to change, with little experience of electronics, as they are normally secured by screws, and 1or 2 snap fit cables that can be clearly seen in the illustration in this video. I have repaired a good few tv's utilizing a very sound basic knowledge and a little common sense. My humble suggestion is that if you look at relative videos, there are some very good troubleshooting videos that give good, practical step by step guides as to how to resolve the problem. In buying the correct board I would suggest you shop around for the cheapest board, as I imagine these boards are not cheap, but pretty easy to detach and refit. I am about to find out how much the board costs for mine, and I would not want to give you any indication as to how much your board may cost, as I have a 47in model, so the prices will almost certainly vary from one model to the next, but it really is doable. Hope this was a little help. Ps please don't forget to turn everything of whilst working on the unit, and good luck.

    Hi Jimmy,
    I have similar issues going on with my TV... I had volume and picture synchronization issue on my Sharp LC70C6500U..
    After the complete factory reset, my TV now runs for like 15 min before the screen flickering begins and after like 10 more min of flickering, screen statues (Video + Audio) and then after 10 min or so screen goes back to showing 'SHARP' sign...
    Any idea what I could do to get it fixed??
    Thank you for your help...

    Bought a Hitachi 58HK6100U Set Screen would flicker with artifacts after a minute of being on. Replaced the main board and T con but I still have flickering and the Panel Shuts off after 2 minutes or so. If I disconnect the T con board the panel stays on all day long sound works etc. When the T con is disconnected the screen is lite and black 0 signs of damage. My confusion is if the panel is not damaged then why am I still getting issues when connecting the T con back in even after replacing it with a OEM board

    My lg 50lb6100-ug is flicking on and off on the screen . I have the back cover off and Check the capacitors and they are fine . I also took a multimeter to the legend area where the power supply is and it is reading 3.5, 3.5, ...all the right readings are reading correctly on the power supply. I also unplugged the LVdv ribbon From the tcon board and it is still flickering. my question is how can you tell if it’s the LED strips or is it the power supply board because it is flickering doesn’t have to deal with something about the power inverter? From your video you’re stating it more than likely the LED strips. How does The flickering from the led strips causes the flashing as opposed to power surging on and off coming from the power supply board. One other thing I check the diodes on the power supply and one of the diode is reading open circuit in both directions… So could it be LED and the diode or that one diode could screw up the whole power supply?

      Hi Chuck, just read your insert and know my problem is exactly relative, so a number of questions if you have the time as I will pass on what you are willing to share to others, as I recon this particular problem is going to become common for LG set users as time goes on. Firstly I have seen the LC470DUE(FG)(A3) code, which I am pretty sure is my tv's exact stripping code, but I am not confident that replacing the stripping is the right way to go, and it's a £50 troubleshoot, and moreover moves nowhere to addressing the problem, I think 1 shot diode seems more likely as it would potentially deliver intermittent power. Anyways, I suppose the question is did have you managed to resolve the flickers or are you still troubleshooting? looking at your comment, I cannot imagine you have even received the stripping yet, as delivery takes years from China to just about everywhere in the world. Be most grateful if it was the stripping as that is a pretty straightforward fix once I am able to source the specific type. I anticipate a response in due course and very much appreciate it. Take care and be well.

      Mellow- D . I just bought backlight tester and tested the Five rows of LED and I tested four of the five rows and they lit up perfectly
      the fifth row I tested it in the middle and a half the lights lit up and the other End of that strip I tried to power in those lights did not light up… So I popped the cap (diffuser)
      off of all the lights individually and energized each individual light and they all powered up individually… The only thing I haven’t tested was the connector from the t com board to the led stripes(One plug which included two reds and two black wires)

    • @Godsadvoc8
      @Godsadvoc8 6 років тому

      Thanks for getting back to me Chuck, quite a rarity and much appreciated. I was just buried disassembling my set also, having returned from looking to buy a car to replace the 1 that packed up 2 weeks ago, and what occurs to me as I type is that, maybe it is the node, (or pin) that joins the left and right that may be the problem, as if each bulb works independently. Assuming that may be the problem, if you interchange the strips, the same strip should fail no matter where you place it, which suggests the simplest of fixes, and if it was hub wiring I would think the unit would fail indiscriminately or completely, and the t-com board reading is as it should be from what you intimate. You're savvy so i'm sure you can see what i'm suggesting as a simple process eliminator. I was trying to source specific stripping for my set, it's just about 3 years old and it is starting to look challenging already, but we'll get there with perseverance. Again your help is really appreciated buddy.

      @belly tripper or his job isn't to educated people with low IQ. Go to school then. All of us here already know what we are doing and are just verifying results with a known reputable repair service / parts supplier. Im sitting here with 10 boards in front of me going over them and fixing it. I only came here to verify that the t-con can cause the backlight flicker. It is most commonly the voltage pump for the panel itself which is located on the t-con board. if the voltage pump fails, no big deal. however if it outputs too high of a voltage it can easily fry the panel. But if you can see the picture on the panel, the panel is fine. LCD either works or doesn't unlike plasma where you can literally have 99% of the screen fail but one corner still works. however if your panel still functions and the backlight flickers after a few moments of running you can most like bet its your voltage pump drawing too much current (for some reason manufacturers believed running the T-CON voltage pump off of the LED backlight power-rail was acceptable. However anyone with 1st year electronic engineering would laugh so hard and fire them on the spot after seeing a design as such) T-CON VP should ALWAYS run on a dedicated power rail or off the mains for the main logic board as it is part of that system, Not the backlight. Now I know all I need to do is solder 3 SMD components, 2 capacitors that appear to be 10uf and a IC isl98604 which is many things built into 1 ic, but the part that draws most current is the voltage pump, the rest of it timing control (aka T-CON)
      NOTE: I suspect the design was to make sure failure occurred quickly on the televisions to promote sales of new panels. If they designed TV's properly with our current technology, you would be longgggg dead before the TV even decided to break. Even if you had the TV on 24/7 during your lifetime

    I bought my tv and it sat new in the box for several months while I was out of state for medical treatment. Once I plugged in the tv I got to enjoy it for 3 months before it broke. The screen fades in and out and the menu itself not the tv signal started to flicker until it finally flickered and faded out. Now I can barely see the menu or anything. Very upsetting. My 70" Sharp aquos LC70LE857U cost me over $4500. Sharp technical support seems to think the panel is defective and I think it's the Tcon board. But either way Sharp WILL NOT replace the tv or refund my money. They refuse to stand behind their products. Ive gone back and forth for months and today I got a call with their final offer which I declined. They want to Sell me another used refurbished tv for $400 which is also a different model a 3 series tv instead of the 7 series that I bought. So after wasting nearly $5k on a tv for 3 months of viewing Sharp wants me to reinvest in another Tv of lesser quality. Unbelievable. It's bullshit to be ripped off like this. Therefore I will be blasting them on social media and I will contact my local news stations and I will be contacting my attorney. These tv's are Junk and that's why Sharp has decided to get out of the tv business entirely and why you can no longer find a warranty company to cover any Sharp tv product

    I appreciate the attempt to help but I wish someone had some guidance that didn't involve opening up the TV. The risk is too great to permanently ruin it if we're not TV technicians, or even risk getting shocked to death. My 24 inch HD Sceptre blinks on and off showing the brand name and I'm about to just get another tv.

      Update it started working again and has been for months. I may have pushed a wrong button on the remote but I'm not sure that was the case because it turned on and off on its own but I'm just happy it's okay.

    My tv which was about $100 started flickering in and out,I just ordered a new tv from Amazon TVs aren’t that expensive for about $148 (well $164 because of tax) I bought a Toshiba HD Smart tv fire tv edition which will be delivered Tuesday. Honestly who is going to take apart their tv and do all that best to get a new tv.

      I don't buy $100 TVs. If my beautiful yet expensive 4KTV starts to crap out after years of service, its worth it for me to try to fix. it. Honestly, who buys a $100 TV?

    • @screener545
      @screener545 4 роки тому

      Yeah, but some of us like our picture to not be horrendous. Some people like Bose and Beats, and people who have higher standards don't buy junk like that.
      Best idea is to just buy a TV that is an easy fix and you're good to go. I got one $6000 and one $3500 dollar TV sets both free. Each cost $150 to fix. :) Happy shoppin'

    My Samsung flat screen started flickering today and now the screen is completely white. I can barely see what's on. Things still show up, but just really faded and white. Any idea what could be the problem? I was thinking maybe the bulb, but I'm really not sure.

      Any fix for the screen fading and white or did you get rid of the tv? I have a 70 inch that has faded to a white screen but can see the outlines of things but not a good picture. Was it worth fixing?

    Nowadays. They don't build screen TVs like they used to. All these built in apps like Roku, Netflix, tubi and all that crap, your better off getting a 4k PC monitor with a computer and speakers in the screen. Like an HP or get the option of audio from your PC through good quality sound speakers and your set. There's too much load on these big flimsy screen TVs. This is a better and cheaper and economical option ( good quality computer monitors. Ventilation on these computer monitors is way better and they're more robust. A $ 2500 big screen TV if your lucky Nowadays only last 2 years or 4 years max before burn in and flickering occurs. Also if you live in dry environments or a place that has poor furnace maintenance and filters aren't cleaned or the exchangers haven't been cleaned properly ash particles can seep through the house ventilation system and the fine alkali ash products can go into the circuitry of big screen tvs and arc especially if this dust is electrostatic. It can wreak havoc on the caps and cause tracking and surge the main panel causing irreparable damage. Unlike rear projection TVs that can handle dust build up for years of use. Screen tvs need clean and less humid environments and anti static for dry conditions. Also maybe relocating or use an Oreck air purifier will eliminate much of the harmful dust particles.

    This is a module swopper's guide. Not a repair guide. The main board is repairable, as is everything in life. The question is just cost.

    If it's not the main board it must be the t-com board....or maybe the power supply board....or maybe the panel....or maybe the led strips?
    Really? 😐
    Only part left is plastic bezel!

      Too much contradiction here. It may be a T-CON but im not sure how the screen can be black, but flicker, and be half light half dark on the LCD if its "black".

      LCD or PLASMA? Sounds like T-CON if it is LCD and you can still see the backlight turn on in a dark room or could be a massive amount of things if a plasma

Any advice?
