    This worked on my 2008 5.4 F150, I used the 780K6 belt, it’s a tight fit and you do need to loosen the alternator to get it on but works perfectly! Thanks for the video!

    I took off driver side lower idler pulley listen alternator only then I could install the belt. And it works great. Thank you for the help!

    Did this tonight on a 04 expedition 5.4 and the only way to get the belt on is by loosening the alternator and sliding the belt over the alternator pulley last and tightening it up, when you tighten the alternator it puts tension on the belt and works great.

    MANY THANKS FOR THE GREAT TIP! FWIW to others, a belt that worked to bypass the A/C on my 2001 Ford E350 SuperDuty 5.4 Triton (w/o wasting time & $ on buying a pulley or different tensioner) is the Gates K080816 1-3/32" wide x 82-1/8" long (28mm x 2086mm)...it only takes 5 minutes to grind down the hump on the aluminum cam chain cover with a Dremel. (behind the tensioner base near the stationary idler pulley).BTW: the 81-1/8" (2061mm) Gates K080806 is too short for my 5.4. Anyway there's a pdf list online of all the 28mm wide Gates 9 rib belts with lengths & parts #'s if folks need to cross-reference different lengths.

    Thanks for the video... the belt in the video didn’t fit my 04 Lincoln Navigator. It just wasn’t long enough-too short by a few inches. I tried the 785KA duralast belt from Autozone and it fit like a glove. I ran it and it does squeak from time to time but it works...at least until my compressor gets in!!!

    Well.. Close but not quite... The expedition must have a slight variance... The belt is about a 1/2 in to short.. I can't get it to stretch enough to make it.. Im going to try the next 2 sizes up and see how it goes.. Unless there is a something else i need to loosen or do..

    Guy if you don’t want to waste your time with a pry bar, loosing your alternator and broke anything like happened to me better go to Auto Zone buy the ACDelco pulley #38009 and the belt Duralast 840K6 replace the original pulley on top of the tensioner keep the older one to later when fix your A/C then you will thanks me all your life you will only spend around 58$ both parts
    Good luck

  • @blocklabelfilms4867
    @blocklabelfilms4867 2 роки тому

    This absolutely works. Anyone that says it doesn’t, didn’t loosen up the alternator. There is no tensioner with this set up so that is the only way to do it. It definitely looks like it’s an inch short, but it’s not. Take the top two bolts off the alternator mount. Loosen the bottom two bolts 3/4 of the way, tilt the alternator forward, slide the belt on, and pry the alternator back into place. Be careful, you will crack your fan shroud if you pry too hard.
    Works like a charm: no squeaks, silent as can be

      I'm noticing it's not working for some people but for others a 785 works . With that being said if the belt is tight that I show try loosening the alternator bolts and putting it on or how I did it was manhandle it on there and I bump the engine over to get it into the grooves .

      Mike McFadden: Watch the video on this subject posted by Kevin Thomas. The 2001 has a smooth factory idler pulley- when I tried to use an 81" belt (correct length for the existing pulleys on my 2001 F150 Supercrew with 5.4) when I used the 81" belt and wrapped it on top of the smooth pulley it did not fit correctly due to the housing behind the factory idler pulley. I watched the video by Kevin Thomas on here. I used the exact replacement idler pulley and belt he said to use and it worked perfectly. That idler pulley is very easy to switch out. One bolt to take out. I think it was a 12mm. All together it took me 10 min. to change the pulley and belt. They work on my 2001 5.4. Watch Kevin Thomas's video. All the videos are good but there are slight differences in vehicles each year. I know what worked in my 2001 5.4 and I tried 3 different belts and this is what worked. I do have a squeak in my belt, but it goes away after a min. of running. I might try some belt dressing and hope it will mesh out. One thing to remember on this fix- the new belt is 6 groove as well as the new idler pulley. The factory pulleys are 8 groove. I tried different grooves and what worked best was putting the new belt 1 groove back on the factory pulleys. Hope this helps you out.

      780k is the wrong number use the 785k belt its a 1/2 inch longer...use a flat blade screw driver to pry it over the top of alternator.
      I got mine on 95% (grooves didn't line up correctly) of the way and to make sure I didn't mess the belt up I just bump the key over really quickly then back so it does not start and it lined it right up. Belt will rotate clockwise.
