Yes, yes, YES! Copper would be a beautiful accent! It would all tie together, the black & natural wood & copper would match. HUGS~Donna

Friend that had her own custom drapery business, built a huge table it was about 110" x 110" easily fit fabric for king quilt. She and I are roughly same height at 5'6" and she custom built it so no bending. It was upholstered for ironing and half for cutting and under was all kinds of storage. It was a pleasure and joy to work on.

When I was in my 20s I worked for my friends mother's custom drapery shop. Her husband made a padded top with precise lines marked across the white canvas. I hand stitched the top pleated and hand sewed hems. She had irons and bright lights hanging from a metal frame above the tables for pressing wrinkles. She was a great lady. Jeanne Curtis.❤

Great looking table, years ago my husband built me a similar table,I used to do a lot of fabric cutting and sewing and like you, I needed something bigger and taller ,then at one point we had a huge kitchen area so we used it as an island and were able to have 8 counter height barstools for our family of 8. We moved since then and kids are all out of the house except one so it sits in my craft studio,it’s probably the hardest working piece of furniture I own,the top is removable which makes it easier to move from place to place, definitely was a labor of love. Hope you enjoy yours as much as I’ve enjoyed mine! I love your videos

Brilliant! Bench height is very important, in my kitchen I put my bench height at 95cm, for the same reason, I did not want to be bending over either, I am 5'9", so the 1950s bench height does not suit me. Great job on the steps, though I think a deck would rock with a verandah over it...but I understand the budget restraints.

You should not need to clear coat a proper stain. I think because this peeled, what you had was a paint, not a stain, and that is why it peeled and didn't soak in. A true stain can be applied with a brush, and then you wipe it back, so that you are left with stained wood, that is protected. You might want to try something different. Shou sugi ban is a Japanese art that involves burning cedar planks, polishing them with wire brushes and sandpaper and sealing them with natural oils. This technique creates a rustic look that also makes the wood more weather and fire resistant. You just char the wood, then sand back the charred wood. I had a friend that had a basic picknick table that he in his spare time, to relax was doing the entire table, it was the first time I had seen or heard of it, and the wood was beautiful. This technique can be used on other kinds of wood, and is beautiful. Just an idea, that you could use with what you have, and get that rustic wood, while improving, hardening and preserving the wood.
