𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗶𝗻𝘀
The history of Bolsena is lost in the mists of time. Already in prehistoric times, along the coast, there was a village of stilts, the remains of which have been found in the waters of the lake. In the late Villanovan period, however, a series of small villages developed. These were strictly subordinate to nearby Velzna (Volsinii), probably today's Orvieto.
Later, however, the fortunes were reversed. After the Roman conquest of Velzna (III century BC), the ancient Umbrian center was almost abandoned. This, then, was mysteriously replaced by what would gradually become the flourishing "new" Volsinii (Volsinii Novi), situated in a slightly elevated position with respect to the current town.
After the Lombard rule, Bolsena ended up falling under the orbit of nearby Orvieto. Subsequently, however, with the development of traffic on the Via Francigena, the city experienced a certain rebirth, becoming the subject of fierce contention between the Monaldeschi della Cervara family and the Church, and then (second half of the 15th century), to the patrimony of San Pietro.

Always happy to read back from you EZ T and thank you as always. Few people indeed that day in Bolsena; quite a pleasant day I still remember it very very well. A very nice place indeed and the lake itself is just something... Oh Bassano in Teverina... If I remember correctly I was there during the Christmas holidays and it was truly a memorable day. One of the nicest place I've ever seen actually, and yet so little known.

Dear Pedro, thank you so much! Indeed, I filmed the drone quite early and much earlier than the walk) Some advection fog there was, but glad you liked it. Now I'm very much into also 360° photographs, so they can show exactly the town before watching the town and understanding the route. Bolsena is indeed a stunning stunning town. Was impressed. Riccardo, as always I am blown away by these picturesque small towns in Italy. I am so glad that you continue to feature these beautiful gems on your channel for us to appreciate them. I must say that the creative designs of the mailboxes at 25:08, 27:13 and 34:26 really grabbed my attention. I enjoyed the visit to the Castle, the tour of St. Christina Church and the Grotto. The walk throughout was remarkable. Loved every minute of it.

И ты такой вежливый, как всегда, здороваешься с местными жителями) молодец! В старом городе много зелени у домов, на домах. Видео, что местные заботятся о своём городе. Мало туристов, можно спокойно рассматривать то, что тебе интересно. Такие интересные почтовые ящики у дверей. Дома из цветного камня смотрятся просто невероятно! Чудесная панорама на озеро. Ты общался с пилигриммом со Святого пути) что интересного он рассказал? Сколько времени он идёт пешком?

И в нем две души, старый верхний город и современный город внизу с современными площадями и магазинами. И озеро рядом. Что можно желать большего? ооо.... паломник ехал из Испании, мы много говорили о наших путешествиях и шутили, что мое хобби - каждые выходные, а его путешествие продолжается. Dear Geraldine, very happy to see you again! He was yes, we talked just a little (turned camera off) about our different "journeys". A very kind and funny guy. I actually always had that "spirit" I can say... In the past I did some of them, one of the most intense was in Israel hiking all kitted... it was 2017, before the channel even existed. Very emotional memories. Would like to make a new proper one though... will see if I ever will manage one day

Some scary moments, some absolutely wonderful scenery and people I met... One of the best trip I've ever done: I was in a quite sad situation that year for personal reasons and it was one of those "get away to forget" situations I guess)
