I love your pumpkins. I made pumpkins years ago, but didn't do them on the bias, I will definitely give that a try. I have a couple of tips for you: 1) if you use quilt thread for the hand gathering part, you will only need to do 1 row 2) if you make your gathering stitches longer, the hole will gather up tighter, I know that doesn't sound right, but it works. Love the fabric you used for your pumpkin. Its only July, but it's never to early to make fall stuff, so I will go through my fabric stash, and make a pumpkin (or several). Thank You for sharing your Time, and Talent with all of us. I'm glad I found you 🎃.
Hi I noticed that u got a lot of negative comments about how complicated the pumpkins are, and I just wanted to say the fact that u responded very politely makes u a better person than half of the people I know. I personally would have told them that they didn’t have to say anything and they’re wasting everyone’s time. Anyway super cool ima try this tonight.
I just looked for tutorials on making fabric pumpkins. I thought you did a great job of showing step-by-step and spoke slowly and clearly. I was glad to learn how to measure for various sizes. I didn't think the pumpkin was complicated but might be for someone inexperienced in hand or machine sewing. I'll pass this on to a group of senior ladies I conduct stitching workshops for. Thank you!
Hello, I know this video is older but I just came across it. I have to comment on how wonderful it is and how your teaching was.! Seriously, very easy to follow along with clear explanations and I love that you explain “why” you are doing things, not just “do it” thank you I look forward to watching more of your videos!!
A nice touch to these cute pumpkins might be to take some ribbed fabric ribbon (a thin ribbon) tie it around the stem and use your scissors to curl them. Thus making the tendrils seen on pumpkins in the pumpkin patch.
I thought i knew it all and began watching just for the size of the fabric. However, I learned a thing or two, so i thank you very much. Happy crafting!
I must commend you on an excellent job and thorough explanation of your method. The tips were outstanding, especially the use of the pliers to pull the needle through - genius! I am an experienced sewer, and it is still most welcome to have such thoughtful reminders on how to do the step by step process. I especially liked your very clear explanation on how to do a gathering stitch. Fabulous !
Thank you so much for taking the time to comment Jan and for your feedback. I am really pleased you enjoyed my tips. This means a lot, especially from an experienced sewist. Thank you, Aneka x
I love this tutorial. You are so precise and thorough and even though I’m quite an advanced sewer it was so simple to follow especially if you are a beginner. I’m just going to rifle through my fabric stash to start making some pumpkins 👍🏻Thank you
This is such a great tutorial. I like how you take your time and accomadate pauses in the filming itself. I also appreciate how you used both metric and imperial measurements to be as inclusive as possible. I can't wait to try this projects.
Great tutorial easy to understand. I only sew occasionally and never thought of making a fabric pumpkin but having watched you I feel confident enough to have a go thank you.
This tutorial is perfect for beginners like me. I made mini versions for use as decorations on my Halloween tree. I added a little star shape under the stalk and some vines to mine. Thanks so much for the comprehensive guide!
Great project !! I've made several. You can also use the fabric felt itself to make little green tendrils around the stem. Looks more realistic than ribbon. Just roll the felt same as the stem is done and cut little thin strips..they sort of curl on their own.
Thank you. I love your idea of cutting on the bias as it definitely gives a much nicer smooth finish to the shape (especially for pincushions where all those tucks are annoying).
What a fab informative video. It’s fantastic even for an absolute beginner. Foolproof. I’m fairly experienced but still thoroughly enjoyed. Well done !!!
I got terribly frustrated with the pumpkins so I used one of my doll/upholstery needles which I have in 6, 8, 10 and 12 inches long to make the segments on the different sizes. The way you make the stems is awesome. I had modified a pattern so was stuck on how to do the stem.
Very good tutorial. Really helped me a lot to make some pumpkins for this fall. Thank you so much. Always loved fabric pumpkins but did not know how to make them. TFS
Thank you so much for your tutorial. Your instructions are so thorough and make it so easy to follow. I will be going to the store this afternoon to get some fabric Thanks again. What a great find on UA-cam.
Very nice! Keep making more tutorials,I like the detail so everyone experienced or someone just starting to sew or as a hobby of cute pumpkins Blessings to you.
Why not just do the gathering stitches for top and bottom at the same time? Gather one end, stuff it, then gather the top..rather than hand sewing the top part.
Hi there, of course you could do this. If I remember correctly we did this to start with and then for some reason starting hand sewing the top. I can't quite remember why we changed to hand sewing it? It may have been the greater control once the pumpkin is stuffed. But please feel free to give it a go. Sorry that I can't quite remember why I didn't do this in the tutorial. Aneka :-))
Glace Bay Girl, thank you for this comment. It seems obvious to me to sew the sides, baste the top & bottom for gathering, then begin to gather & stuff. I'd probably divide the sections into an odd number rather than halves & quarters etc.
Hi thank you for your clear instructions, verbally and visually, often steps are missed by poor camera work…..i am off to give it a go…..happy hallowe’en ❤
Great tutorial Aneka! Could you please tell me if there would be a problem with not cutting the fabric on the bias? I have fabric that would not look good if it was cut that way because it has mini pumpkins on it and it would make it look crooked. Thank you for all your great information and inspiration!
Hi Sharon, the bias will allow the fabric to have a bit of stretch making the pumpkin have a smoother, neater finish. You may find that they aren't as smooth cutting them on the straight of grain. Let me know how you get on, it sounds lovely. Aneka x
I tried to click on the link for the measurements of the small and large pumpkins but I am not able to open the link. Can you share those measurements? Thank you!

I've made lots of pumpkins as well, didn't need a pattern at all, just some fabrics, stuffing jute, leaves, and i used a piece of twig for the stems,a hot glue gun..No bias cuts etc.

I was thinking the same thing. All this for a fabric pumpkin. They don't come out the best of the best so maybe this is a more professional approach lol! Anyway this lady is obviously a sweetheart because she is handling the criticism very well. @@MadetoSew I love all the details. Your pumpkins look so much better and more professionally made than most of the pumpkins that are made from other tutorials!
So i followed this tutorial very well and my pumpkin came out beautiful however your sizing is wrong your medium it actually very small if we fallow the instructions on your website they'll come out even smaller. So i'd fix it and say the 7x14 is the small instead.
Thanks for sharing. Of course it depends on the size you personally want your pumpkin to be. :-)) I have a medium pumpkin here (the fabric was quilted and I use it as a pin cushion, so stuffed very firmly), so it may be smaller than the original design, it measure 5" across. Glad you have been able to play with the pattern sizing to make what you want! :-)) Aneka
Thios is over complicating a simple thing. Cut out a rectangle 7"x14". so that took 6 mins to explain. Or cut an oblong but the width must be i/2 the length...like oblongs generally are?
As I was watching this I thought this is really a little to much for a pumpkin!! I have made many fabric pumpkins and it has never been this complicated and confusing! And mine are much more beautiful!! I think I will just stick to my design!!!
