      Hi Paul, I bought one but I haven't actual fitted it yet so not 100% sure it will fit. It should fine. "BQLZR 0.5" Diameter 240V Black 8 Circuits 250RPM Each 2A Capsule Slip Rings 4mm Bore Size Capsule Slip Ring" from Amazon (www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01CJJNJSE/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1). The crucial bit is the 1/2 in size anyway.

    My motor doesn’t go that fast , do you need to change the speed in the sketch?

    • @kylecampbellweb
      @kylecampbellweb  3 роки тому

      Hi Christian, yes there are speed settings to adjust. Depends on your sketch, I am using EZB software, I can send a copy of the software file if you want?

    add some depth to that lip/protrusion/ridge on the horseshoe that goes into the leg at the top. People WILL dislodge it. It is the first thing they'll rest their arms on when posing with R2. I tried with magnets at first and they got knocked off over and over again. Ended up having to use wood dowel pegs so they couldn't move vertically.

      Hi Mark, thanks for the tip. I can imagine kids climbing all over r2 as well!

      @@kylecampbellweb Depends on the crowd, of course. :) . A "good" convention will have parents of a "like mind" and realize their kids climbing all over R2 is bad. Go to a bowling alley birthday party as a favor for a friend's friend, on the other hand........

    Thank you for showing just how difficult building your own Astromech really is.

    I'm so envious I'm turning green! Impressive!I've been sanding and painting while you've gotten yours mostly together. And I'm envious of your print quality! Wow.I just test fitted my lazy susan to the bottom ring and it's too tight to move. I see you were having catching issues too.What bolts do you have there to attach the dome to the ring? M4 or M3? 60mm? And what motor?Are you planning to run wiring up through the center hole slip ring or are you going to have everything in the dome on a separate battery like you mentioned before?

    • @kylecampbellweb
      @kylecampbellweb  5 років тому

      Hi Chris, have a look at my last April blog as its got some close up pictures of the dome/ring myrobotnigel.blogspot.com/2018/04/r2d2-continued.html
      I have now got the lasy susan itself to run really smoothly and fast with the motor. The ring I bought was not pre-oiled and when I used some silicon spray it really spun around.
      I bolted the top plastic inner ring-circle down to the main top ring with m4 bolts and some self taps. Its really hard to explain, I will go and take some pictures and put them on the blog later today. Also pictures of the motor as I can remember the model. Simplest!
      Now I have sort of got the power board sorted out, I think I will use two EZB controllers [I have two as I bought them cheap in sales a year or so ago]. One in the dome with the camera and what ever else, the other in the main body. I will possibly attach the body controller to the loudspeaker assembly, as it may jam the door opening if its on the swing door.
      I will then just run power up through the slip ring into the dome.
      Not sure if I am that far head, sanding and painting its something I am putting off ever into the future...

      Hi Kyle:I tend to forget the blog and forums. I found the Padawan last night BTW. I like your idea of voice address.Good tip on the silicon spray. I've made a note of it.M4: okay, that's what I needed to know. When I measured with my calipers the holes came to 3.53 and 3. 29 so I wasn't sure.Hard to explain: I noted that with the directions. Some things can be hard to explain or seem self explanatory. Like all the little pockets on ring 1. I know what some are, but not others. Oh well, I'll figure them out eventually. :)Sanding and painting: I'm at a stand still until I got those bolts sorted out, and the workbench was occupied anyway. Now that I know what to get I'll order some. :)Thanks for the tips!

      @@chrishechtl8330 Chris. I have more or less standardized on 4-mm bolts and drill anything out to fit. Anything that fits will normally work anyway.
      The Dome motor is supplied currently by Technobotsonline.com and is part number 919D501 RE540/1 metal geared motor 50:1 ratio [Technobot part number 1450-053] I assume other do similar, maybe ebay also. £17 approx UK money. Check my blog later for more pictures.

    Hi Kyle happy new year again.so I am ready to put mine together but haven't figured it out were that 3 mm by 12 mm metal peg goes ,the bolts for the shoulders are the 8mm by 110mm?any help would be much appreciated thanks in advance.

    • @kylecampbellweb
      @kylecampbellweb  5 років тому

      Hi Sky, I used M8 100mm bolts which are fine. [110mm long inc allen head]. That 3mm by 12mm peg - everyone seems to ask that and I am not sure. Its part of the hinge door mechanism I think, but I havent completed all that bit myself. I remember buying them myself.

    This is awesome, im new on 3d printing and no experience at all but this project seem fun, Is your plan to radiocontrol it or do you plan to do some sort of programing? arduino or something similar?

      Hi Ulf, my reply/comments got lost earlier so you may get two replies to this!
      I will control it always using a handset, it wont be autonomous. EZB controller to make it all work. As I mentioned to sky in another comment, it will talk and have speech recognition and have a camera with face recognition. Plus A! so its semi smart [ish]

    Great video! I noticed the tire was rubbing on the foot and I'm having the same problem. Have you solved this? How?

    • @kylecampbellweb
      @kylecampbellweb  5 років тому +1

      Hi Nikolas, I have used large washers to add some space between the tyre and the frame and it seems OK. I am possibly going to reprint parts of the wheels at some point, using the different drive mechanism that Mike Baddeley has designed.

    man dome is way to slow but looking good other wise. Keep it up

    • @kylecampbellweb
      @kylecampbellweb  5 років тому

      Yes, the dome motor can go really fast but I have slowed it right down for testing. Once I can sort out the Dome seating to the ring correctly, will speed it all up.

      "What engine do you use for the Dome?". Hi Roberto, the dome motor I used is the: 919D501 RE 540/1 Metal Geared Motor 50:1
