My thought on 10:30 is that while the Honda did mess up going into that corner, the BMW was well aware of that and was capitalizing on that to make the pass. It's up to the BMW to make the pass safely, and they easily have it. The Honda realized they messed up and gave the BMW plenty of room, and the BMW just ignored the Honda and slammed down into the apex like they weren't there. IMHO this is 100% on the BMW. Sometimes you just miss your line, and that's what we're always hoping for other people to do when we're chasing, so we can make a pass, but it's still on us to make that pass safely.
I agree completely, this was exactly what I thought when I saw it. The BMW was not clear ahead and so was not entitle to the racing line, and as Jimmy himself said "it's pointed right at the apex"
I kid you not, I was driving the Audi R8 that the McLaren drives by at the chicane before he send the Porsche to space. I have everyone’s POV saved so I’ll have to try and upload the clips and put the link here for everyone to see.
When I first started sim racing on PC, I joined a GT3 league on PC2. They were really big on giving positions back if you gained it due to contact or forcing someone off. Basically, if it wasn't a clean pass, you were expected to give it back. That led to some of the best racing I've ever participated in. Drivers used more strategy. They picked their battles carefully, and oddly enough, since most moves were clean and smart, people seemed to not get as butthurt about being overtaken. I'd love to see sims promote that sort of gentleman's agreement more.
4:30 you can only try to block someone if they are clearly behind you. in this case, he's already beside you and you are literally swerving into him so I'd say you can't push the person off the track. If not, then the person behind can try to push the other way and the car in front will spin and crash.
if i'm honest, i love your racing content and IRL stuff. However, these judging the sim crashes has to be my favourite videos of yours Jimmy, i don't know why but they never fail to make me laugh while also being educational. Not only to be a better racer but to know who to avoid and when to back out.
We all knew Jimmy would make a great F1 commentator and now its actually happening! Great stuff. Bit like this video in general. Im glad Jimmy admitted to not being especially patient as an LMP driver, I still feel guilty tuning in to watch a race and him almost immediately tangling with a Pork 911 thru the esses at, Im going to say Road America? Perhaps he could do a video entitled "Judging My Sim Racing Crashes"...
2nd incident: actually, in almost every simracing community, reactive moves are NOT allowed. yes you can squeeze him, but only after he is besides you. and if he just doesnt react to your squeeze, the contact is on you. It is like that in LFM and every AC racing community I was in, and I am pretty sure it also not allowed in iracing and british gt irl. Reactive moves/blocking is concidered dangerous driving and can lead to multiple day bans in LFM and license suspension irl
For the crash at 7:45, that would definitely be on the 7 and your assessment is correct, Jimmy. It appears the 7 was attempting to move to the bottom to try and overtake the car in front of it (track appears to be Lanier or South Boston, so a very small oval), but didn't appear to consider the cars on the inside coming off the corner.
13:48 Honestly, I get why the Mclaren lost his shit, the Porsche was driving like it full contact racing. I think that's a case of "chat shit get banged" or in this case "drive like a prick , get banged"
13:14 - 15:49 I think the McLaren probably hit the incident limit and got a drive-through from all those previous contacts and decided that; because the battle ruined his race, he'd ruin the Porsche's race. Funny to watch but really shouldn't be happening.
You’re literally my favourite youtuber, bro ! Making the best content and it’s all feeling so natural ahahhahah I’ve watched almost every video on this channel 💯🍿🔥 Keep it up and the most important thing is to have fun doing it of course!!! 🏎💨
5:33 Looking at that situation while netcode definatly hade an effect there, it still looks like from the turning angle that the car on the right is aiming for the racing line which clearly isent possable in that situation. Based on that angle i would say the right car is a little at fault but not as mutch to cause a penalty and netcode definatly played a part there aswell.
8:17 the 7 car definitely came down into the 5's racing line and it's not very realistic to expect the 5 to be able to react since street stocks can get pretty tight in the corner
5:15 close, but it’s actually Daytona. Specifically, it’s the variant that NASCAR used the past couple years due to using the road course sort of last minute (COVID reasons). It’s the normal 24hr track but a chicane was added after turn 4 like what you could see in the clip.
Doing anything while being ill is impossible for me especially something like this where you have to actually use your gray stuff, you are an absolute legend jimmer
The thing about oval racing, especially on iRacing is that it’s also on you to avoid idiots, but I don’t think the 5 had time to check up so it’d be the 7 who is more at fault. That being said it wouldn’t be a penalty on either car irl.
@@julianhaarstad2535 No, that is the line to track out to the wall. Imagine a hairpin on a regular track. Out as far as you can for best turn in, hit the apex, then drive out of the corner using as much track as possible for best drive off. Same principle is used at short ovals. You can see the 4 doing that a little bit. Oval racing is all about momentum.
The SS race with the 7 car was a racing incident, look at the yaw in the 7 car he got loose on exit and was just chasing it... the 7 ran out of talent and owes an apology but it wasn't a decision to move down IMO
As an oval racing enjoy at 8:00 the 7 car was setting himself up for a pass in 1 and 2 you can change lanes in the corner because contact is perfectly fine the 7 turned way left and was coming down and the 5 came up it’s they 7’s fault but it would be considered a racing incident that could have been avoided
7:37 Most oval racers would blame the 7 for taking a shit line, getting a poor exit, and then clearing themselves on the 5. It's the same deal as with the Porsche at the start of the clip, but unlike that incident, the 5 couldn't be reasonably expected to react to the 7.
I’ve already been listening to Fast and Loose and had no idea you did the practice sessions! Why don’t they include those on the podcast too? I’ll be tuning in for COTA next week
8:04 - 7 is at fault, btw you can actually be a little less predictable on oval racing than F1 or that sort of thing, more room to manuever on the track unless the guy next to you sticks you to the bottom mid corner, then you have to change your angle of attack for the exit.. and.. yadda yadda yadda tl;dr you can be a little less predictable without error on ovals than F1 and stuff
For the oval clip my opinion is that it is on the 7 but at the same time we have to remember that these are rookies who tend to be deathly afraid of the wall, so leaving extra room to the guy up top is just a generally better practice all around for rookies. Even with that though the 7 is very far down that track but it’s something that comes with experience
The intro was funny. Our American Cough Syrup is essentially grape flavored Heroin. Drink it for 2 days and ya throat no longer hurts and you dont even remember being sick
For the oval race, at 7:45, pretty sure they got loose on corner exit and started to lose the rear-end. No way they could have maintained their line, but also hard for the car following to notice the car they are passing got so loose and is coming down.
7:46 It looks like the Number 7 is getting loose coming off the exit of turn 4 right when Number 5 comes and hits him. I still think it's 7's fault, because he should be on top of the car and aware that it's about to get loose on corner exit. But if I were to guess, the Number 7 was watching either the 4 or the 5 and not paying attention, leading them to be slow to react to their car veering left, right as the Number 5 enters the picture.
09:37 I think this one was a Chad move on a virgin connection , shame because like you say without the lag I think it might have just been an absolutely immense move

at 8:20 oval race. Looks like the 7 got loose off the turn and wasn't able to catch it in time. you can see the front tire is fully turned to the right to try an keep it from happening. I would say it's just a racing incident

You're right on the money, but as the BMW was the one to suffer it's likely there wouldn't be much of a penalty applied.

Just a crazy thought. Should I use my brakes going into corners?
no
idk man many people still do it but i think its unnecessary xd
